I imported some audio that i recorded on my computer into SS2.2. I decided that i want that material on VD, so I went to the Create Audio CD option. I selected the tracks I wanted to burn to the CD and clicked the arrow to put them on the CD. when all the tracks were on there, I clicked the red record button. I then click "Start Writing". It then tells me "Unable to transfer the track or tracks." What am I doing wrong?

THat is a REALLY great point. I have been thinking that as well. However, the prices for flash media of sizes needed to hold large amounts of data is almost as exspensive as Hi-MD players. Until Flash Media can hold 10GB and you can buy it for $10, i dont see a solid state media player market anytime soon.

You know, I never really thought of that before. That would be a real slick idea. I checked out Alpine's IPod adaptor and I liked that. Might not be a bad idea for Sony to go that route.

where can i find a version of 2.0 to download and install? My 2.1 never works. i want to go back.

The same thing happened to me. I finally got fed up and called Sony's customer support. THey told me that they are getting a LOT of calls on that EXACT same problem and as of right now, they are unsure how to fix it. THey told me that they THINK it is a problem with the version you have to download. The woman I talked to told me that there will be a CD version available in a few weeks and that mght solve the problem.

I talked with a Tech Support person earlier today, she told me that SonicStage 2.1 will be available on CD within a few weeks
-
I am on the phone with Tech Support as we speak. As of right now, they have no idea what the problem is. Edit: Ok, she talked to some of the people around her and they said they have been getting a lot of phone calls with this issue. They are not sure what the problem is. However, they did think it might be a problem with having to download it off the web. So, she said in a week or 2 they will be offering 2.1 on CD and they think that might solve the problem. So, it looks like all of us who are having problems are going to have to wait a few weeks.

Part of this that really sucks is that I took a lot of stuff that I had in MP3 and encoded it to the OMG format then deleted the MP3. I figured I wouldnt need them again. So, if i dont get this fixed I will never be able to recover those files
-
I wrote Sony with my problem and explained that it will not install OpenMG. This was their ever "helpful" responce...... That's it! That is all! That is the WORST tech support I have ever seen.
-
I did all that and I am running Windows XP Home
-
I go to install OpenMG manually and it tells me "1607: Unable to install InstalShield Scripting RunTime"
-
I'll try that when I get home tonight. THe fact that I have to go through all those steps just to make a simple upgrade, is absolutely rediculous. I am not reinstalling WOndos here! It;s just going from SS2.0 to SS2.1. How dumb.
-
I just submited a question to Sony Connect about the problem. This is what i sent....
-
Ok, here is the deal. It looks like the installer is installing everything EXCEPT "OpenMG Secure Module 4.0". After the instaler finishes, it reboots my computer. I try to start SS2.1 and it says OpenMG is not installed. So, I run the installer again and it just skips over the OpenMG instalation. That seems to be the crux of the problem.
-
I followed it to a T. Plus: If Sony could figureout how to write a proper upgrade program, we would have to go through 20 steps just to instal a .1 upgrade. 90% of all users would give up and return the product. THat is really bad business. I did follow everything if said, but I also shouldnt have to.
-
This is absolutely freaking rediculous! I give up., Seriously. I give up. I was planning on buying one of the Hi-MD players, but until they can get this thing fixed and make a reliable installer, they are NOT getting my business. The I-Pod is looking very nice right now. F-YOU SONY!
-
That IS what i did!
-
I tried what you suggested. now it says that it cant find the OpenMG so it wont open SS2.1 Dang it Sony! Whan will you get your act together? To make a SIMPLE upgrade, you require users to jump through all sorts of hoops and do things that most simple users cant do. And you expect a format to take off when it requires this much work? NEVER!
-
FYI: I just instaled SS2.1, it works well except for one major problem.... it cant rip to ATRAC3 or ATRAC3plus. The only option I can pic is PCM. I NEVER had a problem with this with SS2.0. It wil PLAY ATRAC3plus files, it just wont rip them.
-
I have a lot of non-music CDs (basically comedy CDs). I ripped them all at ATRAC3plus 64K and you really cant tell the differance. For pure or most voice stuff, 64K is plenty good. Save your HD space for music. No need to encode higher than 64K.
-
That is EXACTLY my point. The mass public wil have no use for Hi-MD unless there are other places to use the dics than just the little player.
-
FOr Hi-MD to take off, they need to do that right now! If yu are going to compete with MP3 players and IPod, you have to take out a full scale assult on the market. People arent going to buy a $250 Hi-MD player/recorder if that is the only thing they can listen to it on. I want to get the 800, but due to no car decks (what I would mainly use Hi-MD for) or no home stereo decks with Hi-MD, i see no point in getting the 800 if I can only listen to my discs on there and I would need an adaptor elsewhere.
-
I wish Sony would just figure out how to market this stuff. I have seen NO advertising at ALL for Hi-MD or the MD brand. How does Sony expect to go mainstream with Hi-MD if they dont market? What is the point of even OFFERING it here in the US if they dont market? I think Hi-MD could lift off VERY fast if they would just market. THe US is in the "digital movement". Everything has to be digital. WHy not market Hi-MD has the digital alternative to audio cassettes? Sony must learn, to make money in the US, you have to market. SO do that! THis Hi-MD format has sooooo much potential, they just need to realize it.
-
I think there is one thing that makes Hi-MD so versatile and why (if marketed correctly) it should become the primary storage medium of choice. That thing is Hi-MDs ability to be rewritten over, reformatted, completely erased, and any file can be accessed at anytime. These can all be done easily. A lot of these attributes are things that CDs (which most think is the ultimate format) cant do. Yes you can randomly access CD files, but you need a computer burner to rewrite, reformat, or erase. With Hi-MD, you need a device as cheep at $150, not a whole computer worth over $1000.

Sony will never figure it out. They are too worried about proprietary applications. If Sony would think outside of just the Sony universe, Hi-MD would take off like gang busters. But, Sony doesn’t think that way. Sony thinks only about Sony. Hence why Hi-MD only supports SONY’S music format. I have said it a thousand times. Hi-MD should replace the audio cassette, but it never will becase Sony deosnt have that forsight. As for me, in the next few years, Hi-MD will completely replace all my audio tapes and audio tape applications.
