I don't own nh800,but I can confirm that it doesn't have a backlight.

Similar debate is raging at the home digital receiver forums. Some people are finding new sony digital amps(S-Master) much better than analogue ones. Others on the other hand have had all sort of problems with them, ranging from weird sound to low output levels. What I gathered is that it has lot to do with speakers. Well, I'm not sure if there is any analogy with Hi-MD dig. amp(i may be talking out of my ass ) but apparently these dig. amps are much more choosy  when it comes to speakers/headphones. Or,is there design/manufacturing glitch in Sony ones? Dunno Cheers
-
Yeah, that may as well be the case. Unfort. I don't have E3's on me anymore to give it a better try. As for the high-range sound, I also find it to sound different (tested PCM mode on line-out),but there's no word in my freakin english to describe the difference :wacky:. It's just different and I can't say if it's better or worse. Bottom line, I am very happy with NH1 sound.
-
Yep, I was wondering that too. Could it also be, that some headphones don't work that well with MZNH1 digital amp? I think that's very possible. My MZNH1 works quite well with a pair of Sony 71EX. Sound quality is much better than in any of NetMD players I owned. Cheers

I think the reasoning behind this decision was, that you don't have to charge unit whilst making recordings anymore, because its USB powered. It also saves few bucks per unit made. Generally, if you look at the whole new Hi-MD lineup, you ll see traces of cost-cutting everywhere. Cheaper battery on MZNH900,cheaper plastics on 600-800 units. Heck, they even hired cheaper designer to design the new lineup .
-
:wacky: Well i own the unit,I guarantee you that it hasn't got USB port on its cradle. It was scraped by Sony @ the very late stage in developement. Maybe you have seen pictures of early prototypes that had usb on cradle. Cheers Edit. Yeah, this is prototype picture.
-
No! You are wrong aeriyn. It's quite the opposite. NH1 does not have usb port on its charge stand, it's on the unit. You must remove MZNH1 from charge stand to connect it to PC. I have japanese domestic model, and this also applies to the international model. Cheers

Yeah, it ain't bright as other Sony's backlit remotes, but it is quite sufficient for all lgt. conditions. I don't know what's the all fuss about this anyway?. Maybe it would look flashier  with more backlit.?

I own MZNH1 and have also seen/tried most of the other Hi-MD units. I can wholeheartedly recommend you MZNH1 over other units, providing that the price is of no concern to you. I would absolutely stay away from anyhing less than MZNH900. Few more facts: Both MZNH1 and MZNH900 have hi-def digital amp, other models don't. A lot has been said about hi-def Sony digital amp. I won't go into that (not an audiophile) but I feel that it does give more dynamics and precision to the output. Compared to MZNH1, my old MZN910 sounds bit "dry". MZNH1 LiIon battery is far superior to gumstick MW?10 supplied with MZNH900. I had this type of battery in my old MZN710 and had to recharge it every day on quite average daily usage (3-4h). I recharge my MZNH1 every 3 days for roughly the same usage. On MZNH900 you can attach spare AA battery pack that would give you more combined hours than MZNH1. MZNH1 can be only charged from its cradle. So if you travel you'd need to take it with you :wacky: If you do lot of field recording (away from power points) MZNH900 may be better choice, because you can use standard AA batteries. MZNH1 has much better finish and built quality(all magnesium). MZNH1 on-unit single line display won't show you artist/track/group name. Many of the options are only accessible through its remote, so its a must. If you don't like using remote,MZNH1 may not be for you. But if you do,you d rewarded with one of better remotes Sony has ever released. Hope this helps a bit. Cheers

Amen to that.

HiMD.. models are out.. can owners verify features?
DrZhivago replied to larry_llama's topic in Minidisc
Yup. No VU meters on MZNH900 remote. Few interesting questions! Does MZNH900 display VU meters on main unit-display? Would we be able to display them on MZH1 remote if we attached it to the other Hi-MD players, like MZNH700,800,900? P.S. still no pictures will try again today. -

Nah MZNH1 on-unit display won't show much at all  . It's the remote that shows it. Yes remote is backlight. For other HI-MD models, don't really know. I'll try to take a photo of VU meter tonite. Cheers -

Yes.MZNH1 does have backlit level meter. It looks really good. -
I own MZNH1, so here are few facts. MZNH1 doesn't have USB connector on it's cradle. It has decent battery life. Capacity wouldn't be a match to combined AA+NHWM10 in MZNH900. Bear in mind that NHWM10 is a crappy battery on its own. I would rather get spare NHWM14 if you go with MZNH900. I haven't tried MZNH900 yet,but judging from the pictures, looks like chunky piece of hardware, to me. It's much heavier than MZNH1. Couple that with spare battery pack and it becomes really noticeable weight in your pocket(of course unless you carry it in your bag or pouch). MZNH1 on the other hand, fits into shirt pocket and you don't even notice it. I guess, for majority of people it will come down to better remote/better on-unit display. MZNH1 remote is far superior to MNZH900's one (once you get used to it). If you don't use(not used to) remote, MZNH1 may not be for you, because single line display on it, is very small, and it doesn't display song name/artist information. However it fits very nice into overall design of the unit. MZNH1 remote is also fun to use cuz it displays different animations, and I like when it displays that digital  peak meter when you record. Edit: For european folks. MZNH900 sold in europe has only 3mW headphone output.MZNH1 has 5mW regardless of the region.

There was not any doubt in my mind,of how talented fella' you are. Seriously, I also feel let down by Sony somehow. It is mostly due to stupid software restrictions. I used to own quite few MD gear in da past, and think that all in all, Hi-Md is not that bad format. Sound quality could be better for the price tag of MZNH1 but I am not an audiophile like you are(15 % deaf in both ears, from listening walkman and going to loud rave parties over the years),and majority of us aren't also. Let's face it. None of portable gear won't give you 100 % sound quality of high-end studio/home gear. I still feel that Hi-MD is a little step forward. Could have been bigger but eh. The other day I managed to cram 7 full albums of Hi-SP music on 1Gb disc, so soon there will be much less clutter on my desk. I also use it for file transfer between work and home, which I wasn't able to do before. It is slow, but it works. For me (non-audiophile) it has its advantages over previous MD models. Cheers PS. Would you please stop playing with my Karma

Where did you get that thing in one file? Cheers
-
That's it. :wacky: Get yourself an iPod and install iTunes. Jokes aside. I don't have clue mate? I assume that you have removed OpenMG first from Add/Remove panel, and deleted both sony folders from Registry. If that was the case,I don't know. What OS you are on?
-
  Thanks for avtar mate. There go my karma points.
-
Skyther, you haven't changed it yet? Ok, I ll give you few days.
-
Yeah,I had the same problem. What I figured out was to do manual installation of components. If I was you, I'd remove files that you have installed. Go to registry and delete all Sony entries (as described in kurisu's help thread). Then downolad ss 2.1 again, but after download is completed and installer starts, cancel it. Go to C:Documents and SettingsDrZhivagoLocal SettingsTemp *replace DrZhivago with local user name! ** C may not be letter for your HD  Here are your components in SS folder. OpenMG,SS2.1 Hi-Md drivers etc. In following order: Unzip and install Launcher / Launcher-CONNECT.zip Unzip and install OpenMG / OpenMGSetup.zip Unzip and install ??? / SS-SL-English.zip Unzip and install SS 2.1 / SS-English.zip Unzip and install SS 2.1 patch / SS-Add-English-CDDB-SMB-XPCD.zip This should work,as it did for me 100 %. Also install Hi-MD personal audio driver(if you don't have one) You can find it here. http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DNA/himd/himd.asp?l=es Cheers

Skyther maybe its time to change that awful avtar of yours.

Bhangraman is slowly becoming real pain in ass on these forums  :rasp: . Give it up dude, and let me believe that I'm getting much better sound from my MZNH1.
-
We have 'em in decent supply here in Australia. I have just bought my 5 th disc today. :rasp:
-
Answer to you 2nd question. Yes.
-
No.Period. First batches that will hit shelves worldwide soon, are all made in Japan. I doesn't mean of course that somewhere down the track production won't shift some place else. Could we now put an end to this issue. Cheers
