don't buy the cd. you can't use WMP but the software for sony devices is a free download at www.connect.com or www.connect-europe.com

standard alkaline is fine. don't think you should turn the other battery off, the unit will draw power from both sources iirc.

can you return it?

there was a second run of them about two years ago. i'd say that's when it was updated to typeS

sounds like age. repair is too costly compared to the cost of a new unit in most countries.

i run it on an AMD 3200XP 1.7 gig ram 2x 80gig HDD ati [saphire] 9600xt xp pro liteon 52x32x52 lg supermulti 8x dvd blah all bought in bits & built by me & benq joybook 6000n 512ram external 24x cdrw/dvd drive i've got older versions installed on two old 'puters but i don't use them for transfers anymore.

for me the greatest step forward for sonicstage in versions 3.2 & 3.3 are the drm removal for imported oma & omg files. without the drm they can be dragged & dropped like any other files including to other hard drives & sonicstage installations. of course sonicstage is still needed to transfer but the change opens up om* far more than anything previously.

tunecast/II are poor at best. average sound qual & very heavy on the batteries.

yep. hence the inverted commas. i'm intrigued too as i have a busted netmd that still plays back & reads toc data but doesn't transfer yet none of the recordings are worth paying for winnmd

actually a440 some have a 'line out' selectable from the menus out of the same plug as the headphone. marc does this read the track details & write id3 or file names ala winNMD?

E1ghtyf1ve any user who's owned mds & still does is more than welcome here even if they have some other problems with the format. please keep your opinions of other users closer to your chest. as for the iRiver H140 it's biggest issue was build quality, esp. the remote & the wierd sharp edged button. it has been replaced by the h340[?] iirc with similar specs & a colour screen.
