Maybe try Loading SS, and THEN plugging in the MD. If this doesn't work... maybe try installing SS on another computer, if you have one. Maybe ask Sony for a new connection cable? Say your's is broken or something?

Looks like everyone is interested in this topic! 8,200 views since the 1st post! What I never was able to understand, and I sought of understand it now, is why if we bought something from America - say an MD, it would cost $500, but the same MD in Australia would be selling for $700-800... I never understood that...? Couldn't retailers just get shipments of stuff from cheaper sources, and sell it below competitor prices, therefore bringing in more customers... and maybe making a nice profit? Couldn't Sony do this? Instead of making $200 profit on everything they sell, maybe make $50 profit, and they will sell more, so in the end they will make more, by selling things cheaper?! I know there is the whole “More expensive… better the product” rather than “cheap is crap”concept, but I mean, Sony come on!

Was just looking at the 1 recording I have uploaded , and I see 40 people have visited that page, but it doesn't say how many people have downloaded the file. I know in the Download section of this Forum, the software downloads all have 'Download counters' last time I checked... maybe have download counters for the gallery as well? For Recordings...

I couldn't agree more! Paying $800 for an MD unit is just outta this world I think... And that is why no-one buys them for that much! $400 and you can get 15GB iPOD... but for $800... you can get a MD, that only plays 1GB at a time... doesn't make too much sense... I know MD's can record and all of that stuff... but still that much of a price difference.. iPOD shuffle 1GB - $230... basically everything a MD is, BUT WITH mp3, and without recording capibilities.... Some of this info may ve a little out... but I hope all get the gist of what I am trying to say... yeh?

I won't be recording directly into the PC, I will be doing multiple recordings on my MD, and then once transferred the files onto the PC, will be editing them and so on... Good to know Audacity does multiple layers though!

Kristal looks good! Except for the fact that it doesn't take mp3 files.. which all my recordings would be in... is there a plug-in for this? Yeh, school has Audition, haven't yet been able to have a good look at it, but will do! It would be too expensive for my to buy, but school would be an obvious place to use iit!

Hi guys, I am currently in the last year of my Schooling! And for Music (Subject) I need to create a composition... That part is all fine, but no one in the class has any recording hardware to record the compositions, because you have to hand in a recording. I said I would be happy to record everyone's comps, but the thing is, they may want to edit parts of the comp, or cut and paste different sections in different palaces etc... I know that I would want to do this. I currently use Audacity to edit music files, but that program is pretty basic... and I want to be able to import multiple layers of sound into the one recording... which I don't think Audacity does.. (Correct me if I am wrong) What software would you recommend for my needs? I have heard Magix Music Maker 2005 is pretty good (only prob is I live in Australia... and I don’t think they ship to me, but I can always find out), but I know of no others. All suggestions most welcome! I would like to be able to save the file as different file formats, add multiple layers to the 1 recording, add effects to the recording… Thanks for your time!

What you might need to do, and I have to do this as well is: If you connect you MD to the PC before getting into SS, then I find that SS can't find my MZ-NH1 at all... so what I do, is I just take the cable out of the MD, and then plug it back in, wait 10 secs then click on the TRANSFER button, and my MD will then be listed... Hope this helps mate!

Well it all started when I needed to know if I could transfer a recording from my Hi-MD to my PC, then burn it to a CD in mp3 format... and I had absolutely NO IDEA... So i went onto google.com, and types in Mindisc Forum, and this forum was probably the 4th result... that looked like an actually forum, so I clicked the link, and here I am today!

What does the manual say in it that makes you think 2G MD's will be in Australia?

Oh ok! I didn't understand what that "foam is scored" meant, but now I do, this makes me even more want this bag! I live in Australia, we do have camera shops, so I will have to go and check them out, but so far the cheapest bag I have seen is $95 AUS... which I think is a little extravigant for a bag.. Any ideas where I might be able to get cheaper bags?

Why would you want an out of date Sony magazine...? Unless of course you collect them.
