MZ-R900 Care for a classic pre-NetMD device?

-
Thanks for the warm welcome DEJ915! I am glad to see you around MDCF. Keep up the hunt for classic MD units!
-
You could ship it to Sony for repair service. However, that will cost you at least $110 and it's best to acquire a new unit instead. If you are still interested in the format. I would recommend getting a new HiMD unit. Try and browse around the forum for more details about the pros and cons of HiMD. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, I believe your unit may have expired. The error is likely a result of an aged or faulty optical block.

You can follow discussion pertaining to SonicStage running on Mac O/S: here.

Thanks for the thorough comparative review.

My Hi-MD Walkman MZ-RH10 | Blue Pictorial
Ishiyoshi replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
I haven't try it but assume it can display Chinese characters especially Traditional Chinese with no problem. I will need to confirm other European languages later. Thanks for the reminder. -
According to our Taiwanese members, this new Hi-MD media is available for retail sale in Taiwan; and they cost the same as their predecessor: the "blue/purple" 1GB disc. In addition, they are packaged like standard 74/80 min MDs. I am going to investigate its availability back in Japan. Hopefully, other producers such as TDK, AXIA, Maxell and Victor will follow suit.

Hmmm at this point, I think we need to revisit your system specs. I would recommend you post your system specs, O/S and hardware info. We will then try and assist you further.
-
Which installer version did you employ? For example: US, Asia-Pacific or European version? Perhaps the process was terminated due to a busy server and it is not your PC's fault. If you do not need Connect music service, try installing the Asia-Pacific version. Again, the different version of SonicStage 3.1 is within this thread.
-
Could you elaborate the steps you have taken so far? Remember the sequence is important. Make sure the sequence mirror the steps outlined in the FAQ:
-
I think deleting the entire Sony Corporation tree may not be advisable since you may have other utilities/softwares dependent on certain entry. Perhaps you could delete entry within the Sony Corporation tree that relates directly to OpenMG, NetMD and SonicStage.
-
That's really odd. At least the error message is gone. All I can say is keep trying re-installation and repeat the steps outlined preceding this post. Do remember to reboot prior to reinstallation.
-
Thanks for the info. I shall have to call home to obtain the new 1GB Hi-MD disc. At this point, I can't seem to locate its existence even by domestic Japanese etailer.
-
I believe those two will do. Of course, do uninstall SonicStage and OpenMG first. Good luck.
-
Can you venture into the registry once more and delete all traces of SonicStage and OpenMG in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Corporation\SonicStage and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Corporation\OpenMG respectively. Then choose your desired version of SonicStage 3.1 from this thread. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for sharing. You are one brave soul. Anyhow, I noticed in your pictorial, there's one different variation of the HiMD disc. Where did you obtain the disc?

Hat Trick For MDCF? - Service Mode + 2nd Gen Hi-MD
Ishiyoshi replied to Christopher's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
The procedure highlighted in the first post - changing destination codes, specifically to "24", is with the intent to enable European and North American models to attain functions such as Japanese/Chinese character support, full EQ selection and no volume restriction (especially for the European model). This procedure, “Destination setting” is quoted from the service manual itself. So, what you read in the first post is essentially part of the service manual. To answer your query, the Service Manual does provide explanation to all abbreviation, codes, shematics and part numbers; and the adjustment value “24” represents the following destination: Hong Kong, Korean, Australian and Tourist model. If you need further information just post accordingly and we will try and answer your query. However, I think the aim of the initial post is clear. -
That's brilliant! So, all languages (English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian) of SonicStage 3.1 Europe version is now available for download. According to kurisu, MDCF will release its own version of SonicStage 3.1 today.

Yes, I do. You can read the first post of this thread for details. -

Should you deviate from the prescribed destination codes, your unit will likely not function. Of course, I can't confirm that. But to be on the safe side, use only prescribed destination codes given by the service manual. -
How about: 1) Beethoven: Piano Sonata No.15 in D, Op.28 "Pastorale": Andante [Classical era] 2) Charles Mingus: Moanin' [Classic Jazz]

Glad to hear that it finally works for you. Simple Burner 2.0 is optional and it is not included with the current installer. You do not really need to use Simple Burner 2.0 since the improved SonicStage 3.1 is pretty efficient. It's up to you though. Officially, Simple Burner is bundled with the original SonicStage CD-ROM that ships with its respective HiMD unit. However, you can certainly download a standalone Simple Burner 2.0 within the download section of this forum. click here. Just a note of interest, Simple Burner 2.0 will not work with SonicStage running simultaneously. You will need to exit SonicStage prior to using Simple Burner 2.0.

My Hi-MD Walkman MZ-RH10 | Blue Pictorial
Ishiyoshi replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
I got my blue unit for about USD$260 inclusive of shipping. I think the US version cost about $240 excluding shipping. In addition, for the US version, it only comes in black and it does not have the charging cradle nor the matching color RM-MC35ELK remote. -
You should go ahead and install SonicStage 3.1. Presently, all version of SonicStage 3.1 is online except for the European version. Go to the following thread and choose the SonicStage 3.1 version you desire.
