I just buy this unit ,Onkyo MD-105FX(S), on audicubes2.....afther a few days of thinking about it....if a little expensive but I tired of managing my Hi-Md on the portable. I'm watting for this unit....a little nervously more news in a days
-
My Mz-RH1 makes this moise, even in 1GB disc, this is normal, this unit is a little quite than my "Older" MZ-NHF800
-
I will use my MD as long as my units works (I have 5 diferents units for this proupose ), i don't like walkmans based on hard drive or flahs memory, Minidisc (or Hi-Md) is for my the bether choise for many rasons....low cost media, verstalie edit functions, low power consumition... Now my MZ-RH1 its on reparation....afther a lot of drops during regular use......(afther a 1 year of heavy use) sure that HD walkmans aren't so srtong than my Mz-RH1 Atrac sounds great , rather than mp3 :-) and Sonicstage, the lastes version is a good program, very similar than itunes i.e
-
The only diference is the physical disc, 3 layer on 1 disc on 1GB Hi-MD disc. Also the ouptut needed to record or play on 1GB is much than on a regular disc formated to Hi-MD, making the the automony shorter than in MD mode.

Fine !!! just transfering songs to mi MZ-RH1 , the best Unit made Thanks Guitarfx ;-) sorry for my poor english
-
It's not a regular MD discs they are for professional use, I supose that they are betther than regular minidisc disc
-
also the MZ-RH1 is still available
-

I ordered mine from USA cause the euro units have a few diferces: -less volume output due europe rules -No ferrite core on the remote -Much expensive thant the Usa one. Also the euro unit dosen't come with 1GB disc, no disc is included with it. Usa Unit dosen't have Worldwide Warranty.....only for the usa market. The ac-dc apator was the same , cause it was a Worldwide 100-240V and 50/60HZ.

For over 2GB FAT 16 ( the file sistem of MS-DOS, Windows on basis installation) is not suitable. Instead of FAT16 if Sony realizes a new brand of Hi-MD it could use the FAT32, so it cant permit about 1000 GB, and its fully compatible with Windows 95 (osr2 versions and others newsverions, like Win98,Winme,Win2000,Winxp and also Windows Vista). Also this file sistem is suported for all versions of Linux, (I don't know if on Mac is suported), so it colud be use on a large systems. And why not to produce a SonicStage version for Linux? in my opionion it would be very simple...the major platforms you control the best possibilites to male money, so....Sony come on!!! Also a Hi-MD deck and a HI-MD for my car woulb be so nice!! sure that i'll buy it :-)

I have this message on display once "low battery" and the unit wont charge..... (with one MD inserted), but after ejecting the disc and repluging the charger to AC it started to charge fine. It's normal that bat don't have the expected runig time that vendors says, cause this idications are based on optimals conditions ei, display of, MD instead of Hi-MD.... that normaly it don't happen...but you can improve the battery live with this generals rules: -Charging the battery only when runt out (so if you conect the unit to computer unplug the bat to prevent that bat starts to charge) -If you don't use the unit for a long time, quit the bat and stores on a dry and dark place, and at 50 % of this capacity
-
I have the same "problem" the eject button of this unit is so sensitive, that when I carry this unit into my jacket it resets very frecuently. Anybody have a idea to solve this isue? (this units works great but it this "feature" disgasting me much, probably I return to my old MZ-NFh800) thansk a lot

Yo can also reformat the Hi-Md disc to others file sistem, like NTFS or EXT2. But it's file system , file system that is no FAT, it's not reconigze for the Walkman to record music, just computer data, if you want to record music you must to reformat again whit FAT file System. If you use the Hi_Md for data only storage, and Windows, is better to reformat the current FAT to NTFS, that is more secure than standard FAT.

After 2 months of use, my "new" RH1 skips during playback. It's star with little skips during the current track, afther that the sounds interrupt continuesly. To solve this I must to stop the current track and replay. I prove to cleening the lens, whit a cleening disk, but it ocurrs again. I trie with another disk and also the same, etiher wiht Hi-Md or Normal MD sad.gif . It's happend after a few minutes of playing disk, and wiht no order of track, maiby after 20-30 minutes of playing the disk. My old MZ-NHF800 don't doo that, I think that this is a fault. (it happend also wen the unit is not affected by a shock, i.e on a table, and also whit the hold swicht turned on or off)

HI!! ; Finaly I can record trow optical cable!!! This unit only seems to record via optical if you conect the optical cable to the regular cd player, I use a DVD player whit optical output. It's seems that this unit can't record via optical usb soundcards, as in my case Sound Blaster Extigy and Sound Blaster MP3, even the others units that I have works fine, no idea way If your Ac-DC are broken, you can use a normal Ac-DC converter, only one think.... It can be capable of giving 12V as ouput whit a 1Ma, less amperage makes that you can't recarge the battery correctly or record and play ok. The runtime of the bat it will be about 1 hour of continus playback, on recording mode about 45 minutes.

Hi Guis; I think that 5 GB could be possible in case of new format of MD/HI-MD, that involves new lend and new laser, like blue ray technology. I hope that if one day Sony produces MD whit this technology it will be compatible both with standard MD and HI-MD. For me 1GB are very practical for holding music,45 Hours (atrac3plus 48KB) or 7 Hours and 55 minutes (Hi-SP) are still enough for me, and for and inexpensive disk, about 6 euros each disk, are perfect. But maiby for others stuffs 1Gb are a not ok. FAT partitions are limited up to 2GB,32kb each cluster, for biger partitions (lager than 2GB) FAT32 is required, or other file sistems like NTFS or RAISER (Linux).

Hi!! I bought this unit from ebay few days ago, and it's still works. It's souns pretty good , for the atrac 1.1 version. I can record on it via analog audio via jack to jack cable, but when I conect the optical one,the screen change from analog to "no signal". I tried this sample frequencies---> 48KH,44KH and 22Kh but none of them works. I have another unit, MZ-NHf800 and the MZ-R1 that conected at the same source works fine,so the cable it's not the problem, I think.... Anybody nows what frencuency this unit can record? Thanks for all!!! I love Minidisc!!!

Hi!! Any body knows about more capacity than the LIP-4WM? Thank's Ps: The MZ-RH1 is fantasic

Hi guys My experienci with sonicstage it was betwen love and hait, but in global it's not a bad program just a litle bit confusing and it needs a huge use of processor when it transfrom from cd or mp3 to atrac. But I'm very disaponting with Sony by the fact of this software only works with Windows....it's strange don't you think? There aren't any software for Linux (licenced by Sony), only a few developements creates by Linux users that report a litle (but not depreciative) functions, such naming tracks or moving it, but no uploading or donwloading. Sony must be open minded and develope a software that runs on Linux (and Mac also) for many reasons, economicaly (more users can use the product) also for users thar currenly run Windows on theirs PC, that can know that if one day they want to migrate fron Windows to Linux their products will be used whitout problem on the new.

Hi guys I can't believe it.... Years ago my cousin tells me how good sound this format (in the age of cassettes), but isn't until the 199x that I bought my first MD walkman (the mz-n505). I remember my first inpresion...very good quality, very good runtime whit just one battery, good to donwload music from pc and very aforable media. But this model fucks me....the blank disc error came in few months...so...the first question returme.....I bougth another MD or an mp3 player? afert thinking I decide to bought the mz-n710...and...I was superious... aluminium shield, mic alowed, one battery gum-pack that allow many hours in one word espectacular!! only one thing....the european version has got a very reduced amp, so when I carry on the tub (underground) or bus, the noise of the ambient can't heard my recordings. At this point I decided to pass all my music in MD format, so I have at last 100 MD whit many and many hours of my music, but not only this , I bought a MD-Deck (the MD-JE480) to lisent whiout phones and for the comveniecne of remote control. So that's the point I have all music in MD format and every CD music that I buy I convert into MD. My last "baby" was the MZ-NHF800 (directly inported from USA), and form my is perfect, at same this I can carry all my university stuffs and and my music plus i can upload my own recording and after transferd to CD or some what else. So, for my is the best "gadget" that I colud never bought, it's so pleasen to don't depends of the computer to transfert music and also is the aforable MD cardtige (2€ a 80minutes) that it can fit about 5 hours in one .... If this AD is confirmed it would be a sad day for MD users :( (sorry for my poor english)
