  1. seems like the most reliable way is to fork out 50bucks for a (definitely) geniue replacement? sigh.
  2. hmhm.. Haha. I was attracted to MD not because of the recording, but rather the fact that the batteries and the memory media is replacement. Also MD is reknown for its Hi-Quality sound! Soo.. here I am. Wondering where I should go one day when my DH10P and NH900 died. That will be hard for me. I even use MDs to backup my programming source codes!
  3. lol.. how about there are no more MD units left in the world? What would be a nice replacement?
  4. any input about Koss SparkPlug or The Plug? Was quite interested to buy them because of the low pricing, but was not sure if they sound good. Currently I own a pair of Koss Porta Pro, Sony EX81 (cable rot, so chucked it in my drawer, never to see the light again), ATH-EM5 (on my second pair, the first suffered lose wiring).
  5. What if one day you woke up and found out that the last of your md unit is dead, and sony had stopped selling MDs. What will you do?
  6. interesting to note that most people "upgraded" from cd to ipod because u can dl musics to the player. But we md users had been doing it for years! Anyway, iPod price is hardly justified. High price and low sound quality. When i see a few of my classmates using iPod or people using those "signature earbuds", i was laughing inside. You know why? In less than one year most of their iPod nano broke. I also began to wonder whether they were paying for the a good quality DAP or paying for apple's advertising costs.
  7. but really, other than the hype they could generate, if you look at the features and stuffs, ipod is nothing but a normal mp3 HDD player with jacked up price. Even in terms of design, it is just a rectangle with a square and circle on it:)
  8. Never bought any premastered MD before.. Dang.. thats so sad. Ok. If i see someone with DH10P on the road it must be you. Haha.. I own DH10P + NH900. Using Koss Porta Pro / ATH EM5. Thinking of buying sparkplug to use when studying in mac. Explore Daiso more, and you will find funny looking MD plastic carrying cases. (Entering NS next year. 9. whee.. my dh10p now displays chinese! retransfering my chinese songs now
  10. I'm using DH10P and am considering buying an extra batt. I checked with the local sony spare parts service and was told I could get one for S$81 (around USD50). Thats pretty expensive! So i check out ebay and was shocked to discover that these batteries are going cheap! http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?c...-4WM&category0= Are these reliable? Also, how do i ship them to Singapore?
  11. Went to Daiso just now and bought another of these racks. There are a huge collection of MD stands there so do take a look. Went hunting for more of the Daiso Cutipop MD series but was disappointed to find it gone. I bought 3 from there a few months ago. Dug through their MD section and bought a Sony 74min Basic, Pink Daiso Cats & Dogs Series, Blue Daiso Cats & Dogs Series. There are still alot of unsold MDs there, but it was much lesser than the last time i visited the shop. I think they are not restocking so get it asap! Be warned: Because very few shoppers actually cared about the MDs, they were all pretty dusty! Did saw some multi-jacket pouches for MD, if that is what you meant by soft md cases? For MD jackets they come in packs of 4. I think only 1 or 2 sets left. Went by Best at IMM, saw a NetMD unit for sale at 189. A label next to it read: "Sold as displayed without any accessories." I wondered where the remote, charger and box are. By the way, anyone from Singapore with DH10P? If not I'm proud to announce I'm the only one! Hehehehe! PS: The Sony Basic 74min i bought was the last piece!
  12. I would be even more interested to see an Hi-MD video camera Anyway the think is look: the engineers managed to jerk up the memory of the discs to 1GB, double the capacity of the older disc, even allow us to have album arts and all, on a medium originally designed for replacing the tape. Those R&D guys must have underwent so much headache and brainstorming sessions, including overcoming various technical obstacles. Yet, what they put together couldn't sell and the masses went ahead and purchase ipod, which was not a technolgical master piece (even cheap china companies can create harddrive based mp3 players!). The price for DH10P was outrageous. Why would any non-md fan buy a 1.3MP at a price which could actually allow you to purchase a budget CPU with WindowsXP Original. Lol. Although its a great product, in actual fact DH10P's market was limited only to md fans like us, and most md fans need the recording feature. So DH10P was a no no. I wondered if they sold more than 10 thousand DH10Ps around the world. I feel its like a hell lot of effort gone to waste because sony couldn't advertise their products or fix it at reasonable price. And for every product they have, it is bound to have a downside, no matter how small or large. I've never seen a perfect sony product.
  13. Seems like those engineers invested their effort on Hi-MD, photo enabled Hi-MD, and the product never really caught on with the masses. Various interesting progresses were made by their effort, but due to lack of publicity and demands, we see the MD line being pulled out of so many countries. Cool Models, like the RH10 and DH10P are discontinued. I pity the engineers. Salute!
  14. thats shocking! no wonder all the MDs were gone.but i still saw MZNH900 (my first model) selling at 499 at harvey norman at PS. For cool looking MD blanks (not those 1GB) i go to Daiso at IMM. Its a huge $2 shop. MD blanks selling at $2 each. They sell MD accesories too, MD racks (similar to the cd ones), MD boxes and stuffs. Daiso is a jap shop. Seems like in future if we need any more players, we need to order it off the net. so how many singaporeans MD users do we have here? For the record, those beautiful mds such as these: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=11820 posted by shiyoshi could be found at $2 bucks each in S'pore. Quite a steal. I bought a couple of those. Going to buy more tml.
  15. yoz for md blanks i got them from Sony Gallery V3 at SLS. They sell the cheapest sony stuffs in Singapore. RH1 won't be in Singapore. And most likely the same goes for any other future MD players. hehe, managed to buy DH10P from eek tech and shipped it to Singapore for a total cost of $350. A real steal. Had to buy a proper adapter for another $22 though.

  21. anyone gotten their DH10P yet? anxious=D
  22. hi, although a 1.3MP seems to be "low quality", it boils down to how the photograher takes photo, and the use of the photo. Cameras of ever higher and higher MP came out all the time. Why? It is a marketing ploy to get people to buy them. Since consumers do not know about technical stuffs, the best way to convince cousmers to buy the cameras is by releasing ever higher MP cameras. This causee 1.3MP to seems like low quality, although it is already more than enough for most consumer needs. This is just like what Intel did with their pentium chips. If you bother to read up about processors, you will discover that there are 3 factors that govern the processor's performance, not just the amount of HZ. However, since consumers are unlikely to know about things other than HZ, Intel kept releasing processors with higher and higher HZ to attract consumers, until now they could not produce anymore and have to rely on things like duo core and increasing cache. The fact is, an AMD with lower HZ than a Pentium processor actually performs better. Yet consumers are blind to this, and think that more HZ = good. Just like camera's MP. Another thing is memory. Even if you have a camera with high MP, most likely you will not use the maximum quality, in order to be able to store more photos. Those digital camera are based on flash, and flash are expensive. There is little chance that you will bring 2 or more SD cards of memory sticks around to take photo. When your memory is full, you delete them. For MD, it is cheap enough that you can carry an entire army of MD on a long trip to store all your photos at maximum quality. Isn't that worth buying? As for handphone cameras.. They lack the features of DH10P. Think of it this way. USD185 for both a feature packed Hi-MD Player AND a camera? It is really worth it. Also, isn't it good to keep a decent quality camera with you all the time? Handphone cameras are expensive and lack all the features. As for recording, I can use my NH900. PS: Sorry for my poor grammar.
