Thank You Serge , after listening to first 4 samples the difference in sound quality in my opinion was very close (and i had to listen 5 - 8 times to get a clue), but few next samples were so different that after first 'listening' it was obvious the level of difference between them. Thank You for posting the titles, some of the CDs will be part of my collection, just by judging by such short sample I already like to buy it. Actually this test is good so called "coincidence" because today I went to theSource store checking out Panasonic SL-CT820 D.Sound CD-MP3 Player , and to Sony store asking about the Sony's DNE20 MP3/ATRAC3™ CD Walkman, - sales rep at Sony was telling me that when they were listening in the sound room to MP3 and ATRAC3 recorded in the same kbit/s ( i did not ask what level it was) - but He said that it was very-VERY, noticeable difference in sound quality - and ATRAC3 was definite winner. Also He told me that DNE20 MP3/ATRAC3 CD player has special HD Amp, that is quite better then regular Sony Digital Amp. I think for now I will get that Sony CD player, and keep my eyes on Hi-MD unit, perhaps RH10,-( because it looks I can not get NH900) , unless some people will report significant mechanical problems with that RH10 model. So I understand that from the tests You've done the ATRAC3 is also wining, - in Your opinion. I wonder if the samples that I marked as 5 - if they are by ATRAC3 - I guess You don't have option that we can access our test to see the formats played and our markings.. Thanks for that test == it is GREAT fun, .... Cheeers,.... .

I'm just in process of taking the sound test. I did 4 of them , 5 more to go. The last test /sound was incredible, it is sound of sharp bell like instrument, (i don't know how it is called) but the sound is incredible {at least to me it is} , It is very healing sound. I do believe that future medicine will be based mostly on sound and colour lights. I would like to find title of that CD with "bells" , and with classical music part also. -I would love to buy it. Back to listening, .....the quality of the original source and the replicas are really fantastically close. Thank You Serge Smirnoff for introducing this test. I will talk to friends (and strangers) about it. Cheeers, ....... Woow , ....now this next (5th.) classical tune is just fenomenal

'reefbeef' post='79806' date='Nov 28 2005, 02:44 PM' OK, so I'm heading out on my lunch break at work today. I grab my NH1 and take out the disc I was listening to which was a recording of my gig last night. I pop in a different disc of a live recording of a concert by my favorite musician. Needless to say, it is a highly valued disc. I'm riding down in the elevator and press play. All of a sudden I hear the beginning of the disc that I just took out!?! Even scarier is the fact that it's my voice (I stated the recording settings into the mic before the performance started). I pressed stop and ejected the disc, reinserted and pressed play. It played correctly this time...phew. Has this ever happened to anyone? The only explanation I can gather is that the 1st disc was stored in some buffer of some sort...but I don't know the science behind it. Some backround info to help solve the mystery: 1. The 1st disc was a classic MD recorded in Hi-SP 2. The 2nd disc was a Hi-MD recorded in PCM. 3. I was sober =================================== Ha ha, 3. I was sober I like that clarification You R funny But NOW on dE serious note - is it possible that dE "G" force on elevator going down was responsible for ghostly / time travel play back ?? Or maybe was A reminder that this gig , /that particular tune\ will be "the ONE" to make it for You and in very near future We will use our MD recorders to stealth record Your gigs, aNd "illegally" share Your songs on the net . I wish that for U ==>> to Make it !!! P.S. -- what kind of music U-R playing ??

Thanks, - greenmachine So the: "well encoded mp3" has better sound quality then Atrac. Is this applying also to recording CDs on computer in MP3 format, or only to recording into MP3 players, from computer ? I will not be doing the actual computer recording - i'm not familiar with it ( my friend will ) - and most of the time i'm planning to use the portable (?) Hi-MD or CD player to use or at home (via speakers) or take it with me to work and play also or via speakers, or headphones, but mostly via speakers, ...so i will plug into regular power source most of the time. Cheers,....

Thanks Sparky191 You said to avoid CD players and get a HD unit. But as also You said in other post in "Different Music/HDD Devices" , that the HD units brake, ....and I read that to on other sites, and in that case one will loose all the music. This is the reason i was looking at portable CD players. Yes, the Sony Discman D-NE20, looks good and it has ::: Outputs (at 3V input level): Line output (stereo minijack), Headphones (stereo minijack), Optical digital output ::: -- so I could connect and play via speakers. And i was looking at Panasonic SL-CT810 D.Sound CD-MP3 Player Do U have any opinion on that Panasonic unit - ?? At this point I think i will resign from portable MP3 players and from HD players. Hi-MD (RH10) or portable CD player is on my mind now. I was trying google for "Head Fi" - but i'm having no success to find this site. Please help with link to it. "A well encoded MP3 (256-320kps) can rival SP (292kps) for SQ". --that is good news - but is it available to record on CDs ? "LP2 (132kps) is low quality not high quality." - OK, I understand that when comparing to Stereo on MD deck, but LP2 on MD deck is acceptable for me, and LP4 is Not (any more ). This is the reason i'm looking for similar to LP2 (or better) quality in CD portable player. Yes - greenmachine I made mistake - You R correct in ::: "There are lots of portable cd players - but recorders? I don't think so." Thank U guys for Your help ,.....
-
Hi,- Please help me if U can,.... I like to find out if there is a portable (walkman style) CD player (Sony or other brands) that could play in similar or the same quality as MD-LP2 quality - ( but can record large quantity of music , like MP3 format can ). But i like to also be able to play this portable CD player via speakers, -- so would be good if it had a proper "line out". From what i was reading MP3 format is not that great, ( i never actually had a chance to listen to a MP3 sound ) - and since i do have Sony MDS-JE470 deck - / and I like the LP2 quality / i like this portable CD be able to record in format as close as possible to LP2, -- [ or maybe there is "type"of MP3 format that sounds close to LP2 ] ?. Thank U for any info, ........ EDIT: I'm just in process of reading post by:Damage on: atraclife site "Simple Guide to ATRAC CD Players, A little history along with Tips & Hints" , .....but I would like to hear if U have any other than Sony models to recommend, or any other sites to read reviews on those CD players and as i said before one of the options i really like to have is proper line Out in them. Cheers, ....

Thank U very much, - it was helpful

kurisu , Hi, - Could U please direct me to a source where i can read (objective) opinions on Sony HD5. Especially if it has a chance to record and play music in similar quality as regular LP2. Thank U, .....

Hi, - By now U are probably in Singapore , - in case U are reading this from where U are , here is my suggestion. In the last few days i was reading on few web sites about this "product" Cowon iAudio X5L (30GB) - they have models with higher GB ? ( 40 or 60 even ) - i'm not sure right now. They have few different models - but R made in d-USA so i don't think U get a deal on them is Singapur. 1]. http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/iaudio/x5/ What is iAUDIO X5? iAUDIO is an original multi-media player brand from Cowon Systems. It is a super-compact, portable digital audio device that supports playback of various multi-media audio files including MP3 files and Mpeg4 video, features FM radio listening/recording, recording through a built-in microphone or line-in input terminals, and text and image viewer OTG (USB host feature). 2]. http://reviews.cnet.com/Cowon_iAudio_X5L_3...44045&tag=uolst .....read the reviews about it on this link. Cowon iAudio X5L sounds very interesting. And there is also New Sony HD with high GB capacity. Cheeers,......

Hi blue, - ... nice to see /hear from You again. I was thinking that You got the player and are totally "lost" in Your music If You were reading my other posts here You could figure out that I'm also here to ask for help from much experienced bunch of owners of various Hi-MD models, - at one point of my research if found a web site with Features listed for both models. So I shared it with You. The one thing I noticed today is that on top of my post there is this: *********************** Denon CDR-201SA Presta CD Recorder Deck -------------------------- ..... looks that it got there by mistake, and I hope it did NOT confused You to much I think I had that on the open "New message" where I first compose my posts, do ABC Spelling check, and then post them. I think I was checking AudioCubes site and copy this Denon "thing". In any case wishing You ALL the best. Yes indeed, people here are willing to help, and spare their time to share info. Thanks to Them from me also. Cheeers to ALL, ......

Now when thinking about it ==> actually i think that it might be You who posted the link here to that site

Hi greenmachine Do You know this web site about batteries ::: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/ I visited this web site several days ago [i think the link to it was given by someone on this Forum]. I think this web site is very very interesting. Cheeers, .... P.S. To ALL USA Forum Friends - wishing You a Happy Thanks Giving Holiday. Human :: from Vancouver, BC, Canada

Thanks greenmachine.

Hi, - About bitrates: Do You know if this is correct on my Sony MDS-JE 470 deck [when recording from a CD player]: LP4 = 66 kbps. LP2 = 132 kbps. SP = 292 kbps. I was trying to find this info out form a manual but there is no listing of corresponding bitrates to SP , LP2 , and LP4. I did looked at www.minidisc.org for this info but got "lost in it". I will appreciate info on it from You, [good people].
-
Sparky191, I think You answer that question [in my post # 59] in Your post # 58 for me, Thank You. Looks that is almost impossible to find NEW unopened NH900 - they have it in Australia but not shipping to Canada. I might go for the RH10 in that case, unless someone here can point me out to seller of NH900 in USA or Canada.
-
Thanks Sparky191 As to "adversion to computers" - i don't have it as in theory, (I actually love it) - but I had few big problems with crashes and I'm not very computer knowledgeable, so it cost me a lot of money (and time) to fix it - so from now on I just use it only for e-mails and controlled web surfing. If i was to eliminate the need of editing of the radio talk shows on the unit ( and just transfer that radio program to my Sony MDS-JE 470 MD deck to do editing ) , do You think any of the iRiver models have line in and out , and come close in sound quality to LP2 or to Hi-SP in recording from line "in" and playing music from line "out" ?
-
Sparky191 but in Your opinion is there a unit ( other then MD or Hi-MD technology ) that has line "in" to record from any source [optical or analogue] with out the need to ever use a computer to do recording or ...editing, and I don't care about being able to put truck /artist /CD name or song title, etc, - just like to have them available by recording form my CD player...or if I record radio talk show from radio to be able to edit out the radio commercials or to remove [or move around] some of the songs recorded from a CD player... ...and line"out" to play via regular stereo speakers with sound quality simmilar to Sonys LP2 or Hi-SP ? The one of attractions for me with MD is removable media.

I'm telling You guys the 8-Track Player is comming back { the Hi-8 Track Player to be precise } Here in Vancouver , BC, Canada at Sony store gold 80 minutes MDs are selling for $ 4.89 CAN each. At "London Drug" chain stores here they have lots of Sony blue MDs ( i'm not so sure about the price - but it is also in that range ). I will check prices and colours on Hi-MDs later on today or tomorrow. Edit: I just called Sony store and the Hi-MDs are selling for $ 10.99 CAN each - basic colour - i think just black, (the guy was to busy to check it out the colour, He had customers in the store ). New Hi-8 Tracks Player units will have back packs included to carry the unit As long as they have line "in" and line "out" I will be happy owner of such a beast. Cheeers, ....
-
Very interesting debate , very informative , ...and now I'm depressed - and now I'm going to look for an old 8-track player :) Only if I can find 8-track player /recorder with line "in" and line "out" and a back pack to carry the unit I will be set Maybe they can make Hi-8 track model Thanks guys for interesting points of views.

Thank You Alexx and Thank You ALL for being friendly and helpful in answering my questions. I made my choice to get NH900, to suit best my needs. Now i will have "fun" to find it Cheers, ....

Hi 'The Low Volta' , and Thank You 45 minutes ago I've just found this post by KJ Palmer ( to some one else) and this helped me to make my final decision = to get NH900. I apologize for streEEetching this posting for so loOOOng, but i was not very familiar with all those technical terms. Now i understand much better. I appreciate ALL of You who answer my posts. Thanks for Your patience and friendly attitude I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada - so i might have a hard time to find it here, or in USA , i will be looking and checking for web sites that are reputable to buy it form if they have it. KJ_Palmer Post #25 [Advisor/Ex-Moderator] I have both the RH10 and the NH900. They're very different - the main advantage (to me) of the NH900 is that it can still record directly in the 'legacy' formats (ie. SP, mono, LP2 and LP4) of the old MD and NetMD machines. These options are only available on the RH10- through software downloads. Well apart from what's already been mentioned, soundwise, the RH10 possibly has a slight edge over the NH900 through its new digital amp, but to be honest there's not much in it... The NH900 has a 'line out' mode, which is very useful for playback and (analogue) recording though external equipment like headphone amps and stereo receivers. The RH10 sadly lacks a line out mode, but one can be approximated by adjusting the sound settings... Well, l've kept the NH900 and bought an RH10, because, as usual with Sony equipment, they both have valuable, mutually exclusive features which I don't want to miss out on.... So I couldnt say what's best for you.. if you simply want to upgrade and only want the new formats for recording, go for the RH10, it's a worthy successor...\ ....Thanks KJ_Palmer - that is / was great info. Human Cheers .....

ynos , - Hi , - With our reading any more opinions on NH-1 form other owners those few words from You (ThaNX for it) are enough for me now to disqualify the NH-1 as a potential buy for me. Not much left for me in that case. Except i think the RH-10 , and perhaps MZM-100 but i need to find out if it has proper line "out" or at least simulated line out - [similar to RH-10], because from what i understand MZM-100 it has proper line "in" - (or am i mistaken about that) ??
-
Nooooo - !!! - I was set to buy NH-1 (over RH-10 ) because NH-1 has proper line out and line in = and now i'm reading this ...post # 1 about problems wit NH-1 remote by jkleres , and post # 7 by kpayson that he had problems with NH-1 unit. Should i re-consider my purchase of NH-1 and seek MZM-100 ? As i was writing in my previous posts i need proper line in = to record from any source (but not microphone), and i like proper or good enough line out = to listen (not via head phones) but via speakers. 1]. My choices are NH-910 , RH-10 , NH-1 , and now for the first time i learn about MZM-100 model. 2]. From what i know by now is, that only NH-1 has proper line out (and line in) - , and NH-910 and RH-10 could be set by turning Eq. OFF, and volume to the Max, to use it as a line out, and apparently the sound will come out in quite OK quality , (but perhaps not as good as from proper line out). (( ?and im not sure about 900 model if it has both lines? )) 3]. I was trying to find out if MZM-100 has proper line out, - can I ask You kpayson to verify that for me, Please. (how old is the MZM-100 model ?). Do You really recommend it , and how is the sound quality, did You ever listen via speakers ?. What are the Pros and Cons of this unit ? 4]. And to any other owners of NH-1, do You really recommend NH-1 ?? , are there any more problems with it beside remote ? ThankYou for any info. I have only You guys to help me with making my choice
-
ThanX guys , --that is more comforting to know , esspecially that RH-10 will play OK via regular stereo , ( i have now Sony Mini system CMT-EX 200 with extra Sub, [2 or 3 yeras old], system is sort of medium end model but i don't think sounds that great by it self some how the sound is flat no details, - but when i record CD to a (even LP-4) - the LP-4 sounds better then direct CD form that Mini system, --- and in Stereo or in LP-2 sounds really terrific. (( I have Sony MDS-JE 470 deck )). I wonder if You had the same experience that CD recorded to a MD sounds even better then original CD played on the same stereo with the same volume levels / hmmmm ?? ) --- but i'm also thinking to get for my place one of those small computer speakers, (higher end model=with goOod sound , maybe with separate Sub, - for about $ 150-250 Canadian or more) = with build in amp, - i was checking some , and what i like in them is that they are small and i can easily turn them in different direction when i'm in living room or when in kitchen - so i can easily redirect speakers towards me or even move them around or take to friends place. Any suggestions from You on this type of higher end speakers that will play nice with Hi-MD like RH-10, .... i would appreciate also from You. OR maybe i will get something like::: Logitech Z5500 / 5.1 / 500W / Digital Speaker System ....to compensate for listening to LP-4 for so long and set them up ....and leave it alone. I had no chance to listen to them yet but i've read that they are ....really GoooD. Cheers , .... P.S. ..is there a way to change recorded music [on 80 minutes MDs] from LP-4 to LP-2 format. ...because now i'm = steaminnng = grrrrrr realizing what LP-4 is and is not for music quality. I never listen to a Mp3 sound - but if Mp3 is similar to LP-4 - i feel sorrry for those who listen to it.

Sony CMT-SE1 Micro System Pictorial-Review
Human replied to mercury_in_flames's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
That is good news of You not paying for repair , ..but this is just NOT paying for parts and labor, or just for parts only, and You have to pay for labor ? I wonder if at this point You can still buy an Extended Warranty for Your SE-1. Also maybe You can ask Sony if they can send a courier to pick it Up from You place, ... i know here i got option to do that when i was returning one replacement unit that they give me in exchange for the ZS-D55 (the replacement had very small display -very hard to see, and had no RCA style line /In\ and /Out\ ), and Sony send a courier for pick-Up or i could deliver my self to the electronic shop. IMO is good idea if You call Sony and ask, ... and save $10 - to spend on more blanks of MDs You can sort off in a nice joke-iy way tell Sony that one of the forum member in Canada told You that Sony Canada did that , and You wonder if Sony UK can do the same with courier, ...and You can tell them that the saved money for petrol You will spend on Sonys MDs , ....i found out many times that when You ask in a nice and "creative" way quite often You can get extras. Good luck, ... and i hope You will get the unit back soon so You are not deprived of music
