It looks like a very bright silver rather than the usual grey silver but it is really hard to tell with these as they change so much according to the light conditions. Rats....If only SonyStyle in other countries would follow suit. The engraving option sounds like whats offered with the iPod Nano. Does the silver carrying case have sort of bubbles in it?

A fake patch - worrying development for PSP Trojan.PSPBrick is a Trojan horse that deletes critical system files on a PlayStationPortable , preventing the device from restarting correctly. Some USB flash drives come with lanyards these days and you don't normally need to carry them strung around your neck all the time, these lanyards are very useful for the NWE4/5 series. They may say Verbatim. imation, SanDisk rather than Sony but still work. Sony have missed yet another advertising opportunity for very little outlay (not to mention customer satisfaction).

Plus WMA support (some soft/firmware release later). Matching coloured headphones Carrying pouch as well as that weird clip thing. Still no lanyard.

Sony Network Walkman NW-E407/B Pictorial
bogon07 replied to sumguy_'s topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Nice pictures sumguy_. The black does look nice. I was surprised by the weight it is heavier than it looks so it feels good & solid. Did you need to update the firmware to V2 or was it already loaded ? Hope the iPod does not contaminate it. -
How about this http://www.pocketmac.net/products/pmpsp/indexg.html PocketMac® For PSP, the original Mac-To-PSP Sync Solution... "Now you can sync your Playstation Portable with your Mac. PocketMac For PSP™ is the first program to allow Mac users to sync their contacts, music & photos from their Mac to their PSP. And it's fully integrated with iSync as well!"

There is the new NWA605/7/8 series coming out depending on your location. http://www.atraclife.com/index.php?showtopic=179&hl= Looks pretty much the same but has more advanced shuffle options and uses Connect player instead of SonicStage and more capacity 2GB in the NWA608. The current colour list doesn't include black (only Violet, Silver, Blue and Pink; Limited Edition Colors - Emerald Blue and Gold). I suppose this is why you mentioned early November ? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the NWE4/5 you can use MP3 File Manager Version 2.0 instead of SS which provides the functionality of simple MP3 files transfer via drag and drop to the Network Walkman. I use SStage and have not tried MP3 File Manager yet. The MP3 playback seems ok (ie doesn't appear to be degraded )so far but would obviously depend on the sound quality of the MP3.

thanks again Ishiyoshi, I first assumed they were the same physical size with a different size harddrive. They look better in the pictorial than the press release - the reflection in the first two pictures almost give the impression they are transparent. The plug on their standard earphones sticks up a long way compared to the one on the remote.
-
Ishiyoshi Is that circular adaptor due to the A3000 & A1000 being different sizes ? In some of the pictures one seems a little smaller than the other.
-
Ohh MySony in Japan actually does something for its members unlike MySony Aust.
-
mmp64, You are right the new remote looks very minimalistic with no display perhaps some existing MD LED remotes will work with the new HDDs as the socket appears similar. Maybe Sony will bring out some higher featured remotes later and hopefully one with an OLED display.
-
Not if you had the remote for basic functions or have caught the iPod Shuffle disease.
-
Dam iPod and all this focus on shuffling. If Sony want to copy the iPod that much they should take advantage of their music division and release limited editions of these new flash and harddrive players tied to their big name music stars with perhaps some pre-loaded greatest hits. A "Bruce Springsteen A608 LE" or "Alice Cooper A605 LE" may alienate some buyers but would be a great collector's items for others.

Good pictures spex considering the conditions. You're game, photos and an iPod inthe Sony canteen. Pity there is no sign of a british racing green version or even a pearly white one yet.
-
Thanks Ishoyoshi, Not being able to read Japanese I wasn't sure if there was something blatantly obvious about them on the AV or Sony Japan site.
-
What is the difference between these new NWA6s and the NWE4/5s apart from a button that says DISP FUNC ?
-
Wow, Ishiyoshi you guys are quick I only just saw Indeego's post. So it seems that Connect will replace SonicStage (good news hopefully). These Walkmen or Walkmanz look like real iPod killers. Apple could take legal action against that wheel thing though. There should be a good accessory market for these too.
-
They look pretty good. Very sleek. They seem to have earphone and remote sockets on the top. Atleast there is a range of colours apart from Black or Silver (not that I have anything against Black or Silver). I wonder if there scratchability of the OLED has been improved so that it is more resistant. As you say no sign of a SonicStage logo. Could Sony be moving to simple drag & drop operation if so how will files convert to ATRACPLUS (via the Connect software perhaps) The wheel thing looks very iPodish though !!! The site also has those Bean flashplayers that Kurisu mentioned recently.

Interesting .... Do the USB ports on a computer function slightly differently to this dedicated USB unit as they can power a Minidisc player or a flash player ? Are the Computer USB ports variable via software, automatically or drivers depending on the attached device's needs ? Are the power requirements for USB connection and the "DC in" different on a Minidisc recorder/player ? Given the voltage difference between the two adaptors its not an experiment I'd actually want to try on a Minidisc unit. Looks like this USB AC-U50A could be plugged in almost anywhere in the world depending on the types of blades it has.

I was really pleased when Sony came out with the E4/5 series because the Fuji card drive was pleasing to look and and felt good to handle. All over it was one of those objects with a sort of charisma but not much you could do with it ..... if it had an MP3 functionality similar to that PanasonicSV-SD100V then I would have had a good reason to carry it around although large xD cards aren't cheap. I'm sure that these Sony flash players will later be viewed as a high point in style and functionality. They just look and feel good.
-
The Sony E4/5 players are very similar in shape and style to the Fujifilm xD card drive. The dimensions are almost the same. Perhaps this was the inspiration for Sony.

I purchased a Sony MDR-NE1R which is a sort of lanyard-earphone combination. Thought the idea of them both in one unit would cut down on tangles and be more convenient. The lanyard connection is attached to a small plastic block which has a sort bayonet connector for quick release. Threading the loop through the little hole at the back of the E407 was a test of dexterity which took nearly ten minutes. It seems fairly robust so far.
