Seems to be concerned with the sensitivity when tuning and selecting FM stations. Buried on page 41 of the manual: If several unnecessary stations are received If interference is prevalent and reception is too strong, press the REPEAT/SOUND button to set to "Local". Under normal conditions, press REPEAT/SOUND button again to set to "DX"

The Australian (AsiaPacific) E505 picks up stereo FM. Possibly it may revert to mono if the FM signal is weak. I have an old Technics tuner which does that.

The same Sony "engineers" that gave us ConnectPlayer and the now discontinued Bean walkman perhaps. Hard to imagine the soft hairs on a lens cleaner CD could scratch anything. I've found a lens cleaner CD helpful to remove dust and fluff on the PC and CD players.
-
As bangraman says try ripping the CD in something such as iTunes, WMP10 or CDex. Suggest use CDex to rip as .wav files then import the files into SonicStage. Also try a lens cleaner on your disc drive.

The Dirt Surfers - 40 MP3s collected over the years

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml.../13/ngadg13.xml "Music players are also turning over rapidly. Sony's Bean MP3 player was launched at the end of August. Yesterday, the company confirmed that it will be discontinued in April. It insists that repairs are still available long after production ends."

I see from the Ataclife news blog that Sony has reduced the A600, E400 prices in Japan by around 2,000 Yen ($17USD or 10GBP). I wonder if this is a direct response to the 1GB nanos and the drop in flash drive prices? I agree with pata2001 "7. Sony USA: Use Japanese models. Don't waste money by re-designing units or re-programming firmwares just to eliminate kanji support." but would like to see Sony go a step further and drop its regionalisation altogether and use World tourist models everywhere. Surely this would increase their production efficiency, eliminate confusion and make repairs easier for the consumer.

Sony urgently need to make their flash, HDD and MD players compatible with as many software music players (especially WindowsMediaPlayer) as possible. I haven't had too many problems with SonicStage or ConnectPlayer but who wants to have to install four or five different music programs on their PC. I noticed that a blogger on Znet predicted some higher capacity nanos (8GB) to be released this year . The A1000s would then be sandwiched between 4GB & 8GB nanos. So you could see Sony concentrating more on the A3000, while dropping the A1000 in favour of the A1200. Although I would prefer to see the A600s in higher capacities.
-
Apple may be thinking of eventually replacing the ipod shuffles with these smaller capacity nanos enabling them to swamp the market with nanos. As Ezero said replacing the shuffle with the nano effectively nullifies Sony's advantages in the 1GB segment (even though the E400/500 is such a great design). Also it could relate to Apple having some sort of deal to secure its flash memory supply for the future and part of that may include having to take up a large stock of 1GB memory now. Against Apple's 1GB nano or shuffle in most countries Sony has different flashplayers depending on your region: E107 (Circ) E307 (Bean) E407 (Core) E507 (Core) A607 (?) Compared to Apple, Sony has a range of products covering the same market segment indicating a lack of focus or faith in its own products.
-
So far I've found no problems charging an E507 or E407 that way.
-
Strange of Apple to offer a reduced capacity. Only Apple spin doctors could sell this capacity reduction as a positive. For those who want to keep up with the ipod trend and use it as a fashion accessory but don't really need to put many songs on it. Will Sony reduce the price of its 1GB flash players to compete? Forgot about the old NWE107 (has anyone actually bought one of these)
-
I wonder if Sony will ever release a World Tourist model of the A608 which would have a wide FM range.
-
Try using SonicStage V3.2, V3,3 or V3.4 to transfer the files.

I had a simialr problem to gerry_rg47 last week although my A1000 was displaying "sorry system32 error" when pressing the artist link button, no of the other did anything and the player was constantly beeping. Just resetting with a paperclip fixed it. I had been trying to renumber the song positions in a particular album in ConnectPlayer before disconnecting and getting this error. Those still songs pay ok but still in the wrong order. The manual suggests to contact Sony support so I thought anything must be better than that and the paperclip rest seemed the most obvious action.

Thanks Ishiyoshi, now the fog has lifted. I couldn't detect the subtle difference between a complete upgrade and an upgrade patch on the AP site. (luckly that I actually have an appointment with my Optometrist on Friday)

Kurisu, Sorry for sticking it in the wrong spot. What is an ISO ( a sort of disk image file or something else)? At 113MB it certainly is a lot bigger than 24-19MB mentioned for 1.0.03 updates. This download file dated 25January2006 from the Asia Pacific Site is "CONNECTPlayer_upgrade_1.0.02.zip" doesn't sound like it is the latest update so I'm really confused now.

http://www.css.ap.sony.com/consumer/templa...=Personal+Audio Sony Asia Pacific has ConnectPlayer Updates (as usual no mention on SonyAustralia yet): Sony CONNECT Player-Update Version 1.0.02.XXXXX / Auto-Update Version 1.0.02.XXXXX Download size: 113MB (119,415,235 bytes) The following symptoms are resolved in this Update version: 1. The CONNECT Player program freezes when trying to exit it. 2. A Windows Security message appears when the CONNECT Player program is started. 3. A tinyhttp.exe error message appears when checking out 1,000 or more tracks. 4. The CONNECT Player program stops functioning after importing 3000 or more tracks. 5. The Gracenote logo is displayed for every file's MusicID wave recognition. 6. The CONNECT Player program freezes if the playback queue is cleared while content is being played in Intelligent shuffle mode. 7. The system requirements listed for the CONNECT Player program in the ReadMe.txt file are incorrect. The following symptom is resolved in the Auto-Update: The Auto-Update function no longer locates updates after an Auto-Update download session is paused and the computer restarted. The following modules are installed as required when CONNECT Player is installed. Microsoft® DirectX® Runtime 9.0c © 2004 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. It is a big file so I hope it is worth the download. I haven't tried yet as it is a 1/4 of my ADSL usage so will wait till next month.

That is an interesting parts site. The inner cabinet ($13USD) is the coloured part so it would be possible to swap colours. E400 2595375-01/11/21/31 Red/Blue/Black/Green E500 2596548-01/11/21/31 Silver/Blue/Pink/Green (no Gold listed !!!)

I've never tried a 40 so I can't comment on that. Maybe others in the forum has tried one with an A3000. I would not think that there would be a radio remote as the one that comes with the NHF800 minidisc player has a socket that is physically different from the normal Sony remote sockets but you never know with Sony. Ishiyoshi or Kurisu may have some better insights on this. Interestingly the manual states that the radio is more of a drain on the battery than playing a minidisc and remember Sony likes to brag about the battery life of its players. Personally I'd like to see an LCD remote styled on the RM-MC55ELK for the A1000/3000.

The service manuals (available from the downloads section)on page 25 indicate that the part you are after is a Cabinet (top) 2-595-376-01. It seems to be the same for both E400/500 series. Hopefully you would be able to order one from Sony.

Try connecting to SonicStage or ConnectPlayer and using that to delete songs or albums from your A1000. Another advantage is that you can see much more of your collection when you are selecting items to delete.

There is the RMNWS1 which is designed for the A1000/A3000 but it is a bit short on features and doesnot have a display. Sony UK recommends the RM-MC35ELK (there is a 3page manual buried in their support section). I use one of these from my Minidisc player and it functions quite well. The only problem is the button which normally changes albums on minidiscs just changes songs on my A1000. but this could be due to the way I selected the songs from the player. Here is a quote from the manual: "Finds the beginning of the first track in the previous album in the selected search mode or in the next album, or the the track previous to the currently playing track in the track list, or the next track. When All Songs is selected, finds the beginning of an index or the first track in the next index." There are also some previous topics in this forum which discuss the pro and cons of MC33 or MC40 remotes.
