  1. Supposedly, AAC sounds better to most people for a given bitrate, than mp3. Not that the difference between 320kbps mp3 and 256kbps AAC is going to be apparent to most people, on most equipment.
  2. Well you could always record an ebook using Audacity or similar then simply save in mp3 at your desired quality (well maybe you knew that already, if so I apologise) could be handy for getting them on your RH-1 though.
  3. If no new unit comes out this year, am I correct in thinking that would be the first time no new portable minidisc unit has been released since 1992?
  4. The RH-1 was announced by this time last year:- http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=14814 so I guess that implies if a new unit is coming this year, we'll hear about it very soon?
  5. I was fooled! I want an RH-2 with color screen ;_;
  6. I'd buy another if I could afford it... But I'm also interested to see what may come after it, since I don't believe this will be the last portable MD unit from Sony.
  7. I never saw good photos of this unit before, so thanks for posting them! Seeing how good the display and pictures look, makes me wonder if this could be a substantive way that Sony could improve on the RH-1 - have a very large ipod-like color display on the front of the unit, so you can see the album art and upcoming tracks, etc. Would be nice for those of us who use the RH-1 as (amongst other things) our mp3 playback solution.
  8. I own an RH-1. Also, we have a dedicated community here. At time of writing:- Yes, I do. [ 53 ] [79.10%] No, I don't. [ 14 ] [20.90%] xD...
  9. This has caused me problems, when walking or running with the unit in my pocket, as well. Possibly the only serious flaw of the RH-1.
  10. I think I could put up with the slight increase in size to allow an AA battery slot. For the convenience.
  11. Anybody have any idea on the theoretical limits imposed by the Hi-MD format? Are we likely to get units much faster at transfer than the RH-1?
  12. Why I chose the RH-1:- 1) good quality mp3 playback AND wav recording in an affordable small unit. 2) backwards compatability with my old MDs, including upload facility. 3) the discs are robust and good for archive purposes etc. 4) style: a combination of cool and ever-so-slight nerdishness
  13. Here's one for the pros then; would uploading an SP MD to PC (as wav), then burning a CD-R with those wavs, then doing an optical digital copy from CD-R to MD be better? Just asking on behalf of the original poster really, I only use MDs with mp3s on these days, apart from my old legacy recordings on original MDs.
  14. bsandovalb thanks for the tip! I purchased my MZ-RH1 today. The guy in front of me also bought one! But they had a stack of them behind the counter, perhaps 7 or 8? Who knows how many more out back. £250. Great unit and can't wait to test out its recording capabilities.
