  1. Everytime I get close to excited about a DAP, something happens and I lose some stuff forever off my hard drives. I learned finally to back it up, but its a pain. I've never lost anything off a MD and only had one disc (pre recorded) that didnt play right. Having said all that, I wish I didnt have a box of MDs to deal with every time I want to find something
  2. I'll chime in only to add that sadly, I agree. MD and HiMD are done... for now
  3. Just wondered if anyone here had or still collected pre recorded MD's. I had a good number of them both US and japanese releases but got rid of them when I made my fatal switch to IPod a few years back. Now that I'm back to MD's I wish I'd kept them
  4. Like a recovery group for lost MDsters. Welcome back
  5. Thanks for the tip , I just ordered one!
  6. There are a bunch of folks still using MD and HI MD for both pro and fan applications. I think someone will pick up the torch, they still make reel to reel tapes so I figure a market still exists for this format as well. Sony, I fiigure will try to force its hand to get MD users to switch to flash units
  7. Sorry, I should have read all the responses. Thanks
  8. If it were me, I'd be asking am I going to stay with Hi MD for the next ?? years. If you are going to be in it for a while yet, maybe a PC is a better bet-though I run MAC for everything but music downloads ( I record with Logic Pro and use garageband for demos). In the back ( or maybe even the front ) of my mind, I figure a suitable (HiMd sound and easy to use) PMP will come along and I may make the switch. For what you describe, you COULD go mac and use the same programs I use and it would be a lot easier, then you have to consider the back catalogue you have acquired of recordings you've already made. In the end its back to where I started. How long are you going to be using the HiMD platform?
  9. I have a good portion of everything i own on Itunes on m Mac. I convert the files and then download th´albums, eps or playlists as a unit and it show up same on the MD
  10. The RH1 does show track titles on the remote
  11. Not that I cant get them online, but I've been swooping down from the Rockies here to foothils towns to snatch up the MDs left at any Best Buy store I find. They all say they arn't getting any more in. Got 20 more gold discs today
  12. Incredible piece about the Microsoft technology, which makes me wonder, all the more, why none of these flash players sound as good as my MD's. Is it that they can;'t or they just don't put the resources in that direction as they figure consumer want more gadgets?
  13. You're older than me? Is that possible?
  14. The sound is supurb as you put it, whch is why i continue with the relative complexity of mini disc over flash or hard drive players. When they come up with a flash player that sounds as good as Hi Md, i'll have to think about it-though I would still keep my MDs as back ups. I hear the new Sony 8 gb player that is not out in the US yet is very very good. I'm going to check it out when it gets here-if it gets here, but only as an addition to my digital players
  15. I will need that remote as well. My tired old eyes don't get it with the tiny one that comes with the RH1
  16. My mistake. it was set at 48 not 44 and now it works WOW! Thanks all!!!!
  17. Yes I am, is that the problem?
  18. Again, thanks for your help. I tried your instructions to little avail. The Hi Md Transfer icon disappears when it starts the download and the icon on finder (in apps) does not offer a choice of eject. I did try to close the Hi Md transfer program and a "no name" drive showed up, I control clicked it and it offered eject, which i did but that didnt work either. Hmmm
  19. First off , sorry for the loose terminology and second, thanks for your help. Ok,, here is what I have done. I have the new software 2.0 I am trying to download WAV files from the mac to the RH-1 HiMD unit. First, I creat Wav files by uploading a CD in WAV mode to the computer Then I attach teh Rh-1 to the computer. The HD MUSIC TRANSFER screen appear and I drag the WAV files (no the ITunes file) to the HD MUSIC TRANSFER and it seems to be ok. When done it asks that I stop the unit and eject the disc, which I do. After reinserting the disc, its does something to the files and then stops. I the attempt to play the disc and it reads "cannot play" This process works fine with MP3 files I should add.
  20. After repeatedly tries, I cannot get the Hi Md function on MAC to successfully record. That is, it records. I stop the disc and eject it as it asks but when I try to play it back, it says ''cannot play" . On a positive note, on my wifes PC the simple burner works great and i can get great quality HI MD PCM recordings, whcih is why I wanted the unit to begin with. If only I could get the MAC to work with WAV (it does work with MP3). Any thoughts?
  21. On the other hand, there is no flash player out there that comes close to the sound quality of a Hi-MD PCM disc. If sound quality is important, you can't beat Hi-MD for a portable medium
  22. My inclination is to agree, even though I have just returned to the format after three years of I-Podness. I am inclined to grab a few more units and lots of blanks. If Sony had come up with a better option or even a groundbreaking flash unit, I'd feel a little better but they seem to have simply become another Apple chaser...
  23. I remember being in Toyko during the cassette years. There was an area that had at least a city block of small venders selling mostly electronics in a street fair like atmosphere. I was in heaven. I never saw so many cassette players in one place, most of which I'd never seen in the USA
  24. Thanks for your imput. Rigt now I'm loading as mp3 files so they can fit on standard MD disks as I like the 2 bucks a disc cost, but I will play with the Wav on Hi Md discks and see if the sound improvement is worth it. Any other thoughts are appreciated
  25. Thanks for the news, not bad, just not ideal. On that thought-if I had a net md machine and used a PC, can i do quick downloads to standard MD and, if so, are there any downsides to that. Thanks for your help
