    RH1 Troubles

After much ado and some research, I bought a A818 awhile back. It has gret sound for a DAP but still no match for MD or HiMD
  3. If I knew the unit was built like a 2000 k machine, id think about it, but it looks like more fashion and less function
  4. Sorry, I'm holding off on Leopard until they work out the bugs
  5. Too bad, I wouldn't mind hearing that Twang concert myself.
  6. Those wheels scare me,, dont use mine at all. In fact, the 700 is my backup and it seems very shabby compared to the RH1
  7. Yeah, thats likely closer to the reality of it
  8. Can you believe that 12,000 pople have read this thread?

    RH1 Troubles

Now this I find interesting. You have been a strong advocate for MD and though I now you are geeked about the PCM-D50, you're willing to let go a RH1 for it. How are you gonna transfer on Mac without it? Is this a sign your preparing to bail on the format?

    RH1 Troubles

It makes me nervous to hear all these RH1 issues. Mine (knock on wood) has been fine, taken a number of spills and still plays and works like new. Maybe I better think twice about using it in m car, on walks etc
  11. I agree, I'd send it back and tell em to fix it right

    Fickle Discs

Got to agree, I am in th Rocky Mountains and up to about 6000 feet, which in and of itself is no issue, but the cold does it in so I keep MD indoors in the winter
  13. Yeah, I wondered how you did that myself, so I guess I was a sucker too
  14. True enough about the price. I gotta say, even with my collection of discs and players, I keep looking for new stuff. I bought a Sony 810 about a month ago and am very impressed with the sound quality but the 8 gigs is nowhere near enough and the small screen aint happening for video so its a music player only for me. Funny thing is, a week after I bought it, my IPod finally died. I had come to only use it for podcast and audio books as the quality of the sound was too hard to take. My external drive died a few days ago and now Im glad I made copies of all my music on MD and CD. Now its a new crossroads I am at as I try to figure out what to do next...
  15. Being the curious sort, I''m the kind of guy that might buy a pack of these just to see if there is a difference. Having said that, I use Sony Premium Gold discs almost exclusively. If you scoop for em, let us know...
  16. You are right,, there are les MD decks and more MD owners are keeping them
  17. I was waiting for something like this, or the old 45 players that were in select cars in the 50's..
  18. If I could have strapped a turntable on my back, none of this cassette/ MD/CD//MP3 stuff would have ever happened for me.
  19. Can't tell you in a technical sense, but it sounds fuller and warmer to me. I grew up on vinyl and reel to reel,, so with that benchmark I have yet to hear anything digital to come close to that.. Even high end CD players still have that coldness and tire my ears after say an hour of listening. Having said that, real time transfers alwasy seem to ahve more of that warmth than high speed downloads. Like everyone else, I prefer to do a quick transfer, but for vinyl I of course go real time and the result is always enjoyable
  20. I think the issue is more finding one for sale than how much they cost. When I see them for sale, they are all around list price, not surprising given they arn't likely fast sellers. I think we are a committed ( maybe we should BE) group but still small in the scheme of things
  21. I recorded a number of high quality Wav based Hi MD discs when I first got the RH1. The sound quality is great but when I tried to upload them to my Mac it was a no go. I have forsaken that so as to have a back up to my hard drive that i can easily access. Also, the 5 bucks a pop for the discs is hard on my wallet
  22. WOW! Those are nice. Thanks to everyone for the tips
  23. I have come to the conclusion that my real time recordings actually sound better , to my ears ,than downloads. Especially the stuff I take off vinyl
