harvester45
Raja, Have you ever thought about just taking the front and back off of your black 900, and swapping them with a fully functional silver 900? That would solve your problem pretty well, I think. I've had every unit I own (except my deck) open multiple times, and they still work correctly (unless they were broken before). You've just gotta take your time and not force anything to move if it doesn't want to.I actually haven't had this button problem with my 900, but I do have it with the Sony headunit in my car. Sometimes the buttons will all switch functions, so the off button won't work, volume changes the track, etc. I don't know if it's a physical or electronic problem, but ejecting the disc (even if I'm not listening to one), will usually fix it. The problem only comes up sometimes, but it's enought to frustrate me. If anybody figures this out, I'd love to hear what the cause is. It's not fun to be beta testerswith every expensive crap sony is throwing out. I mean, this is about basicfunctions of an old inventions ! Buttons !! Well enough complaining, can't be helped, I give up with sony they are lost.
rayzray
ok;; i have the TWO Sony Hi-MD900's one without the button problem and one with the button problem.it's fweaken aggrivating to be in a hurry;; press a button; and sit there WONDERING if the unit will respond.that with all the other antics Sony pulls on us cost them $1,500.00.. IMO..i (rayzray am in the market for a Digital DVD Camcorder;; and Sony has a nice big one; but i will be damned if i will buy the Sony one; WONDERING ((((IF)))) i will have that "Button PRoblem" with the camcorder.so i am favoring the Panasonic model; and probably gonna get the Pana; all because of that stupid button problem; AND all the "Clown-like" antics Sony pulls on us; and their willingness to just "Walk-out" on a product!!!! (Suggestion and well as questions ) )That's an excellent suggestion... and with all the detailed NH900 volume cap HACK in this forum, there should be a way to reset... anyone?? The Low Volta
I did try the simple reset (removing all the power sources for about a minute) but it didn't help... perhaps a more thorough reset (through the service menu) would do the trick (Sony did manage to 'repair' my NH900, so they had to do something, why not a reset?)... is there anything like that mentioned in the service manual? AVITWeb
Where did you get that black beauty??1) Color matters to ME.LOOK at just how beautiful a my black NH900 is:2) I've thought about how I can still use it, but it can't be used as a "player" since it won't STOP when I want it to... it could be used as a permanent 'downloader' PC hook-up, but I'm already using my first NH900 (that I've dropped a few times) for that. Plus it would barely be visible, and I want to show off this pretty unit.

theblueraja
Where did you get that black beauty??How I got that unit is a LONG, complicated story (or at least the process was), but I'll make it short: I found it on the Amazon.co.uk Marketplace second hand. I had to have it shipped to someone in the UK who then forwarded to me.And yes, I have a second one on the way... the one I currently own has the button glitch. AVITWeb
sweet!!Well I just did it...I bought a NH900...I decided to make the move to HIMD with this one cause it seems the way to go for this...Plus it was in a bundle and i got a carrying case, mic, and some blanks. Not a bad deal....And if I continue with the media (which I think I will..been two years now and still going) I may get the RH1 eventually.....You guys know if the NH900 Australia has any limitations like the dreaded vol cap from the European models?>
rayzray
you are gonna love it; i got 2; best thing i did for myself in years; and, i can use it personally or professionally, and it can by another audio source for my A/V project.it's by "Berlin Wall" when i want to segrigate myself from the rest of the world; or a conversation piece; (like i love to challenge i-poders in a recording contest) i blow them away every time.very smart with the "bundle" ; a good way to get a new one; i hate used ones.i am interested in a Rh1; but leary cause of Sony's reputation; they have to convince and prove to me this RH1 is worth it.i have place in my life for another one.oh; where did you get yours; they have some here in RI at the Guitar Center stores; as far as last month; that is.you have a good head on your shoulders; now if Sony can screw their head back on! AVITWeb
yeah....$250 for unit, mic, larger carrying case (holds player, phones, and 12 discs) and some blanks...the mic and case made the deal for me!The guitar centers out here (NJ/PA) only have he MZ-M100 bundle for $399...wasn't worth it my opinion (for me anyway) when I can get a new one online for at about $50 less. AVITWeb
You know...that makes me think...is the usb on the units powered? I mean I know it would probably totally eat battery life in seconds, but would one of those usb flexible lights work if you were to plug it into the unit???If you could find a way to power it portably...that would be interesting. I'm not sure what you mean by "usb flexible lights" but based on what you said it sounds like there's such a thing as mobile (blue tooth) usb?Keep in mind, if you don't have an NH900 you will be surprised by the battery life (with regular playback, not recording). Very long life.

AVITWeb
Good to know guys....No I was talking about the lights that get power from notebooks specifically...its not possible to do what I was thinking because the USB on the unit probably doesn't put out much power at all i would assume.
