What Kind Of Mobile Phone Do You Have?

I don't believe a thread such as this exists here..

What kind of mobile phone do you have [and what modifications have you done]? Who is your provider [and plan, if you wish to indulge]?

I just joined up with Cingular and purchased a Motorola MPX220, a very intelligent smartphone with features such as miniSD compatibility [up to 1gb memorystick], bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel cam, and so much more. I'm really excited to step away from this horrible Sony Ericsson T610 I've been using for the last year and a half. Plus - I'm free from T-Mobile! Thank the heavens.

My company provides me with my phones. It's an older Motorola v60i that doesn't charge the battery very well. I've got to really fidget with it to get it to charge. I'm getting a new T-Mobile phone through work to replace this one, but I don't know what model it'll be.

Ah well, it's not like the end of the world or anything. wink.gif By the by, ever seen this? Very interesting, and kinda scary. Sometimes I wonder about the harmful effects of such..

p.s. I also purchased my girlfriend a Nextel i860. She has it now and it's really awesome. When I get my new phone in a few days I'll take some pictures of each for comparison picture quality purposes.

Congrats! That's quite a phone. As for phones, I am still a SE "sucker"... hehe... just updated to the P910. smile.gif

Well here in Australia we have really shit plans/prices for not only mobile phones but for broadband internet and cable TV as well :@

I have a Nokia 3200 on Pre-Paid with Virgin Mobile. 4 months Old

I don't really have any special features except for an infra-red device which can plug into my pc via USB so that it enables my PC to have infra-red and so I can transfer pics and music to a from my mobile to pc.

I really would like to get this phone though! LG U8120 because of its better and newer features! tongue.gif

I just have a Nokia 8310, on the o2 network prepaid - I seem to get unlimited GPRS for free, never made any enquiries as to why, lol

I bought a replacement black cover for it on ebay for £1.20

that's about it! smile.gif

Wow, now that is a phone! If you don't mind me asking, who is your provider and how much did you spend on that sucker? Additionally, tell me more about your setup. Do you have a big memory stick? Do you use the camcorder? Do you use Opera made for it? Was it worth the $? etc

I subscribe to Cingular and received the phone as a Christmas gift from my parents. My setup is pretty much simple - coupled with Sony Ericsson's HBH-600 Akono Bluetooth headset. It's a decent headset, but battery life is somewhat low. I have to recharge every 12hrs. As for memory stick, I employ the DUO PRO 1GB.

Haven't really gotten to use the camera, but I suspect that there are better phone-camera megapixels than the P910. The Opera seems to run faster with the P910 compared to my friend's P900. This is because of the increased in memory. I personally love the form factor of the P910 - it's definitely an improvement over the P900. Since I moved from the T616 to a P910, it's definitely worth the upgrade but would remain indifferent if I owned the P900. However, the memory upgrade done on the P910 is definitely a plus.

Cool beans, Ishi. I'd love to just see that phone IRL.

Nice phone, ROM..that's actually a pretty popular phone around here..

I recieved my MPX220 today - free overnight shipping from Cingular! I haven't even activated it yet, but the functionality of Windows Smartphone is pretty impressive! It's still doing the inital charge, but periodically I'll lose my patience, turn it on and play with some of the features. I'll mess with it more tonight and post back with some impressions! Very impressed/excited/content so far..

Are there any health risks associated with such?

btw, MPX220 with 512mb miniSD card = good.gif

..but unfortunately, I have to return the phone as it's employing oooooooold firmware [.325 whilst 1.3 is the current] with a big bug related to the mic and volume; it's like talking through a pillow. Collectively, I've spent about 7 hours on the phone with Cingular [mostly on hold] trying to get this issue squared away. They should be sending me a new phone asap, but still, this has been one of the worst customer service experiences in my life.

Nokia 3595, it's terrible and I painted the face plate black!

I am thinking about getting an unlocked Nokia 3300 to replace the 3595.

It's got mp3 and AAC compatibility, I can think I can throw tracks from iTunes into it for use as ringtones. It's cheap and won't extend my contract.

From there I think I'll wait out my contract with Rogers "At&t" wireless, and see where this Motorola + Apple iTunes phone goes.

Are there any health risks associated with such?

I read that tumor or cancerous cells may develop as a result of long term radiation emitting from the cell phone - especially with older cell phones where it usually emits radiation exceeding that 1.6W/kg guidelines.

Better to be safe than sorry; and the Bluetooth headset is kind of convenient and stylish. smile.gif

Update: Getting a new MPX220 and free case on Monday. Unfortunately, I had to shell out another $300 for the replacement phone, which they'll refund when they recieve my old one. Here's the kicker - a firmware updating utility was released THE SAME FREAKING DAY I ORDERED A NEW ONE, no more than a few hours after in fact.

Lame, lame, lame.

I currently use a SE T637. One of my favorite phones to date. Bluetooth just works on SE's... great reception everywhere I go, small, eye-catching. smile.gif OK, so camera isn't great, but I don't use it much. I have service with Cingular and my company pays for it - the best of all worlds!

I would love to upgrade to the SE S710a, if it's ever released by SE/Cingular. Lots o' features and fun. http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=602

doclloyd I went to a Sony Member party, and that was one of the phones they had on display! It looked awsome! (SE S710a)

Basically designed around the Sony Cyber shot camera, but a mobile phone as well!

Would love to have it. It has a huge screen, and really good functions as you say!

2-or-more year old Nokia 3390 or whatever, it's a brick phone. It came in this horrendous gold colour and I painted it black...now it's this cool crackle finish, but there's too much gold at the top so I'm going to repaint it soon. Anyway, I'm using t-mobile and their service is good although if there's not coverage in a certain area...there is no coverage, they don't have roaming I don't think, so you're out sad.gif

None. And boy am I glad. Sweet peace and quiet. I have an IP phone used only for receiving calls, though.

But my brother has one of them Nokias from Cricket. Boy I hate it when we sit down to play some Xbox, and a brainless twit calls him to ask stupid questions. I'm sorry for whoever will become his GF/Wife.

I seem to be one of the few on SprintPCS. Signed on back in 2000 with them (only one i trusted back then)... current phone is a Sanyo MM7400, which I like. I was going to hold out for a phone with miniSD slot and better camera, but then i realized--- I really could care less about those things, I barely use my phone as it is! But as far as phones go it's the best I've ever had-- great reception can call quality (what phones are for, right?)

Only thing it could use is bluetooth for a headset, but like i said-- i barely use it, it'd just be a frill. It's terrible to be a gadget freak...

What is the major flaw of the SE t610 Chris?

I'm looking at one on Ebay and my friend's phone is pretty nice, what are you gripes?

Just didn't do anything for me, and as I live out in the boonies the call reception was not that great. I can't speak for all areas, but I do know that reception with this phone isn't always the best, but it really depends on where you live. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice phone and has a ton of functionality. It was probably one of the most popular cell phones for about two years but things have evolved since then. I evolved too, I suppose.

I'm definitely content with my second MPX220, has the 1.3 firmware natively and this model actually seems to have better build quality. MiniSD on this thing rocks, it's really nice to have the option to take extremely long videos without concern for anything but battery and having the option to snap more than 500+ pics, use it as a mp3/wma/etc player, chock it full of cool applications, and so much more. I am extremely impressed with Microsoft's smartphone. They've really come a long way..

Of course you wouldn't use your cell phone as a dedicated mp3 player, but.... the question still nags at me, how does mp3 playback sound? Hehe... my Pocket PC sounds pretty decent were it not for the occassional background noise. Same problem there though-- battery life.

I was actually very tempted by the Treo 650-- it's relatively small for a pda-phone. If I didn't already have a PPC I might have gone for it.

I need to buy a 2.5mm > 3.5mm converter for further analysis, but through the speaker on the phone it's very clear and details are impossible to avoid. *.wma's and *.wav's seem much better for playback, however.

Windows smartphone comes with Media Player natively and there are other music playing/manipulation programs that I'm looking into. I will post more about this as I delve deeper, but this is a clear indication that phones with memory stick slots could be the next big thing in the portable music playing sense, espesically as high density flash media prices fall each month.

The main issue I see is battery life... but if you're just listening here and there and can charge it frequently then maybe that won't be as big of deal... still, I couldn't rely on my phone for music... tongue.gif

Nah, the MPX220 comes with a USB charger that doubles as an activesync connection.

I'm messing with movies instead of music now actually, with a program called Betaplayer. I've already used PocketDivxEncoder to convert a 45 megabyte *.avi file into a resolution suitable for the phone [which also made it 23 megs instead], yet still in *.avi format. It's very cool to watch videos, and the hit on battery life seems to be not that bad. Next up I shall try converting Empire Strikes Back onto phone..hopefully it'll fit on my 512mb card. wink.gif

No lag with this PQI miniSD card, but I've heard bad things about Kingston and Sandisk in regards to speed with videos. It really looks awesome, I wish I could show you guys in person.
