Several online places claim they have the MZ-M100 and MZ-M10 "in stock". Has anyone actually seen one yet?

I have one, and the software. Loaded it on my Mac powerbook. Looks like pretty simple hack. I would hope they'll do a Mac version of SonicStage, or iTunes integration or something.

I have not tried uploading a sound file because of my life interfering. But the instruction book says it works only with MDs recorded with the MZ-M100. It also works only with PCM, but that's fine since I'd be using it for live recording applications anyway.

umm ... everyone gets tricked into using inferior products (vhs/betamax and vhs is still being sold so that would make it alomst 30 it was introduced in 1976 and it was an INFERIOR product so thats my first point).

That is one of the most persistent urban myths in the world of technology. But it is just that: A myth.

Here's some reading material ("Why VHS was better than Betamax"):

http://www.guardian.co.uk/online/comment/s...,881780,00.html

In this article, you also have the point about the "whole product" - which is very interesting, and which shows why people often adopt the kind of the techology that they do:

"Let's take a simple example: digital audio tape (Dat). Get someone to compare Dat with a humble C90 compact cassette and they will find Dat to be technologically superior, especially for recording music. However, if you consider "the whole product", Dat is vastly inferior for most people most of the time. This is why people still buy millions of cassettes, while Dat has virtually disappeared from consumer use."

If you get this, you will understand why so many people buy iPod instead of for example minidiscs - which may, or may not, sound better than the iPod, but is still inferior in terms of the "whole product" (because of the factors mentioned below).

The iPod is an inferior product and millions have been tricked. I will qualify this statement like this, look at a MD Recorder, it is in many ways better than an iPod save for the capcity of the storage medium (on hand, but if i buy 61 HiMD's I win on that but then i loose in terms of size(portability) and how much money I have spent), and ill give you the benefit of the doubt and say the UI may be better (with the scroll whee) and thats where it ends.

I don't see one single argument *against* the iPod in this paragraph. On the contrary. What I do see, however, is you giving the iPod hands up in terms of storage (significant), cost (significant) and portability (significant) - and the UI (significant).

Having all your music with you so that you have the option of listening to it is an error on all those who use iPods and have been fed this lie, im sure you would like to know what im talking about well, its very simple having 60gb of music with you and only being able to listen to 15hrs (and im being GENEROUS with that number) the ability to listen to "ALL" you music dimishes, so the fact that you have the option is null becuse when your battery dies those options that you have with your VAST library are now zero.

You're being very incoherent, but it seems that what you are saying is that the 20, 40 or 60 gigabyte are worthless because of the 15 hour battery time?!

Interesting.

The point of having so much storage space is CHOICE, first and foremost. It's very convenient when you are leaving for work in the morning, and don't have to browse through all your CDs or minidiscs to find something to listen to. It's very convenient when you travel, because, as you mentioned above, don't have to bring along dozens and dozens of minidiscs or CDs. It's very convenient if you decide that the first or second or third album you are listening to this morning is not tasty - and so you can switch to something else. It's also very convenient if you want to mix, say, 60 albums together with random play.

You may or may not like all of these features, but please don't be so ignorant, arrogant and even stupid as to claim that those who value these features have been tricked or duped.

However apple was able to convince the world that "having it with you, is better than listening to it".  Just becuase you have 15000 songs doesnt mean you can listen to them whenever you choose.

Yes, that's exactly what it does! You are, for some ridiculous reason, using the limited time of 15 hours as an argument against the storage space. That's moronic. Even with a 100 hour battery time you would be able to "argue" the same thing, which makes the this whole thing reductio ad absurdum.

If I can only listen to 1 in every 50 songs without having to worry about my next charge thats assinine. To assume I would take such a loss just for the sake of saying I have my entire music collection with me is limited. I dont know about you but i wouldnt pay $450 for a product that doesnt provide as much music as another format and then PROCLAIM its NOT inferior.

According to your twisted logic: At what point would you say that the iPod could be considered worthy of your attention? 30 hour battery time? 60? 120? 300?

Would you say that my mobile phone is an inferior product to my telephone at home, because I can only talk for about 3-4 hours on my cell phone? Are cell phone makers "tricking" their customers into buying a product that's inferior, because you can't talk for 10 hours? 20 hours? Or because the standby time is ONLY four or five days, even though you are going on a holiday for 10 days?

Ok, honestly, if there is one more post that is off topic, then I will disable un-moderated posting for everyone who contributed to the fight.

Take it somewhere else, I'm looking for news about the Mac compatible HiMD's and you guys are flooding the thread.

HiMD isn't inferior, the iPod isn't inferior. They both have their selling points and if you can't see that then you are being children.

This is your last warning in regards to this thread.

Thank you.

Anyone discussing this matter with oivindi any further will take it to private messages. These outbursts are completely unacceptable, and if they continue they will be deleted. Just make a thread in the appropriate forum (like off topic, or hi-/md criticisms) and beat each other up there.

jwbry, please check your private messages.

I'd like to provide you with a screenshot of the "Hi-MD Wav Importer".

I do not own a mac nor a MZ-M10 / MZ-M100 so there is no way to try out what a connected MZ-M10 / MZ-M100 or MZ-NH1 would allow me to do.

Just see this as a start, I'm sure Kurisu will have more detailed informations for you soon.

Indeed, I will be releasing the program and a review of it this weekend. Stay tuned.

Kurisu, I'm wondering if follow-up info on this thread was posted elsewhere...can't find any.

I'm also anxiously following the Sony news thread, waiting for the next shoe to drop about the whole MD thing...and curious about whether the Sony Pro Audio MD units will be similarly sh..-canned.

In the meantime, I have a kid who is a college musician, and I'd like to buy him an upgraded MD recorder for X-mas. He uses a MAC iBook, and has an older MD recorder (don't know the model) which he uses to record rehearsals of himself and his brass quintet. My choices are either the MZ-10 or MZ-100 Pro Audio units, or a regular Hi-MD unit, and an external Griffin USB sound "card". If I were to upgrade him to one of the Pro Audio MD units, he could upload his recordings to his iBook, and edit, distribute, & burn them to CDs, etc.

 ...and in so doing, I could probably slip a new MZ-RH10 past the Spousal Unit for myself as a backup for the say when my NH900 dies...
