How Scratch-Resistant is NH1?

I thought I'd better ask first before learning it the rough way.

Since my NH1 is used (almost) exclusively for recording lectures, what I usually do is put the NH1, connected with the remote and Sony Mic. altogether into the small pouch carrying case.

Therefore when it's in my bag, those little parts will move around in the pouch and scratching each other.

I know that there is no pointy metal material there, being the mics and remote is made from hard plastic, but do you think the NH1 body can still get scratch from friction with the remote/mic?

Any inputs from fellow NH1 users here?

If there is a chance it might be scratched, then that means its time for me to get a special MD bag then (which I prefer not to, since I don't have much money at the moment, and it might be a bit bulky).

Yeh, My MZ-NH1, has been many places, by itself, open in bags, jean pockets, hands, thrown on beds, left on slide across desks... No scratches what so ever to report, and say you get your fingernail, and just run it across the NH1 metal, all you do it just wipe the mark off, and it is gone! tongue.gif

But those things (pockets, desks, nails) are not metal...

Have anyone actually put the NH1 in the same pocket with keys, and it survived scratches?

I may be a bit paranoid, but I am afraid that the metal grill on the mic might scratch the surface...

My NH1 has a scratch sad.gif My husband made it on it while trying to connect the usb-cable. He said it was just a tiny touch from the plug (that's metal) at the back of the unit, but in certain light you can see it very well... If it's true what he says, then maybe the NH1 isn't as scratch-resistant as many say unsure.gif

My NH1 took two spills from my pocket when getting out of my car and landed on concrete once and blacktop the other time. All it has to show for it is a minor corner scuff. It's a hell of alot more resistant to scratching, etc than the RH10 is. The LCD plastic is also harder than the RH10 plastic. I've had the NH1 in pockets, in my backpack unprotected, etc and have no scratches on the LCD plastic. It's a pretty resilient machine.

just put the player in a separate bag. Check the mdcas3 from sony, very nice, comfortable, and only 10 dollars or something. I used to put the recorder and the earphones/remote in one bag , all together. So ... I got scratches (I own a mznh900 and the front face is made of aluminium = mznh1)

Maybe put the MD in the Mic pouch bad if it came with one... or just buy a thing lether case for the MD or something....

If you really don't want to get it scratched, then buy a case for each piece of equipment you have... and you won't have to worry.

I wouldn't worry so much about the scratching....just about any MD unit can be scratched if the conditions are right. My NH1 does have two tiny nicks, but it doesn't impede its performance in any way. The remote, with it's large almost flat plastic surface, is easily scratched. I also have a DR7 which anyone familiar with that model will tell you it's built like a tank. But it has a lot of tiny scratches on it even though I'm pretty careful.

Take a look here if you want something custom made to protect an NH1:

I don't mind if the remote got scratched, as long as the body is not.

I was thinking to get a case from minidisc.com.au,

Is there any recommendation on which one to get that will fit NH1, the remote and the mic?

I won't be needing space for extra MD disc though, only those 3 stuffs...

Generally speaking, it's much more scratch and scuff resistant than the RH units. It is also fairly tough, at least from my empirical evidence.

Of my two units, one was more well worn (got it in a unit swap) and has two small dings. No problems on the said unit however, plays and behaves well, as if it were new.

My second unit has several scratches and very small dents. All of them, in a small coincidence (or not) are on the back of the unit. This one has been in my pocket with my numerous keys, and I figure the keys were responsible for the dings and scratches. However, they remain invisible until held at an angle, and while doing so, you need to actively look for them.
