Human
Hi , -I like to ask owners of Hi-MD RH10 model couple of questions, Please:1]. so far do You still like the unit, are there any specific mechanical problems with them.2]. Do I understand this correctly - that via line 'in' I can record (from any source) = / from the radio, cassette tape, CD player, other MD deck, microphone / = I be able to record only in Hi-SP mode. The other modes of recording are possible only via computer ? , is that correct ?3]. Is there something wrong with the whole line of RH10 models.?The reason I'm asking this is that at the Sony store they told me that they will have them in February 2006, - nothing for the Holiday season sales. Is this not strange a bit, - is there are some kind of problem that they (Sony) are fixing - and this is the reason for lack of the units in stores ?4]. What do You think about durability of RH10 model, is it build to last a bit in Your opinion.I'm thinking of getting RH10, but like to make sure that I'm making right choice. What do You think about Cheeers, ...... Richard
2]. The other modes of recording are possible only via computer ? , is that correct ?I don't own an RH10 so I can only respond to question 2. Via Line-In on this model you can record in PCM, Hi-SP (256), and Hi-LP (64).Other bitrates are only available via computer yes.
Continuity
By your profile you seem to be in Canada. Don't be surprised for the Sony Stores, the ones in Montreal have just started getting 2nd edition players like the RH-10. For some reason, when they started getting them here in Montreal, Sony only sent them 1 unit of each model. If it sells out, they won't have anything for a while. Don't know why this is, honestly I don't. This is according to the reps at seperate stores.Mine has been working fine for quite some time, got it from Minidisc Canada. No complaints on this side. Mechanically it's working fine. Was worried about the finish, thought it would be as fragile to scratches as the plastic screen on my 40ELK remote. Isn't the case, seems a lot more resistant.Battery was worrying me for a bit there, the gumstick seemed very strange in the way it reacted to charging and how long it would last. Once you have charged and uncharged it completely a few times it becomes very stable.Same with the lid... I would eject a disc at first and it would not pop out completely, the lid would only open halfway. Had to do the rest manually. This is another strange situation that went away after usage. (A few dozen ejects and it started working like a charm)A Mem here called Blueraja posted some pics of his RH-10 after about a year of everyday use. It's in one of the reviews in the "Reviews" section on this board in an answer to someone else's review of their RH-10. Looks great to me, I will be happy if it looks that good after all that time.It feels pretty solid all in all. It is so beautiful though that you will most likely baby it a while. If you don't want to pay the extra 100 CAD$ for that screen, you can buy the RH-910 for the same with a standard LCD display.

Great price. They have also tons of blue Maxells. I stick to gold Sony, but maybe Maxell are very good also. I have 4 more weeks to make up mind as to what to get from Sony - (I have $ 300.00 of credit) - but I will not be able to exchange if I don't like what I chose.I was even considering to get DNE20 MP3/ATRAC3™ CD Walkman or DNE920.I have Sony MDS-JE470 deck and love MD format, and portable would be nice addition. And more I think, more I realize I do not really need Hi-MD recorder, I just need good player, preferably with great 'line out' to listen most of the time via speakers.I'm reading that some people do not like the sound quality coming from headphone jack to speakers,(with Equalizer Off, and volume to Max). NH900 would be great (it has line out that apparently is not affecting sound quality coming via headphone jack) but it is so hard to find brand new model.I have to check other Sony Hi-MD players/only models with good "line out".I'm starting to look at Sharp MDs, but looks that they don't have Hi-MD models, I like the idea of Hi-SP mode for great sound quality and capacity. Some of the Sharp models have true line out.1]. Please tell me how did You like dealing with Minidisc Canada. 2]. Did the unit arrived in original packaging with proper manual. 3]. Was everything included in the package as advertised on their web site. Thanks a lot, ...... Edited December 6, 2005 by Human
Susie h
My RH10 has had one problem in the 7 months that I've had it. The eject function has stopped working so the lid opens fine but the MD doesn't pop out. I'll get round to sending it off for repair or replacement at some stage before the 12 months are up Apart from that its been a fantastic unit. I covered the screen as soon as I got it with a piece of PDA screen cover for protection as I'd heard that they scratch easily.
milomind
I have had mine since the launch, and it works like it did when I first got it. Battery life is a bit suspect in the recording department, so you may want to get spare gumsticks or use the auxilliary battery case when you record for any more than an hour. I don't recommend using the power cord to record. I had some artifacts come out of a recording once, and I really think it was the cord. If reasonable care is given to the case of the RH10, scratches won't be a problem. I don't have a single one on mine. I have used my RH10 to record TV using the line in, and record a four person podcast, using three two way splitters run into the mic jack. Believe it or not, it sounds great. Continuity
No problem, glad I could help.Minidisc Canada is great. It did arrive in it's original box, unopened. I had ordered it with a few dozen discs, a spare battery and a few other toys. I got the confirmation email with a Canada Post tracking number 3 hours after placing the order (8PM). Canada Post guy arrived with the package the next morning at 9.Ok, granted, Minidisc Canada seems to be a stone's throw away from where I live. They probably could have just walked over and dropped it off. I deal with them a lot, being one of the online stores that takes Paypal and that the packages do NOT have to go through US customs and delay it for a long long time.Proper manual and all that. Did it come with what was advertised on the site? Actually better really. For the RH-10 www.minidisc-canada.com said it would come with the NH-10WM battery. Hence me requesting the NH-14WM. It actually came with the better battery unlike what the web page said. It's not my first transaction with them, and they haven't let me down.
