RH10 - button problems

ARGH! My RH10 has decided that the fast forward button that's on the unit, not the remote, is now a reverse button periodically. When I press it to advance to the next song I sometimes find that it starts the previous song now. Man, this RH10 is driving me batty. I'm afraid to send it back to Sony considering that previous post where someone sent his in and they charged him $90 instead of $30. I really like my RH10 but this is starting to get irritating. Is there a way to open the sucker so I can "fix" it myself?

I also noticed that on the Sony website that they have the RH910 and the RH1 but not the RH10. Hmmm, I wonder why?

I had a few weird problems with my RH10 buttons periodically (volume would activate search). I'm not sure how it would be fixed, but the service manual should be in the downloads section here if you want to open the unit up and have a peek inside.

PS - If you decide to open it up and look around, could you take some pics?

My RH10s volume up does Menu sometimes as well, its annoying , i think membrane below buttons is goosed. Only way to fix this i suspect is to send to Sony. They would put in a new membrane.

It's reassuring that others are having this problem--my RH10 volume up botton launches search also. I've just learned to live with it, since it seems to be just a minor glitch.

Hello Gents:

I realize I´m a rank beginner in this site, and new to minidiscs in general. I got my fist unit two month´s ago (a MZ-NH700 that was on sale for less than US$ 50 in local currency!) and I got hooked. I just purchased my shiny new RH1 a week ago. This site was a wonderful place to get started in the format!

Anyways, in the past I had lots of similar problems with digital music units (CD, MP3, etc) due to static electricity build-up. Just check if the problem occurs more frequently under dry weather conditions, or when you wear certain clothing with a high percentage of synthetic fibers. If this is the case, then a simple change of clothing or a pouch for your unit might solve your problem. Also check your headphones, sometimes the plastic cord material is more susceptible to transfer static electricity to the player than others.

This probably isn't much consolation, but recently I've been getting intermittent behaviour where holding down the FF button to advance through a track works for a few seconds then throws me back to the beginning of the track. And I also get the occasional "Search" when pressing the Volume control.

If I hadn't my RH1 and NH1 to fall back on I'd be really fed up with this especially as it is out of warranty.

Oh man, you get that FF button glitch too? I get that one all the time also. That's especially annoying when trying to go through commercials on a 55 minute show and I'm 45 minutes into the show...then boom, back to the beginning. At least we can pause the show and fast forward very quickly that way.

To all those that get the volume control = menu glitch, that was what my first RH10 did right out of the box, so I returned it and got the one I'm currently using.

I'm starting to see why Sony might have discontinued this model (along with perhaps the lack of sales on minidiscs in general).

The problems you people are having with the RH10 are, unfortunately, well-known:

http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16703

Even though the NH900 is a pretty sturdy uit, the one I bought in Beijing has a similar (although minor) problem: the STOP button on the unit will often go very wonky - sometimes it will FF to the next track, sometimes it will beep twice as it stops THEN resumes play...etc. Fortunately, when recording STOP always works fine, and the top part of the button (Pause) has no problems.

The RH10 problems are a real shame, because it's an aesthetically beautiful unit. :(

Yeah, it really is a shame considering that when the RH1 first started appearing on this forum, people kept praising the RH10 and some would not stop going on about how much better the RH10 was compared to the RH1. Mr. the-RH1-is-a-bad-player-as-it-has-no-jog-dial-and-can't-display-tracknames comes to mind - lol.
