moeburn
I got a hold of an old MZ-N510, and I'm trying to use a USB cable i found lying around the house for it. The cable looks just like the one here:However, looking at the port, i think the small tab inside the USB port might be bent or broken, because it is on the opposite side. Am I correct, or is this USB port proprietary?
jaylen
I don't think that port is proprietary. I use the same cable for my N505 and NE810, both older, NetMD-capable models like your N510. That cable also fits the NH600D, a Hi-MD NetMD model. A standard USB/Mini-B cable? I understand what you mean and I think you're right that your N510's port might be bent. Edit: Some pics might help confirm though. Good luck. (Edit: lol We all know the cable is not proprietary. I also use it for my WD Passport portable drive.) moeburn
Thanks for the quick replies everyone! It turned out that the person who lent it to me, did so because they bent the little tab inside the USB port and couldn't use it anymore. So i shoved a lock pick in there and bent it back into shape, works great, my first MD!
moeburn
Okay, it appears that in trying to bend the little tab back into place, i actually snapped it off. Does anyone know if its possible to solder a barnacle USB connector onto the minidisc?
Sparda
i dont think that is humanly possible, quite difficult to solder on something so small within those proportions. why not invest in a good usb cable? it will came in handy in the later years. almost all electronics i have use that same cable (mini B ). He/She wants to know if they can replace that broken piece/tab by soldering a barnacle USB connector onto the MD unit instead. So, the USB cable isn't broken. The MD unit is.moeburn: If you're successful, please post those results!
danielbb90
ha, that's kinda funny. sorry. If you want my opinion I say its dead. I doubt you can do that manually. You should contact Sony and (for a fee) see if they could repair it. Or get-yourself a Hi-MD player or a newer Net MD player!
