MZ-RH1 to buy or not

I currently have a MZ-NH900 and two MZ-RH10. It seems as if the mini-disc format is pretty much at the

end of its life and I was wondering if it would be worth it to purchase a MZ-RH1 before they are all gone.

I do not do any live recording just record music from currently owned or borrowed cd's.

It depends how big your collection of MDs is and how much music you already have stuck on MD via SonicStage. Since you already have three units, they are likely to last you a very long time.

The RH1 looks cool and sounds good. But compared to flash mp3 players in its price range, like the Sansa Sandisk E200 series at half the price, the MZ-RH1 is bulkier, holds less music (though of course discs are swappable), is harder to read and is less convenient than drag-and-drop mp3.

The 8GB one is $178 from here--http://www.thenerds.net/index.php?page=esearch&keyword=sansa&action=Query&p=3 and lower capacity is even cheaper; do you really need more than 4GB? As a bonus, it's not an iPod (and I played it side-by-side with a Nano, and it sounds better).

Personally, I would not get another minidisc unit just as a player, particularly when you already have enough to last.

I also have the feeling my own RH-1 will be my last minidisc recorder. By the time I wear it out, there will undoubtedly be a flash recorder that works better and doesn't have SonicStage encryption hassles.

On the other hand, there is no flash player out there that comes close to the sound quality of a Hi-MD PCM disc. If sound quality is important, you can't beat Hi-MD for a portable medium

I agree. For me (besides the recording (and PCM uncomressed quality recording) capability), the MD is still superior in audio quality. it is one of the few media players allowing playing in multiple compression ratio, from PCM to lossless-ATRAC to lossy ATRAC and MP3.

Well I finally decided to bite the bullet and order an RH1. Minidisco had three left this morning so I thought I might as well

order one before they are gone. They had 10 on hand when I first checked and since I am not sure they will get more I thought I would take the plunge!!

Get the 40ELK remote to go with it , you will love it the first time you use it , (Looks cool to)

I will need that remote as well. My tired old eyes don't get it with the tiny one that comes with the RH1

So, why use a remote at all?? The panel on the RH1 is luminescent and easily readable. I get by fine without mine remote. I like to keep it as simple as possible. And I'm older than you.

Cheers B)

The handy remote is one big plus for MD/HiMD over most other PMP, say, Ipod. I always find it amusing seeing people walking and holding their I-whatever since they have otherwise no way to control it.
