andyschest
I bought my first MD, an MZ-N1, from E-bay and, on arrival, it basically doesn't work. When I attempt to play a disc, I get a read error. When I attempt to record, I get a record error. When I try to connect to my PC, it is often not recognised as being connected and when eventually it is recognised, I get a 'no media' error. Is this player a dud or does anyone think it's possible to fix it?The seller, of previous good repute, has now unregistered from E-bay and is not co-operating. If it's dead, is there a market for accessories like the charging cradle, remote, optical lead etc. so that I can try to get some money back? All advice gratefully received. raintheory
if you can get in contact with someone else here with that unit, you can check and compare the service mode settings. if someone accidentally messed with them previously that could cause similar things.alternately it could be a hardware issue that would most likely not be worth repairing. KJ_Palmer
The charging cradle's only good for the N1, though the other accessories - remote, AA battery holder, adapter, optical cable etc. can be used with many (though not all) portable MD units. andyschest
Thanks everyone. I guess I'll just put this one down to experience. On the plus side, I replaced it with an NH700 which I am very pleased with.

andyschest
I swear your avatar is the same pattern as my mums favorite microwave cookware...It could be if she's had it since the early 70's. The pattern is called Gaytime and it appeared on cookware sets. And I've only got it on my desk, not on my chest!
