I love my minidisc recorder and often record radio broadcasts with it from my stereo hifi receiver. However, I often hear about "pod casts". Is it possible to download a podcast to my minidisc player/recorder and listen to it? Or must I have an IPod?

Thanks.. Tom

Just record it from your Soundcard the same way you did the HI FI , If you can Play the Podcast on the Computer , you can record it to your MD

Might be slower than an iPoood , but way more permanent . !!!! MD Rulz

You can import almost any MP3 file into SonicStage and transfer it to your MD. If you have an older MD, it will be converted to ATRAC. If you have a newer unit that plays native MP3, it will transfer directly. Of course, for the most part doing Podcasts with an iPod is much easier - if the Podcast you want to listen to is available on iTunes, it is pretty much automatic. But before I got an iPod, I did listen to Podcasts on my MD units.

First, decide what podcatcher program you will be using. iTunes is by far the most popular, but is not the only one available. Second, once you have subscribed to the podcasts that you want to get, locate the folders that your podcatcher has made for them. Now, these next steps are for Windows users only. Open SonicStage and use the conversion tool to find and convert the podcasts to atrac, or if you are using an RH1, just upload them as mp3's. Upload them as you would any other audio file, and enjoy.

If you are unfamiliar with SonicStage, there is a wealth of information here in the software section of this forum.

Good luck, and if you have a chance, give a listen to our MD made podcast on the end of the world: Destructomundo!

I have walked many a listener through the process of getting our show.

I find that Juice works well for me, and is fairly intuitive to set up. http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/

RE: earlier question of how exactly to do this - all you have to do is import the podcast into SonicStage, then transfer to your device like any other song. If it needs to be converted to ATRAC, that will be done automatically by the software. There are advanced options for selecting the default bitrate. If you have NetMD, I would use LP4, if you have HiMD, I would use HiLP (64K) (which is much better than LP4).
