mdt1007
Hi all! I just bought another MZ-RH1, a brand new silver one from buyfromjapan, in addition to the black MZ-M200 I've already got... as a backup unit. It arrived in pristine condition.. except the fact that it will NOT CHARGE the battery when inserted. No battery charging indicator like when I plug into my domestic bought MZ-M200. Help? Suggestions? It's a rather useless unit if I cannot charge the battery inside it. thx!

Also the Battery may be old , even though the unit is unused , Lithiums without usage will go bad from time to time . If the battery from your M200 ( the same thing as RH1) will work in it , then it is a Battery issue Also , What power supply are you using ? If it is a Japan 100 volt supply the 120 US voltage will shut it down from thermal overload ( unless it says 100-240 world voltage on the supply) try those things then come back Edited May 2, 2008 by Guitarfxr

mdt1007
Try pressing the stop button while connected. The Japanese RH1 comes with a world voltage USB to AC adaptor. When I connect it to the wall AC adapter, nothing displays, as if it doesn't even know I connected the mini-USB to the recorder. When I try charging it by the USB port from my computer, charging indicator lights up for about 4 seconds, then bam.. gone. I let it sit there for a good six hours, connected to my computer, and when I unhooked it, it's still at the same 1/3 capacity. Battery orientation is correct because the device powers on with the little juice that the stock battery has when I unplug it.
Strungup
hmmmmm. that is interesting , You say you bought new ? send it back immediately get a replacement , sound like the power regulation circuit is gone in it .
Avrin
The first of my RH1s behaved this way for the first few days, Then the problem disappeared. Leave the unit off and disconnected for an hour (with the battery inside), then connect the USB/power cord, and then plug the adapter into the wall socket. This may help. THIS SUCKS
lithium ion batteries will only charge in a certain temperature range. are you sure the battery and the unit are at room temperature?
sfbp
I recall this with the MZ-RH1 until I got used to it. IIRC I learned quite quickly that charging only ever works if the MD is first "off". But if you are already an RH1 owner this makes no sense. What happens if you plug in to the wall having first removed the battery? It should work fine. If it doesn't, something else is wrong (duh, like one of those J****h doctor jokes).Funnily enough I had my old laptop start to play up about 10 days ago. The battery says its fully charged but kicks out after 10 minutes. If I disable all power management it runs for at least another half hour before actually running out of juice. Something about circuitry that measures and remembers the state of the Li battery?
mdt1007
without the battery while plugged in, it will not turn on. "buyfromjapan" was nice enough to tell me I could ship it back to him all the way to japan and he will reimburse my shipping cost, as well as ship me out a new one. I requested he test out the new unit before sending it off to me this time. If it's damaged again, then courier insurance ought to take care of it. Sucks....thanks, guys.
