Hi all,

I received the NWA-3000 for Christmas and I really didn't like the earphones that came with it because they were far too big for me, and were very uncomfortable.

I already had a Sony CD Walkman (can't remember the model, sorry) and the earphones that came with it are the MDR-E808. They always fitted me well and were very comfortable for me. So, I put my NWA-3000 phones away and chose to use the E808's.

I never really thought about the actual audio quality of the 2 sets.

Then the other night, I was listening to my Walkman and then all of a suddent the right 'phone stoped working? So I jiggled the wires about where they merge into the plug and every so often the right 'phone would work for a few moments. But right now it will not work.

So I plugged in the phones that came with the Walkman, and oh boy, it sounded horrible compared to my E808's. The sound seemed muffled, the awesome guitar riff on the song I was listening to at the time was quiet, and the vocals were very clear. I plugged in my E808's again to see the difference (Even though only the left one was working) and the music sounded amazing again.

So I'm very miffed right now that I'm having to use the Walkman stock phones, so I'm going to have to either buy a new pair of E808's, or buy a pair someone could recommend?

I'd rather buy the E808's because I know they are comfortable for me, but if there is something similar and better sounding out there, please let me know!

I'm going to Crawley on Tuesday so I'll pop in to the SonyStyle shop there.

Thanks :)

Sorry, but the E808 is just a typical cheap stock bud, and has crap sound quality at the same level as iPod stock bud. An E838 with earbud foam simply sounds much better. If you need replacement, and like bass, get the MDR-E10. They should be pretty cheap. Another good and cheap option is Sennheiser MX400/500.

Hehe, I'm clearly not an audiophile then LOL.

I was only basing my opinion on the earphones I've used, which are all stock buds, and of all the ones I've heard, the E808's have been amazing hehe. I guess all my other stock buds have been totally dreadful then!

Thanks for your suggestions guys! I'll check them out :)

Just to let you know, I decided to buy MDR-EX71's from Amazon UK. I saw them in HMV for £40 and couldn't be bothered to pay that much, then saw them on Amazon for £25. Brill! Have to say I am extremely impressed with them so far! Just waiting for the cable to start splitting/melting apparently hehe.

It's now 7 months on and my EX71's are still going strong after continuous use! No sign of the cable melting or splitting. Maybe Sony changed the material used on the cables??

I've had my EX71 for at least 2 years now, and no signs of the cable wearing off either. IMO it's how you take care of it.

I've had the mdr-ex71's for 10 months when the driver went mad.

Sucking on the earbud was pointless then, it just was totally gone out of control :P

they're dead now :)...nut doesn't bother me, since I'm enjoying my sennheiser CX300's sonce last summer.

I have to say, I'm a big sony fan, but these ''sennies'' just wipe the floor with the sony mdr-ex71's

greetz

And sound quality on the A3000 is so good, you can connect still better headphones and get a clearly audible improvement, as lnog as you do not use high impedance phones (like some Sennheisers).

My preferred phone is the Shure E4; excellent sound and very good isalation, more then welcome since I use it for commuting by public transport.

There's no shadow of a doubt that the Sennheiser CX300 is the best earphone you can buy in the price-range. I was blown away by the quality/performance and oh yeah, almost forgot, decent cusomer service when they rarely go wrong. The 2 year guarantee on them is such a great added extra too.

Well done Sennheiser :) Sony, I feel, has a little catching up to do where earphones are concerned, but before anyone calls me a "Sonyophobe" (!!), their walkmans are way way better than anything else you can get on the market, and Sonicstage has also been faithful to me up til now......famous last words!
