PhilippeC
Pham Cu brought it yesterday evening. He also brought my new CD player, a Marantz CD Recorder dual-tray DR-6050. He said that the digital in is faulty (I knew that) and so the "Digital Audio Interface Receiver" IC LC89051V need to be replaced. I will look in France first but if you already know where I can order it in UK or even in USA (I have family in California), Ok !
Esphynol Jmd
Hai PhillipeC, Is there any device out there can override the initial problem? p/s: sorry for the delayed respond you in pm.
PhilippeC
Just another Digital Audio Interface Receiver IC LC89051V ! Right now my B5 deck is just a (very good) MD player (SP only). If I don't find it is not important as I have many portable units and the JB980 deck for my recordings. But as Pham Cu is ready to continue to work on it, why not ?
sfbp
So if I understand it right, the chip that blew up is the sampling rate converter? Seems like maybe in later machines that all that functionality was folded into some more complex chip. I realise that discrete may = better quality, but is it also true that more to go wrong is possible with more components to perform the same job? I'm not a great electronics buff, but maybe pham cu or someone else can tell me if I am understanding this correctly. This part of the decoding looks to be a standard function; is it critical to the quality in the MDS-B5 or can you simply bypass it somehow with some more modern chip. Even tying it up at 44.1 sample rate, so that it doesn't try to do the conversion, unless you actually need Fs=48KHz recording. But the latter conversion you could achieve by (say) putting signal (first) to JB980, and pressing record - now the sample rate conversion should be achieved with Fs=44.1 output which you can feed to the MDS-B5. Make sense? Stephen
PhilippeC
You meen it is because I don't choose a good sample rate at first ? Damned me with my PC 24bit-96kHz audio collection ! Ok tomorrow I connect the MDS-B5 with the Marantz DR-6050 CD player and/or to the JB980 optical out to fix the sample rate at 44.1kHz. Stephen, read my comments to my first CD recording from PC with the Marantz DR-6050 : seem like it need a week to record 80mn of music ! Long live minidisc and PC's CD burning (no, don't hurt me) ! sfbp
This is the kind of reason why Sony and other manufacturers don't like repairing equipment any more - they replace whole machines (my PCM-10 for example) or at least whole boards.
