MDietrich
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a455520/sony-minidisc-player-shipments-to-cease-in-march.html I wasn´t aware that Sony was still producing MD gadgets for the Japanese market. Oh, and note the error in the link above
sfbp
Actually they aren't. What the article says is that they announced it effective September (which we did get reported here). What they're now saying is that even what was left unsold is now gone from the retail channel, I think. Stephen PS what error?
freddyjollo
from the BBc news website so must be true - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21297024 Sony to make last MiniDisc stereo system in March

The error is that they are talking about the MZ-1 as the first device hitting the market in 1992 when it´s clear that they used a picture showing an MZ-N1. One might neglect the possibility of an error but I think that it actually is one because of their similar designations.
funkateer
If you look at gadget sites and the comment sections, this has to be the most online attention md has gotten in years.

Probably they did well to find any pic
Jimma
That BBC article isn't great. Since when has anyone held a magnet to a disc and had their recordings erased. Not likely. It also states that Japanese teenagers loved MiniDisc singles. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there were many singles released on MiniDisc. In fact the only one I've every heard of is Electricity by Suede. I'm also quite surprised that they would think the movie Strange Days would have any effect on the sales of MiniDisc equipment. funkateer
Wow, haven't seen Strange Days since it came out. Didn't Ralph Fiennes download peoples memories onto md? And if so, why didn't Sony add that feature to hi-md?
Sony_Fan
So quick question, is Sony still making blank minidiscs or Hi-MD discs? Is anyone else making these besides Sony? When will all minidisc devices and blanks stop being produced?
Jimma
As far as I know, HHB in the UK still make blank discs. They are certainly in their 2013 catalogue. http://www.hhb.co.uk/product_detail.php?id=
