Question

Hi to my North American cousins

I'm due to travel in NYC in the fall, and was wondering IF the A800 series had arrived in the US as yet? I know, from threads on here that Canada has it, but not sure about the US? If so, how much is it going for?

Many Thanks

NW-A8xx does not appear on the Sony USA website as yet. They don't even get the full range on the NW-S7xx range, only the 1 gig and 2 gig versions. I allways thought the USA got most things before the rest of the world?

Funny that Canada has it, but not the US. I thought the US market was important to Sony. Or have they assumed that their all Ipod crazy?

I am having a hard time figuring this one out. Sony has traditionally given, until the release of the NW-S700/S600 series, US priority over Canada when it comes to Walkman brand. That is by supplying US with a larger selection, through more colours and models.

It could be because Walkmans have been doing poorly in US for various reason. US was Sony largest market outside of Japan. This may have changed.

The Walkmen have doing doing poorly in the US because of Sony USA's own stupidity. They don't advertise, don't ship products fast enough, don't make the products readily available in giant retailers like Bestbuy, and now, they don't even release the products themseleves. I mean how can you compete if you don't release the products?

Then again, maybe stupid Sony USA is waiting for the iPhone to be released, so nobody will care about the new walkmen, and then Sony Music can blame poor sales to piracy...

I have been very disappointed in Sony's support of the US market. I have recently purchased NWE005, NWS205, and NWS705 because of the quality set of features each had. I didn't look at the available accessories. I was spoiled from having an iPod Nano. Being in the US, I cannot get most of the accessories Sony has but are only available outside of the US. I recently went to a Sony store looking for cases, docks, anything. The Sony employee suggested eBay! The NW-A800 looks cool in the pictures. I just wonder if I can see one in the US without going through eBay....

Why not order from Canada? What's the world come to, when a Sony employee advises going to ebay for a Sony Product

I had tried, but got stuck at:

Sony Style sells and ships products only within Canada. If you are residing outside of Canada, or intend to pay with a credit card issued by a bank outside of Canada, please find a list of Sony "global sites" at: www.sony.net

I bought a case for a Sansa player for my NW-S705F...really wanted that clear case.

I'm pretty sure Sony's releasing of products to Canada before the US has been going on before the NW-S700/S600 series. It may have even started during the MD days. It happened with my NW-407 - I think that was 2005.

I follow new product releases online and try to read as much as I can before purchasing. I recall looking for information on the NW-407 and noticing the product was not listed at the US Sony store.

In the past Sony Canada has release less models and lower capacity in Canada. Sony USA phased out products quicker than it was possible to adapt. The NW-A600 series came out in the USA after the NW-E400/E500 series, and the NW-E400/E500 was promptly dropped. It seems Canada has become the beautiful step-sister, although American media industry is blaming Canada to be a copyright infringement haven.

Sad as it may sound Canada is the second largest country in the world, but has a population at a tenth of America and a quarter of Japan. The market size for the country size does not exist. The strong Canadian dollar seems to have helped improve the situation. But, this is all speculation on my behalf as to why Canada has NW-A800 and US does not.

I phone? Who do you call  .

I'm not sure why Sony releases in Canada before the US - unless they are using us as some kind of market research experiment! I recall a sales person at Bay Bloor Radio (a high end audio/video store in Toronto, Canada) telling me that MD equipment from Sony was often sent to them first as they generated such great sales for the product. Now they only carry iPod!
