IS MY NW-S706 FAKE?

Hi,I cant find the "made in" country back of my device,or up on the box...Only the manuals are writing at the final page that they have printed in Malaysia..

What do you believe?

If anyone here is from europe and has a S700 or S600 series that can post pictures of the rear or tell us if there is a made in malaysia sign then please do.

I can confirm that country of origin is NOT printed on the back of my S706F (European model). I bought mine from a central London UK Sony dealership.

Guys,sorry for the scanned pictures and the bad resolution,and thank u all for ur replays.I hope from these new pictures to be seen the purple(mauve) color of my device..I send message to Sony,but they didn' t answer yet.I left it to working loudly,up to four ours,and I think that I saw a small improvment on sq.I dont know if its my fantasy,but I think that I will change earpuds(maybe with the mdr-ex90).Will I see any difference in sq with them?

As sound quality seems to be the issue here I would take it back to where you bought it and demand a replacement. The fact that it doesn't have the country of origin stamped on the back isn't an issue now (Mine doesn't have it either). Blasting the stock buds for four hours won't improve sq. If you change the earbuds to EX90's you will loose the noise cancelation feature. This is a great unit with good sq using the stock buds. Get your self a replacement and see how that one sounds

I would like to change it with a new one,but its not possible now.It is out of stock and if I will find another one at the other stores,which is a little difficult,then they will have stuck with old prizes like 169 euros.

Why not exchange it for an NWZ-A816 or NW-A806? You won't be complaining of bad sq when you have a listen to one of these. They should be able to do a straight swap. How long have you had the S706 for?

Big companies like Sony can take weeks if not months to get back to customers.

Good point Haijuki. What are your equalizer settings? Also, at what volume are you listening?

My one didn't. I don't think any of the 7xx series were volume capped at all. I got mine from Amazon.co.uk and there was definitely no limit on it.

I think the 7xx upwards don't have volume limiting anymore.

I thought so. . . I remember someone at Head-Fi advising someone not to buy the 808/818 because it was 'known' to be volume capped!!!

I made sure to correct that point. Don't want people not buying it because of incorrect information.

A. Black technically is not a colour. It is occurs when no light is being reflected. It could be believed that the because of the metal surface that light is being reflected causing it to appear to be purple.

I didnt want to buy a video player device and I like the noise cancel function and the big battery life of s706.Also,s706 has 4 GB memory at 95euros and a805 has 2GB and 139euros at the same store...

I have adjust the EQ settings,dont worry,you must put the high and mid at the higher position,to hear a little clearer sound..

hi, i have the same kind of model, bought from ebay. It is the pink version of S706, which I believe is carried out originally on woot.com. In fact, these are genuine sony products, only they were sold in the US mostly even though they are european models. I have even registered my S706 on the sony website successfully!

The S600/700 series require excellent workmanship, and I do not think any company could make exact copies of them. Maybe you could try some functions like the clear bass/ clear stereo/ VPT/ or noice cancelling? Maybe a little audio test?

I have the same unit in purple, it has the same as yours on the back, no place of manufacturer and i purchased 2, from authorised Sony UK dealers!

I brought S706F in Buy.com and it also don't print the country of Original in the back. But don't worry, mostly it made in Malaysia.Cheers.
