Tleilax
...when I'm out and about and see someone else using MD. The format seems to be unheard of here in Phoenix, but since this is the armpit of the southwest I'm not really too surprised. Used to see guys carrying portable MD units pretty regularly when I lived in San Francisco, and I got a real rush when in Portland recently waiting for a bus, and one of my fellow riders pulled one from his backpack. Was just wondering how often visitors to this board see other people using MD out in the real world...
Lustral
I see a few people in the UK. Last week on the train i saw this chick had a minidisc. She had a old unit by the looks of it. big and chunky , could be a Sony Mz-R33 or something lol Few users , but im sure they r out there Cya
Bazirker
I almost never see MD players. It's frankly kinda sad. What's funny is that every time I go to Best Buy or some electronics store with MD players I end up talking someone into buying a NetMD unit over an MP3 player. Personally, I think the local electronics stores should give me a discount considering that all their employees are idiots that got hired because they know what an MP3 is. Sigh...surrounded by idiots, as always...
darK (aka Tharaka)
i am actually suprised about how many MD players i see every day... at school about half the people have them.. and i'm suprised that they dont get confisgated.. because it is a rule that you cannot have CD players or MP3 or Walkman at school.. i guess they forgot about MD.. lol i would have theought that they would be really popular in America and Canada.. but i heard somewhere they they only have the N505 in canada.. or something like that
GD|eNSo
nope, they have 505/707/N1 here. Yeah its always sweet to see a person with an MD. It's just so damn unique!
digger1914
I notice that whgen I change discs on a train, people stare. You can see their minds working "What the hell is that thing?" If only they knew!

Guest Anonymous
Don't know anyone else personally who owns one. Am considering giving my 707 to my girlfriend and getting an N1 just so I know someone else with an MD....sigh. A fellow co-worker does want to buy one, but was shocked when he learnt the price (in Cdn, and purchased locally). It is a bit depressing, but it's not stopping me from buying a boombox and a shelf system (probably from Minidisco). Another co-worker thought my MD's were floppy discs until she looked closer. And yet another one was amazed to find out that 'you can tape 5 hours on that! Cool!'. So, there's cause for optimism and depression. rory.robinson
Yeh a few people have them, but most people aren't fussed. Only 3 other people I know use Minidisc Players, one of them I introduced to the format. What a shame... people have no idea what they are missing out on! Leland
Since I live in Tokyo, I see 'em all over the place. All sizes, all ages. Everyone in Japan knows about MD, almost nobody would use a casette anymore. The dissapointment about those missing out in the US and elsewhere is amplified by seeing an entire society that is NOT missing out.
postpositivist
Hey Tleilax, There are some others in Phoenix that are into MD. Other than me, I know of three other users. How can Phoenix be the armpit of the southwest if there are at least five MDers? However, you'd think that I'd see a few in a university environment (ASU)--alas, I know of none there. Tleilax
How can Phoenix be the armpit of the southwest if there are at least five MDers? My apologies. You are absolutely correct! Now it's only a deororized armpit! There probably are more MD users in Phoenix than one would surmise, but not really having a public transit system here that anyone uses, you don't see them. me
In new zealand: If it is an old MD.. like... R37, R30, R3(!) then they think 'wow, fancy cassette player'. If it is a modern MD (R90, R900, N1, N505 etc) then they think 'hehe, MP3 player. I can't win. And I don't change disks just to show off. Although once when I did have to change a disk, I got that puzzled stare, rofl

me
well, they probably thought it was a zip disk or some other bizarre form of mp3 player..

mAjEsTiC
hehe...yeh i agree wif all of u ppl...itz realli amazing 2 find that MD's hav'n realli caught on all that much despite it being around 4 ages...in Aus tho @ least there is sum recognition of MD's...esp round in Sydney...mayb becoz of Azn influences but then again mayb not...tho Australia is kinda behind when it comes 2 MD technology i gotta agree with that...tho those puzzled looks do still arise from time 2 time when ppl see MD's.......... Guest Anonymous
I live in Ogden, Utah, and the only other people I know with MD recorders or players, I introduced to the things. But, I do enjoy the exclusivism of it here in the USA, the stare is like a nice compliment, most of the time. I guess the main reason that it still hasn't caught on though, was that MP3 was coming out near the same time Sony stopped promoting MD, and people liked the thought of getting something for nothing off of the internet, fools. If these people only knew what childs toys they were using.
simonm
See alot of people in Sydney wearing headphones walking to and from work everyday, whether they're MDs I can't tell, the devices are usually buried in jackets, pockets or bags. Haven't seen a MD on the street yet, but two of my colleagues at work have them.
Guest Anonymous
I was quite surprised. Here in Holland you could find Sharp MD MT-180 for 100 Euros a few month ago. I see some now and then. In Belgium one of my niece - age 16 - told me that half of her class owned one! So we may perhaps trust more the younger generation... See you in april. Guest Anonymous
Bazirker, I hope to God that you're joking. MP3 has definite benefits over MD. You're a complete ass if you just lead people away from buying MP3 players.
