Got my 900 happy, but...

Well I received my NH 900 yesterday. It is great, but it looks more like the old 700 models, sounds great. But there is a huge minus. The disply is so tiny and it is nearly impossible to read when the lighting is not perfect. This is especially bad when you want to set manual recording levels - in a concert or so. It is absolutely impossible to read. Why does one still have to click through so many levels to set rec volume?

The display on my RS 900 was much better. Wel all in all it is a good machine, but that to me is a huge minus.

It's not just my machine then! I bought the a NH900 yesterday, and have also found the recorder's display hard to read - it's not the size so much for me, but the background is so dark. At first, I was relieved to see you could adjust the contrast, but that doesn't make any difference to the visibilty. I've been contemplating exchanging it for an NH1, which appears to have the equivalent display on the remote, but I prefer having the option of a dry battery power supply.

Of course, now I've seen this thread.

The NH1's unit display is almost useless at a thin 1-line dimension, plus it's somewhat hard to see and its contrast cannot be adjusted.

The 3-line remote is easier to look at, as long as you don't hold it in an angle against bright light sources where a glaring reflection would show... which isn't hard, I got used to it rather quickly

tomdigital, can you check a feature for me?

ive seen a "built in alarm" listed as a feature of the 900.... but i didn't find anything about it in the manual

is there an alarm? and if there is, is it a countdown timer or a real clock?

thanks

It's the same Melody Timer that Sony has installed in most of their high-end MD units. Makes some type of sound after a set number of minutes from 1 to 99.

and a retarted tune too. like those old melody cell phones that could only play one note at a time.  what a way to alert you, nice song, then BAM! ("WTH is THAT?!?!"  Has anyone figured out what that tune is? (im talking about the 910 model)(hacked 510)

In my old N10, the manual listed it as being Classical1, Classical2 and Classical3. Whatever that means... blink.gif
