I'm looking at my manual and the options on my RH1 & NFH800 and I don't see how I can set the unit to record any MDLP modes on an 80 min disc. I bought an N1 and I was thinking I'd try it out at work since it's got no AA lump like my NHF 800. the AA lump isn't that big of a deal but I just wanted to try it out. plus the N1 is a nice looking MD unit. there's NO WAY I'm taking the RH1 to the metal shop with the air filled with magnetic dust (not to mention all manner of other types of dust.) my NHF800 had a read error the other day, I got a "buissy" message for a while and it just wouldn't read the disc. I looked inside and I think it looked like fine steel dusd had gatherd on the spindle so I blew it out with compressed air and it worked fine again (been fine for over a week now of daily use) I want a gumstick battery, metal shell player(recording not really nesassary) HiMD unit for work, EH1 I spose that would be, but the right deal hasn't come my way yet.

don't wanna step on anyones toes but I'll shoot ya $15 for the rest any time. it's 9:12 PM here and I'll be up late.
-
Hey sounds good to me =^) PM comming at ya.

is this one of those things you do just cause you can ? I can't see digging around in there without a good reason. mine is actually an M200 bought new at Minidisco on 8/14/2007 and sold on ebay to me just about 1 week ago.

yes, I agree, first come first served =^) I'm up for used but nice working condidion, any color is fine. maybe even non working units for parts/repair ? thanks for offering help Guitarfxr.

garcou, I don't believe Sonic Stage works with Win NT. there's no USB support in NT so even if it did I don't see the point. I'm on NT here and all I can do is analogue recording....now if there was a firewire connection...

Ahh you think the king has no clothes blueraja ? heh...I can't totallly disagree with your points even as a new owner of one. I can see the little jog knob on the NH1 would be easier to use in my pocket. my main reason for getting a portable player is for work so portability and ease of use is importiant. I'll most likely use mine as a recorder/player at home. it's disconcerting about the OLED. maybe I'll offer it for trade sometime. there are other units I like the look of as well.

thanks Avrin, I figured out the charger bit later on as I was looking at all the stuff. funny you mention the ferrite cores, I was going to ask about them. they are ugly as hell. I wanted to take them off the remote right away. I'm amazed at how good the earbuds are that came with this thing. these buds just don't stay on my ears for anything. so I'm using UE Super fi.3's I have seen some add on canal bulbs for earbud 'phones, I may try 'em out. thanks again for the reply, I still gotta get USB though it's rediclous not having it now.

OK, I voted the mail came and now I can definatly say I have one here and it played very nicely. looking it over, I can't see an AC adapter socket ? so outside power is only from a USB connection ? if this is the case, it's gonna force me to get a new computer since my old NT workstation has no USB support ! snazzy unit !

ya know, when I first saw this post I thought of fish bait slop. even after I read the post I still thought is was some odd obtuce brand name just for fun...and still thought they were refering to fish bait. this was a week ago or so when I saw the post. then just now it occurd to me that Chum is also a term for friend. DUH!!!! so, yeah, how do you order these ? is there an english virsion ?

since MD is old and sort of a dead format, older used players are cheap. that, combined with it's recording capability ment I could get my MP3's onto a portable device smaller than a CD player and take to work. my comp is an old NT workstation with no USB support. so it's analogue for now. after taking the plunge I learned from co workers w/ pods that they have no equalizer or tone controll, there's problems with DRM and sharing tunes, of course I can record from their pod but I can't share w/ them w/o a hassel. anyway, MD units are bigger than a nano or other small devices, and their space is limited. but heck, I can bring a couple of 1 gig discs to work and honestly, I can't possibly listen to near 8 hrs of music at work, let alone 45 hrs worth. so capasity isn't really an issue. my NHF800 has fit in my shirt pockett in a metal shop all summer w/o any issues. I taped over the ports but the headphone jack so metal dust or sparks, drill chips whatever dosn't get in there. it's still light and easy to carry even with the battery lump. any MD unit has cooler gadget factor than the ultra bland pods. I'm attracted to cool little machines and so I'm starting to accumulate more MD players...heh. somewhere I read of a guy who liked it cause rather than pay for dowloaded music, he could just record the streaming audio via MD and get it free. (and gee, ya shure could...wonder why they stoped makeing these things.) so...I guess I do like the sound quality too, but it's a bonus that came with the other cool things that are MD. sound quality is so highly dependant on source and setup. I plan on recording some of my old vinyl, but I know it'll be scratchy. I can deal with that. for me MD bridges the gap between casette tapes in user process, and the file swaping modern process. it's got USB when I get a comp with it. (I know for alot of you it's like running water) since I grew up making casette tapes of my records for the car etc, I don't get the whole DRM thing. I mean I get the idea-digital copies are too close to original yadda yadda...well if I own the CD or vinyl, I'm gonna do whatever I damn well please with it. including share a disk with a buddy if I ever meet another human with an MD unit. but I've never used limewire or napster or torrent...the MP3's or wav's I have off the net are just hanging out there for anyone. mostly DJ mix/mash or postings for feedback before larger release. I doubt I'll stop buying CD's. I like having the object. but I still buy mostly from the used market. it's not about getting music free, but being free to do what I want with what I bought.

thanks ;^)

Hi, I'm not going to horn in on your transaction here, but I'm curious as to what advantage this remote has over the stock RH1 remote ?
-
message sent Bob ;^)

well...I HOPE I own one ! I just took a Buy it Now for one @ $275.oo with free priority mail shipping. barly used with all included original equiptment in original box. the seller said he played it once and even the 1 gig disc is still sealed. I had planed to buy one from Minidisc Canada this weekend but then this showed up last night. anyway...with priority mail it ought to be here by next wensday. hopefully the seller is honest and I didn't screw myself trying to save $50. I really want an NH1 too 'cause it's soooo cool looking. I do custom metalwork for a living, I was wondering about removing the metal shell on the NH1 and sanding it smooth or polishing it. magnisium will also take a patina nicely I think, so the case could be blackend with chemicals...asids that is. I doubt I'd attempt it unless I could get the case off.

Hi Bob, I know nothing. this question of changing batterys is just to see if I can before I buy one. the one I've found is suposedly working fine. I'm still waiting for the seller to get back with me. I had one conversation with her and as far as I can tell, she's got the whole thing with all the contens of the retail box and she recently checked it and it's working well. the add was in L.A. but when I called, she was in N.Y.C. on her cell. hard to hear her so I gave her my email. her add is expired now but I wrote down the phone #. well...it's been a week or more and the add is now gone, I still got her phone # and I've left my email with her. heven't herd back yet. I hope she writes me soon...maybe she was on a buisness trip ? ehh...it's annoying when someone posts a sale add and dosn't keep the conversation going.

how 'bout a walk to the store ? =)
-
well, I agree, this diagram is for disposal of the battery, and after searching google on this, I never found a post on any board stating someone actually DID it successfully. so indeed that little bit may need to be broken off there. maybe it's solderd down on instalation. still it looks like a sony service tech could do it or a crafty person with the right tools. after reading about a ribbon connectior being replaced with wires from earbud cord I can't imagine it's impossible. I would like to read that someone actually did it though.
-
Ahh, Ishiyoshi...yes I found that last night after posting this question. seems like it's the difinative answer...these batteries are cheap on ebay too. as soon as I hear back I'm gonna go for it. oh, I havent seen anything yet, but does the E10 need any modds like changing volume limits in the service mode ? this unit was originally bought in London. thanks again folks =^)

well, hmm, at first it seemed like it was just 2 songs. I thought it may have been that I stoped recording w/ the unit in my hand, and maybe it got jarred some while writing onto the disk. thenit seemed to get worse and spread to 3-4 songs. I re recorded the songs and deleted the original recordings and I still seem to have a bad spot there. other discs seem fine...1g disk has been fine, 74 and 80 min. discs recorded in HiMD mode. I'm pritty shure all my discs are used so no idea how much (doubt it's been a million re records yet =p) if it's just the disk...no big deal, it just cost $1
-
heh, well, I spoke with the seller, she seems to have the unit and all included parts...so, we may strike up a deal. heh, she sounded cute. maybe I'll offer her $85 with shipping ? I might add Bob that after checking ebay including completed auctions, a few have sold for less. I'm getting the feeling it's tiny size comes with a cost of being fragile. I've seen several mentions of dented cases. add to that the need for an extra doodad for pluging the 'phones in and I have a feeling alot of them get damaged or renderd useless with the loss of the one unit remote or adapter. still it's really nifty looking, a good companion for a home 3cd dubbing deck with MDLP.
