  1. That is an interesting experience. I made sure that all programs were closed including SonicStage. After upgrading the firmware to 1.03 my NW-A808 did not default to "Simple Mode". Did both your players revert to Simple Mode?
  2. You would require Quicktime or similar software for MPEG-4 / AVC (H.264/AVC) support. I do no thing that Quicktime would be required for convert and transfering files, just for viewing them. I might be wrong but I always thought that Quicktime Pro was the only version that could support converting files. From what I understand about Media Manager is that it include an RSS reader for video files, same as the feature included in Image Convert. Thus, I would suspect that this software would include the same features as Image Convert. Also, it should include an RSS reader for Audio files some that is greatly missed.
  3. There are many of you who have had iPods and have tested them. I was wondering what audio features do they have. What I mean is what technology is included in the player to enhance sound quality. I have been searching for this information and have found that it is lacking.
  4. First I doubt that the NW-A910 series will be available outside of Japan. More because of the 1Seg technology that is included in it and that it will retail for about 45,000 Yen. Sony should be releasing 16GB players soon however. I would recommend either of the new NWZ series, depending on the features that you want. The NWZ-S610/NWZ-S710 seem to be reasonably priced and packed with features. You could however take a critical look at the Cowan Iaudio, since it was your first mention. For various reason I will not recommend the iPod nano, one being is that there are many options for audio/video players that you should consider first. There is nothing wrong with iPod nano however.
  5. When you resolve that issue we would love to hear about your experience. Congrats on your purchase.
  6. Thank you. We have been talking about the last firmware update 1.03 since post #32. http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?...3624&st=30# A new thread should have been started. Less confusion for me at least.
  7. The only problem I had is that the player automatically reset itself. So it returned to the first track. If you do have problem then I would suggest pressing the reset button, but it would not hurt the player if you do.
  8. I would suspect that the Network Walkman functionality would die before the battery would. Or, heaven forbid, get broken.
  9. You do not need to transfer all tracks and data from the unit to the computer, if the said files are in SonicStage or on your Computer. This is a standard warning about upgrading the firmware. As, Lulu has stated, you would backup SonicStage just in case.
  10. I am unsure about that, too, since ATRAC files are similar technically to MP3 files. Trying would not hurt. However, I now agree with you that the Metatag must be the issue. I do believe that they are doing the correct thing.
  11. I do not think that the NWZ-A810 will be available in Canada for some time. The NWZ-A810 series does sell for less than the NW-A810 in other regions. There have been reports of missing features on the NWZ-A810 that are found on the NW-A800 series. Sony Canada has designated both models for different markets. If you want a new model, and do not care much about video playback the NWZ-S618 would be a better purchase. Especially, since you will be getting a FM radio.
  12. SO you are using SonicStage 4.3 then right. In SonicStage you have selected "Use Intelligent Features". You have converted your files to ATRAC. When you check on your players it says under Common Settings, for the Unit Information the library is "Simple Mode". Try playing some song, then reconnect to SonicStage and Transfer a new files. Disconnect and see if there is any difference.
  13. One important note is the S610 series has a 1.8 screen as opposed to 2.0 for the A810 series.
  14. A long review. A good perception that was well presented. The "holy grail" of portable players does not exist. It has been known that because something is the most popular it does not make it the best quality. I do like what other manufacturers are doing. Who really cares about an iKiller? We want the best for our tastes. I still prefer replaceable gum-stick batteries.
  15. Most people have been waiting for the NW-A800 series to arrive in America. Additionally, many wanted native drag-and-drop. This is what the NWZ-A810 delivers. Board members have been comparing the NWZ-A810 series to the NW-A800 series. The NWZ-S610F series has been a pleasant surprise, however no one is farmiliar with it. There is much interest in this model.
  16. SonicStage will check the configuration of your compter and give you the options available. If the config. is correct then the Japanese will install, but your computer must be Japanese configurated.
  17. Either the BCR-NWU3 is defective or you need to get a converter. Try different outlets. The buzzing sound, that you hear when connecting to your speakers before attaching the NW-S706F, suggests that the problem is the BCR-NWU3. I have one more thing for you to try. On the bottom of the stand there is a switch. Try moving this to the other position, and do some tests.
  18. Okay. Will you been able to take a look at one and see what features are missing or extra.
  19. So, if you ignore the buzzing without disconnecting the AC cable, does sound come out when you press play following my instructions. Where did you get the BCR-NWU3 stand from? There should be no sound coming from the BCR-NWU3 when you connect the stand to the AC outlet. This may be the source of your problem.
  20. However, they are now out of stock on all the NWZ-A810 series.
  21. Unfortunately, now I am confused. Try this. Connect your speakers to the BCR-NWU3 stand, ensuring that neither the WM-PORT nor NW-S706F are connected. Ensure that the NW-S706F is off and then remove the headphones from the mini-port on the NW-S706F. Prepare the AC adapter setup using the AC cable, and not the WM-PORT cable (ie. turn your computer off). Attach the NW-S706F which has to be off. Turn on the NW-S706F and listen for sound. Hopefully, this will work. If it does then I will explain why.

    NW-A91x

Sorry. Thanks for the photos. It seems as though they removed the clock that was on the NW-A800 series. This was a feature that I rarely used, but at times was handy. I definitely will take a look at this unit to compare it to the NW-A808. I miss the Noise Cancellation that can be found on the NW-S700 series, and like the fact the Sony included a dedicated switch for the Noise Cancellation on the NW-A910 series.
  23. I though you said Apple for a moment there. I always though that it was possible to add Bluetooth to Sony's Network Walkman with WM-PORT. I would however agree that built in Bluetooth should be a feature of all feature DAP/DMP.

The media has a tendency of having too much influence on stating public opinion. The media contains individuals who believe they have something important say, and believe that they are being objective. It is not our responsibility to influence others, as netizens, but to allow them to form their own opinion.
