The same MD fan trying to sale his so-nice-labelled collection for some years now. A huge work he have done to upload all that stuff. Note that there are here and there some collectors (MD discs). PC laptop optical out ----> JB980 ----> Cyrus IIIi I rather use my JB980 as a DAC not before but between my PC (so I can record directly fromPC) and my amplificator (Cyrus IIIi). I can even record SACD files if I downgrade the quality to 48kHz or if I use an analog connection. PC desktop (player JRiver Media Center, Hi-Res settings, 1000 SACD/DSD/DFF albums + ) toslink optical out --- 24bit-192kHz coaxial output ---> Yamaha DSP-AZ1 (5.1, good enough...) PC desktop (toslink optical out , using a splitter) ----> JB930 (future) tolslink optical in ----> Yamaha receiver Marantz 5001 CD player coaxial optical out ----> JB930 (future) coaxial optical in ----> Yamaha receiver I don't have any use of your configuration (CD ----> MD deck before PC) in my major audio system as my CD player is a modern one so it has as a 24bit/192kHz DAC inside and the receiver (incredible old Yamaha DSP-AZ1) as also a coaxial input connection set to 192kHz. In my major configuration, a MD deck could be only use just to listen MDs and to record MDs from the CD player directly. I would need to buy an optical out PC splitter (PC ---> receiver + PC --> MD). I will do that when my JB930 now in france will joint my JB980 in Vietnam.

As you know, only few decks (MZ-W1 for the most famous but also some professional decks like the E10) can make a real copy of an MD. Digitaly connected to another MD deck copy is possible one time if I remember well, due to SCMS limits. But another gentle SI member will be better than me for all the details. analog copy is Ok. Anyway digital or analogic, the Atrac compression will act again...

That is right, no Hi-MD with an optical output. BUT I have read somewhere that somebody (was that you Stephen ?) hacked is MZ-RH1 and made an optical out.

Hi selmasongs, MZ-N510 my very first MD... stoled. If you connect the external AA battery box, it work just fine. Both with alkalines and rechargeable batteries like Energizer. Never notice a difference. I hope somebody who still have one will answer you soon about this option. I love rutracker.org . I just need the Google translator !

It look like handling MDs or K7s in a car (even car parked) is not well appreciated nowadays, even dangerous if you are alone. An unit with a line-in and a small stick MP3 player or even a bluetooh coonection with a smartphone is now the common thing. In case you don't sell it, just think that it possible to install it in a desktop rack (player only I suppose) ! Try also vintage audio web sites.

I still converting Flac to WMA when I need to use SS. But now 90% of my audio collection on my PC (6 Tb, close to 15.000 albums, all got free) is in SACD / DST / WAV 5.1 format !

Damned, And the problem occur on the ultimate unit... NGY or sfbp will be more helpfull than me but as the previous owner did not use the unit that much, the front panel could have dust or contacts problem inside.

Did you clean the recording lenses (gently) ? If one of our technician aficionados here like NGY or sfbp (Stephen) can help you, perfect. But considering the actual value of such a deck, maybe it would simple to buy a new one.
