  1. Thank you. I was probably going to go with the MZ-M200 because for some reason I can find it for cheaper than an MZ-RH1. I just thought there a difference with the units being volume limited or something to that effect. I read some stuff about that on here so I was curious.
  2. From what I've gathered on here they're pretty much the same but I was wondering which one to buy. I have only seen the MZ-M200 come in black but I've seen the MZ-RH1 come in black, silver and blue. What is the differences between those 3 colors? Are there other colors available for in each unit? I know it's all about personal opinion but I was wondering, which one would you recommend? Thanks and Happy Holidays.
  3. I just recorded a live show on Wednesday night and my MZ-R700 did the same exact thing. And I used a Sony 74 minute disc (dark blue color collection). I've had my MZ-N505 do the same thing while recording once through the soundboard (a Sony 80 minute red color collection). One of my Hi-MD units (MZ-RH910) did it to me over the summer while I was recording a live show (a Hi-MD disc which I was recording in PCM), but it hasn't done it since and I've recorded about 6 or so shows since then (in Hi-SP setting). I don't know what causes it to happen. I hope someone can shed some light on this problem for us.
  4. I've already recorded from the soundboard. The vocals are alot louder than everything else. The instruments are nice and clean but the vocals overpower them.
  5. I have a couple of minidisc recorders that I use to record some local bands that I know play. Some Hi-MD (MZ-RH910 & MZ-NH900) and some MDLP (MZ-R700). I have a Sony ECM-MS907 and a Sony ECM-MS957 which I have recorded with about 6 or so times. Not bad recordings but I still want better quality, if possible. As far as mic placement goes, I usually put the mics on a mic stand right by the soundboard (if possible) or in the center of the room. I test it out with my ears before I setup the mics. I've been reading stuff on these forums about the Audio Technica AT822. Would that be a good mic for recording a rock band? Or is there something else that would be better? I saw that Sony makes a 957PRO. I like the sound of the ECM-MS957 but it doesn't do a great job of recording bass or lower tones while the ECM-MS907 does, but it doesn't do a great job of recording higher tones. I don't have many complaints about either microphone but I would like something better. I don't really want to spend a fortune on anything either because it's just a hobby and my work schedule and/or girlfriend could affect my future with this hobby. Any suggestions from anybody would be nice. Thanks.
  6. I bought a MZ-RH910 off of someone on Craigslist lasy year and I couldn't seem to charge the battery via wall adaptor or USB. I also had a similar problem with and MZ-NH900 unit I bought off of ebay. I got on ebay and bought a Hitech charger that came with 2 green Streamsonic 1400 mAh 1.2V NiMH batteries. The charger is a plug-in the wall type that you have to take the batteries out of the unit itself and charge them in the Hitech wall charger. I haven't had any problems with them at all (meaning I'm currently using them instead of my Sony batteries in my Hi-MD units). I just think my Sony batteries were near the end of their lives. The Sony's charge but don't seem to last as long as the newer ones.
  7. I know it has been a year and a half since anyone has replied to this topic but I wanted to say my peace. I started out with MDLP (N505) around 2003 or so and then moved to a R700 last year. I have recently (within the past year) purchased 2 Hi-MD units (RH910 & RH700). I like them both but mainly do recordings of live shows with them and I still mix discs for the MDLP units. I think that if Sony wouldn't have come out with Hi-MD as a last ditch effort (so to speak) they would be a little more popular and gotten a little more into the mainstream. Instead, they introduce it in 2004 and pretty much stop making or promoting it around 2006/2007. Doesn't sound like they had alot of faith in it. I like it alot but I feel the same way as alot of other people on here. Standard minidisc and MDLP are easier to find (I just recently got another R700 off of ebay with 9 discs for @ $40). I'm not a minidisc expert but I love the concept and the product (despite all its flaws). But I think the "staying power" of Standard and MDLP will outlast the Hi-MD. Standard was around been around since 1992 and then almost 10 years later, they introduce MDLP. Even when the introduce Hi-MD in 2004 they made it backwards compatible with Standard and MDLP. And you can even make MDLP mixes with Hi-MD. Don't get me wrong. This doesn't mean that I will selling my Hi-MD units anytime soon but if I have to replace them in the future it will cost me more than a Standard or MDLP. I have no use for a Standard unit though, only MDLP & Hi-MD for me. Thank you for reading. P.S. - It would be really nice if they would come out with a newer minidisc (possibly Blu-Ray), but I'm not going to hold my breath cause if they do it will probably be short lived like the Hi-MD's were. Peoples' attention spans these days are very short and the life of electronic products these days are short. That's why they keep coming out with new products every few months. But that's a whole other topic.
  8. I have an N505 as well and though I don't have the problems that you described, I did have it cut out, while recording (I found out when I listened to the playback), for about a second every now and then when I was recording through the soundboard at a local rock show. It didnt seem like the unit got overloaded with high S.P.L.s so I dont know what happened to it. I only had that problem with the N505 machine and haven't used it to record a show ever since. I did have the same problem again but with a Hi-MD unit but I was recording with a microphone and there is some high S.P.L.s on the recordings so I figured that's what happened there. I don't know what cause my problem either, so a little bit of help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
  9. What exactly is the difference between these 2 Hi-MD units? Minidisc.org doesn't seem to have any info on the MZ-M200. Thanks.
  10. In some ways the minidisc format is dead. They don't make it anymore so they wanted it to die and be replaced with ipods, mp3 players and what not. We still use them so they are not dead, just a little harder to come by. I remember hearing about them back in the 90's when I was in high school and thinking; "What a great idea, I love it". Unfortunately I didn't get a minidisc player until around 2003, but ever since then I have bought a few more. I really thought MD's would replace CD's. Seems to make sense to me, the disc has a protective cover on it so it won't get scratched, sounds awesome to me. I hate scratched CD's. Well, I'm not going to let it die. I love MD and don't ever plan on giving it up. Oh, a Blu-ray MD would be the best thing ever. I doubt it will ever happen, but we can dream, can't we? I know I will. LONG LIVE THE MINIDISC
  11. I have found that the longest live show that I ever recorded was no more than 90 minutes long. I record shows of some local bands that I know and am able to place the mics in a good spot at the venue and they don't turn out too bad.I'm still learning as I go.
