  1. Nice! An MZ-N505. That was my first minidisc that I bought way back in 2003. I still use it from time to time also. I think I paid around $200 for it from Best Buy 11 years ago. It's a good little machine except that it doesn't have a mic input on it but the line in works just fine.
  2. This is my setup. There are 2 different racks to hold the discs and each one holds about 75 minidiscs. I think I got them from Minidisc Access back in like 2009 or 2010.
  3. ***I wasn't sure of where to put this topic. Live recording seemed like the correct place for it.*** My friend wants to start a movie review podcast for cheesy 80's & 90's movies. It would be just the two of us and maybe every now and then another guest would be in the conversation. I know there is a lot of them out there but it would just be something for fun. I was debating on using minidisc to record the podcast with, mainly because I already have the equipment and it wouldn't cost us anything to give it a try. I would have to experiment with mic setup and stuff like that but I think it would work out pretty good and on the cheap. Does anyone have suggestions for me or anything that may help? Any input would be appreciated. Is there anyone out there that already uses minidisc to record their podcasts?
  4. I agree. I'm in the USA where minidisc wasn't popular at all. I wanted one when I first saw them in the early-mid 90's. I have about 9 MDLP units and 3 Hi-MD units plus a Sony MDLP deck with my home stereo system. I also have about 300 or so blanks. It's been a while since I last counted them so that is just an estimate. I still have the addiction but it isn't as strong as it was a few years ago.
  5. Apple and other phone companies don't want you to have a digital copy of your music. They would rather you use some type of "cloud" storage or access your music by streaming it. That all costs me data that I have to pay for or not be able to use for Youtube or internet, unless I am on wifi which is only when I am at home. People think I am weird because I have about 40gb of music on my Galaxy Note 3 but I'd rather do that than stream it and use up my data. I personally like having all of my music on my 160gb iPod. I'm not an Apple fanboy at all but they did make some decent products. Surprisingly I've had my 160gb iPod for 7 years and the battery and device itself work just fine. I know how to fix it though if it ever broke though. I have upgraded plenty of old iPods for myself and friends and family. I love my minidiscs but there are sometimes when an iPod is so much easier, like when I'm work. I run heavy equipment and the machines have cassette players in them so I have to use a cassette adapter to listen to my music on a very cheap stereo system anyway, so the quality of minidisc wouldn't make any difference at all. I mainly use my minidiscs to record onto though. although I do have a CA790X in my Fiero so I use minidisc exclusively in that car.
  6. I use mostly SP or LP2 for mixes that I make myself. I only use my Hi-MD for recording a weekly radio show on Sirius XM anymore. I use the Energizer Lithium AA batteries with MD units and they seem to last alot longer than a standard AA battery. @Bigcountry0209 Replacing batteries on ipod classics is not that hard although I have ruined the case of one trying to take it apart. What kind of classics are they? Photo or video models?
  7. I still have that site bookmarked and I just checked it out a few days ago. It's still down and that sucks. I used to look through the "label artwork" threads from time to time just to see kinds of labels people were creating. I miss that thread. So I'm guessing that there is no way for anyone to resurrect it at all? What a shame. :-(
  8. I commented on there also but I'm thinking that it may be a lost cause. Fingers crossed that it isn't though.
  9. How much for shipping the United States? I may be interested in some.
  10. I don't like the gumstick batteries very much either. Any of my units that take a gumstick battery I made sure that I got a AA sidecar for them because I can always get AA's. I haven't tested how long a AA will last in those machines but I'm hoping that it will last at least as long in my AA machines, which is a long time.
  11. I'm not sure if these will help you out but check this out. I've bought some storage racks from this site before but not this kind. http://www.minidiscaccess.com/gestformi.html
  12. I agree and if only I could find some of it at a nice price too. That would be great!!!
  13. Makes me glad that I bought all of my Hi-MD disks before they went up in price. I have about 20 of them and I bought them all in 2009-2010. I thought I was paying alot for them back then and on average I was getting them for around $5 a piece. Crazy how in a few years things can change so much. That seller will never get that much for them, way too overpriced.
  14. I have about 30 or so pre-recorded MD's and I think they are pretty cool. Remember, that you couldn't just go out and buy anything that was new at the time on MD along with CD or cassette because only the music labels that were either owned by Sony or partnered with them (I don't remember exactly) had the new music out on the MD format. So in some cases you had no choice but to buy the CD and then record it onto MD. I wish I would've bought some of those new music MD's back in the 90's because some of the harder to find ones are selling for mad money nowadays and I remember seeing some of them in the stores back in the day too. Not just to sell for some extra money but for some nostalgia too. There is probably some albums that had very limited runs and are hard to find now.
  15. I have had a few tracks that wouldn't transfer even with my MZ-M200. I think they were NetMD tracks too and they wouldn't transfer at all. Not sure why though since I thought that machine would transfer anything.
  16. Good luck. $200 sounds a little low for everything you listed. I would give you at least $300 for them. Mainly just because I know you need the money, and I know that feeling. It sucks big time. Good luck to you.
  17. I used to buy up auction lots on Ebay with anywhere from 20-50 minidiscs in them for like $20 or so, but that was a couple of years ago (like 2010 or so). Now, I'm finding 2 or 3 singles minidiscs selling for that much. That was a fun time going through all the music that was on them although most of it wasn't my style. It was still fun though. I miss being able to do that. Most people that I know have only heard of minidisc because I mention them a good bit. I wish I would've gotten into them back in the 90's instead of the early 2000's.
  18. I just saw this article on Yahoo. On the main page it had a picture of a Hi-MD player and a Hi-MD disc. There is a link to a slide show at the bottom of the article. The article doesn't mention minidiscs at all but photo number 15 in the slideshow is about the minidisc. Here is the link. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/sony-s-hit-factory-running-out-of-hits-193703861.html
  19. Good song. It's in the movie Haggard which stars Bam Margera and Ryan Dunn and the rest of the CKY crew.
  20. I certainly hope this is the case. I am using Windows 7 64-bit so I will try and use the NH-900 the next time that I upload and see if it works. That way I can save the wear and tear on my MZ-M200. I was thinking about getting another NH-900 one of these days. My other Hi-MD unit is an MZ-RH910. I only have 3 of them right now. Thank you for your $0.02, it is much appreciated.
  21. Thank you for the responses. I'm only wondering because I record a Sirius XM radio show every week in Hi-SP (the show is only 3 hours long but it record for almost the full hours). I record it with one of my other Hi-MD units (MZ-NH900) and then upload it with my MZ-M200. So basically my MZ-M200 get used at least once a week to upload a full (almost) 8 hours of content. I'm just hoping that the MZ-NH900 lasts me for a while. Does anyone have any experience with how long a recording head will last?
  22. I'm not sure if this has been asked before but, I have an MZ-M200 and I used to record shows with it. After I dropped it once or twice and didn't cause any damage, I decided to just use it upload to my computer. So that is my question, does uploading wear out the record head at all? I'm curious as to how long this will last me if all I'm doing is uploading stuff I've recorded with it.
  23. 1. How old were you when you first 'bought into' the format? 25 in 2003. Although I remember wanting to get into MD back in the mid-90's, in my high school years, but it just wasn't very affordable for me to do back then. 2. Do you still regularly use your very first player? Yes, I use it to record music off of the computer. 3. Do you regularly 'use' your items, or are some purely of interest as a 'collector'? I use them a good bit but in recent years I have slowed down on collecting them. I do have some disks that are still sealed and I plan on keeping them for my collection. 4. Do you listen to 'new' music on your discs, or prefer to keep the format for music 'of the era'? Yes. Although I do like picking up some old MD albums which is nice because alot of it is music I listened to in the 90's. 5. Do you own more items than you can 'practically use'? Yes & no. I have 12 portable players (9 MDLP & 3 Hi-MD) but only 1 car stereo with MDLP and a home deck with MDLP. 6. Did you 'go away' from MiniDisc', only to return to it at a later date? I seem to go through phases where I use it alot and other times when I don't use it very much. Although I do use MD at least once a week when I record and upload a radio program from Sirius XM (with one of my Hi-MD recorders & in Hi-SP) for my own personal listening enjoyment later on. I do have a 160GB Ipod that I use to listen to music while I'm at work but that's just because it is the most simple solution for that. 7. Do you associate use of your player with 'fond memories', or is it a purely 'practical' consideration? Kind of both. I've been using them to record concerts and local band concerts for a little over 5 years now. Those recordings are fond memories for me but the fact that MD was the most logical choice to record them makes it a practical decision. I already had a couple of MD recorders so all I had to do was buy some microphones and I was able to record stuff. No need to buy more equipment in order to record. Plus most of my portable MD units takes 1 AA battery, which I can buy anywhere so I will always be able to power up and use my little machines.
  24. I try to only use machines that use AA batteries because I know I will always be able to find them. Any experience I've had with gumstick batteries hasn't been good, just because they didn't last as long as I thought they should've. That's why all of my machines that take a gumstick battery also have a AA sidecar so all I need are AA's.
