  1. Actually I won it on eBay UK, and that is how I got mine, however, there may be a user on this board from either Europe or the UK who can sell you one or get one for you.
  2. I own an MZ-RH710 I imported from the U.K., and then after doing the volume/EQ hack, I teamed it up with a pair of MDR-EX85SL BLACK and a black RM-MC60 remote control, for use with my inline skate gear, and I just enjoy using it when I skate. Unlike the US/Canada equivalent, the MZ-DH710 (don't get the two confused) the MZ-RH710 has a remote/phones jack, in which certainly helps and it is even compatible with LCD remotes (such as the RM-MC40ELK, highly recommended!) as well. By the way, you need to know about the good-old "volume/EQ hack" for the European units, as I think it would be of GREAT service to you. The link to it is right here on this board and the link is: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9752
  3. Actually, the NH600 and 700 units are what we call "deadstock" or "new old stock" (brand new, discontinued, sealed and never used) that MiniDisc Access bought from Sony Australia when they discontinued both the MiniDisc and Hi-MD formats in that great nation Down Under. I currently own two NH700 units because I need a backup units in case the unit "gives up the inevitable ghost" and goes out on you. When it comes to the DC power adapter (AC-ES3010K) that is supplied with it, it is one set for 240v AC (Austrailan house current), built if you can find the U.S. version (120v AC) of this same DC adapter through Sony DAPC at this link: http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/acce...ortable%20Audio It says it works with the MZ-NH900, but it will also work with the 600 and 700 (the adapter stock supplied with them) units as well.
  4. I have already stocked up on blank Hi-MD's and standard MD's, just in case Sony tries to lobby along with their buddies at both the RIAA and MPAA to force even online retailers such as MiniDisco (I get my Hi-MDs from them, HMD1GL blue series at that), and also on eBay to ban sales of them, like they did with the DVD/VHS Macrovision and SCMS override "black box" units because Sony knows there are those of us who do own pro (SCMS/DRM-free) decks (such as my MDS-E10 and my HHB CDR-850), and use the blanks and decks for pro-level applications such as making MD compilations and burning CDs of them as backups for personal use in programs like SonicStage. SCMS? No problem, just get a pro deck instead of a consumer deck!!!, they are twice the price because they are twice as packed as those crappy home units you buy at Circuit City or Best Buy.
  5. I went to clean out (bought 6 5-packs today out of the stock 9) whatever stock of Sony Premium Gold Series MDs they had left at Best Buy down in Silverdale today, and plan to go back there this weekend for the rest of them. You can also find more online, not only on eBay, but also at MiniDisco, as well as MiniDisc Access, and MiniDisc Canada. Also I intend to stock up on HMD1GL (second generation Blue series) Hi-MD blanks online (also available from all three) later next week, to use as data storage and also for experimenting with linear PCM recording on my MZ-NH700, after I figure it out. Now IS the "11th hour" for this legendary highly-underrated ATRAC-based format that we have loved since 1992, so get them befor they are gone for good. I have been into the MD format since 1998, and the Hi-MD format since its debut in 2004, and I will never give it up no matter what happens.
  6. Me too. I got MY RH710 unit yesterday and did the hack accordingly, got BOTH custom EQ's, full volume AND editing ability after finding out on this thread that 20 was the US/Canada setting. I checked it out with first my MDR-ERX71SL phones and only noticed a small difference, then I put on both my MDR-E808 and MDR-A34SP phones each, and noticed a bigger difference in volume, similar to me Canadian NH700 unit. I guess it is suicide to use the EX71s, because although they are also 16 ohms (as are the A34 and E808 units), they only have 100dB SPL, while the A34 and E808 phones have 108dB SPL.... BIGGER DIFFERENCE!!! With more SPL means you use less volume to drive the same loudness. Now I am caught in-between using my RM-MC60 I bought for it and buying a black RM-MC38EL from Sony DAPC (originally supplied with RH1 units). for use with my inline skate gear. XTRA THANX to both Ishiyoshi and Karisu for making my weekend when I got my new deadstock RH710 from the UK on eBay!!!
  7. Hey, there is always the Connects2 ASONWHD001, it works with Hi-MD Walkmans as well as MD and NW-HD and NW-A series Walkmans, and it hooks up to your Xplod system with the Unilink system. It reads the Walkman just like a CD changer. You can find out more at http://www.Connects2.com
  8. I got my MZ-RH710 from the UK today, I did the volume hack and got my 2 custom EQ's and a bit more volume (not much difference although it IS louder somehow with the custom EQ), now I have a perfect setup (which also includes an RM-MC60 remote and MDR-EX71SL IEM's) for my inline skate gear and plan to hit the skates three times a week for a much-needed workout, as I am 15 pounds overweight, and need to get into better shape in time for summer. Xtra Thanx 2 both Karisu and Ishiyoshi for the info on the volume hack, it was simple, it wouldn't take Cindy Margolis' brilliant mind to figure it out.
  9. Thank goodness I have an MZ-1, an MDS-E10, an MDS-JE480, TWO MZ-NH700, TWO MDX-65 and TWO MDX-c5970 units. I got into minidisc thanks to my management, Len Enders of Label Cove Entertainment. I also seem to notice fewer and fewer minidisc and H-MD units for sale on eBay, and when they were they were flying off the shelves and there were high bid amounts on the others. This proverbial middle finger is for Sony for disrespecting fans and entusiasts their OWN technology (ATRAC and the MiniDisc/Hi-MD forget) after 15 years
  10. MZ-NH600 and NH700 units are still available at MiniDisc Access at this link: http://www.minidiscaccess.com/generic76.html Yes they ARE the Aussie-market model, so rejoice European MiniDisc-heads!!! You don't have to put up with the infamous "Euro-Volume Cap", just get it from MiniDisc Access instead. They also have Bundles in stock, and TONS!!! ...and they ship worldwide, too!!! BTW, RH1 units are also available from them, (the US version) as well,
  11. I just bought a UK Edition of the Sony MZ-RH710, after reading this review on it: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=11669 All I need now is a volume hack for this Euro-capped unit, which goes with my vintage 1990s Case Logic PS-2 Neoprene Cassette Sport Belt (the smaller pouch in this two-pouch design fits post-2000 MD units perfectly), RM-MC60 remote and MDR-EX71SL earbuds for my inline skating gear for this year. Can anybody help with perhaps a link or something? Thanks, Ray Jackson
  12. I agree with that, especially, as you will find out, with a handful of corporate conglomerates (Clear Channel, Rogers, Infinity, Viacom, etc.) run every radio station in North America, and care more about commercials rather than the music they play. Also, avoid the notorious JACK-FM AT ANY COST...... it is CRAP. BTW, I have already put the BBC family of stations on my favorites list. Thanks.
  13. It IS a sad day for independent thinking people and all struggling musicians around the world, let alone here in the U.S.A. Corporate America once again screws the little guy with this ruling, as an independent musician (and I guess I am speaking for ALL of us), we now have no chance of ever getting heard on a "legitimate" basis, you hit it right on the head, Guitarfxr. The RIAA must be stopped at any cost, before they and their corporate buddies (NewsCorp, Sony/BMG, EMI/Capitol, Universal, etc.) put all of us out of business and force us to listen to the cookie-cutter pop crap that their buddies from Clear Channel and Viacom (to name a few) cram down our throats which are already parched from all this American Idol garbage that gets played over-and-over again, that are starving for something DIFFERENT and against the grain that is the mainstream.
  14. As an independent musician on a small mom & pop label (self-made, HMW/Label Cove), it scares me that the ONLY outlet tha will play artists like myself and others will no longer have a place where WE can get heard on a global basis, and that the courts have ruled in favor of Corporate America and the corporate major labels as opposed to supporting the struggling artists who can't even get their CDs sold at stores (Sam Goody and The Wherehouse sell ONLY major label artists) or get heard on the air (thanks to corporate monopolies like Clear Channel and Viacom practically own 5-10 stations in every market and do not care about US) so we can eventually get signed by a "legitimate" record label run by a corporate conglomerate that ran all the mom & pop labels like mine out of business.
  15. So get the 71SLA's, as they have a newer, more durable cord, right? Is the cord the same density or material as the newer NC22's have?
  16. I am thinking of getting a backup pair of the EX71SL's but also saw a similar version named the EX71SLA, which comes with a different case. Before I get a second pair of EX71SL's, primarily as a backup set for my inline skate gear in case the inevitable cord rot happens, what are the differences, if any, between the older ones and the newer EX71SLA's?

  18. I agree with that, over-hyped and over-priced are not the way to win customers over, it's just that I can't afford Shures or EC's, but I am also no fan of Boses, I mean who the heck would waste $$$ on their units when for 1/3 the money (and I AM on a budget) I can get better with Sonys or for the same price as Bose I can definitely take your advice and get some Shures, I agree with that.
  19. Specifically, he is speaking about the ASONWHD001, which works both with it and any Sony HU with Unilink changer control, it has the latest firmware that will work with your NW-A3000 and all other NW-A, NW-HD, and NetMD/Hi-MD Walkmans with remote control capability.
  20. Boy am I glad I chose the NC22's over the NC6's, they sound GREAT! They make the NC6's sound like that half-baked crap you get from Target or Wal-Mart (lotsa luck trying to get the NC22's from them!), far better definition and far better sound, and just as much bass, in certain genres, well worth the price. I will agree they are no Boses ($$$), but if you want both great sound and no outside noise, and are somewhat on a budget, I highly recommend them. They will go well with my MZ-NH700 and RM-MC40ELK for years to come, believe me. My pics for Ishii (Ishiyoshi) to use on the ATRACLife Blog will be up by the end of the week.
  21. I own a GREAT pair of MDR-NC22 noise canceling IEM's that I proudly use with my MZ-NH700, and I always wondered what the differences are between my phones and the supplied MDR-NC022 IEM's that come bundled with the new NW-S7xx series of Walkman units. Do the NC022's come with a shorter cord (SP/SL version-style) that the NC22's, as I am a bit frustrated with the over-lengthy 1.5m cord of the NC22's? Will the NC022's work with other units, and with my RM-MC40ELK remote I use with the MZ-NH700?, and Are there any significant differences in SQ and in definition, as they are both N.U.D.E EX Series Noise Canceling IEMs with similar physical characteristics? Thanks, I await both your replies, and your reviews.
  22. In the meantime, you can always look for the already-available Connects 2 ASONWHD001 (a.k.a. the MSC-01) as it will work with all Sony Xplod decks with Unilink inputs and CD TEXT capability and it also works with my MZ-NH700 and all Hi-MD Walkman units as well as the NW-HD and NW-A series of Network Walkmans. Check out the sister forum, the AtracLife Colloquium for more details.

    Hi-MD Deck?

You can get the MD-105 FX and also the MD-133 direct from Audio Cubes, and they even include the power converter needed to operate the Japanese 100 VAC here in the US on our 120 VAC system, but, the manual on each is only in Japanese, but the LED flourescent display on both is in English. If you already know how to operate a standard MD deck it should not take the brains of a bikini model, like my former high school classmate Cindy Margolis also at http://www.myspace.com/cindymargolis to figure out how to use it. PIECE OF CAKE.
  24. When it comes to overall sound quality as well as noise canceling capability, I could hardly disagree, I would DEFINITELY go for the NC22's as I reviewed on a thread on this board already http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=18875 and also on ATRACLife at http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3403 Just the overall definition and clarity of each note throughout the frequency spectrum leads me more to them, despite the NC6's deeper, heavier bass (good for rap/hip-hop, but not for much else, in which I have to admit, drowns out most other frequencies and does sound muddy at times.
  25. I myself use Energizer E2 Lithium batteries that you would normally use for a Cyber-shot camera, I USED TO use E2 Titanium, but you bring up a pretty good point about current, I stupidly sold the supplied AC-ES3010K power adapter (1 amp) in favor of (and without knowing it was a lower current) AC-ES305K (500mA) from an MZ-N510CK and a matching OEM DCC-E2305 (500mA) 3 V car adapter instead of the correct one, a DCC-E230 (1 amp), thinking they both work the same..... not to be. Thanks for bringing up the important fact that Hi-MD decks drain MORE current and need more juice (amps) than say their NetMD/MD counterparts, so indeed I will get the correct adapter (the AC-ES3010K) from the Sony DAPC (they say it works with the MZ-NH900, as the NH700 is not aailable in the U.S., so naturally it is not listed on the site) but it IS the same one, as I DO have a spare NH700 unit from Australia, the only difference between the two being the AC voltage).
