  1. I had to buy it myself haha, I thought the price I paid for the hd5 wasnt too much for me to get the remote, I wasnt going to get caught navigating with my hd5 in my hand all the time (like alot of other mp3 players which i wont name) , and my earphones are the short cord versions, the attatchment bit of cable you get with them just adds extra weight which i didnt like. The remote really is a no brainer as im sure you've experienced. It keeps the unit safe in ur pocket, and lets you do everything you can do on the unit itself. Using any other remote would be pointless, unless you had unit mode on and had it shuffle play mode for all the tracks on you hd5, like a giant random machine. I know the remote is silver, and doesnt match the black hd5 as well as the silver, but i thought the whole reason why im getting the remote is to keep my hd5 hidden and safe in my pocket, no one will even see it. But IMO, i think they do look pretty hot together
  2. yeah, earbuds are great when on the go. I use my ex81's on my hd5, and they do sound very good. I am not so sure about getting etys, mostly because of all ive heard about build quality issues, and at the price they are, those stories just make me cringe. I could have forked out the extra cash for etys instead of my ath-900's, god knows they would have got more use, on my r909, and hd5, but the world can be very unforgiving out there, and if anything happened to earphones as pricey as ety;s i would be a mess. For home use, im sure the etys are amazing, with no extra outdoor noise, along with their isolating properties, they probably immerse you even more, in quality and detail even more than my ath-900's. The only problem i have with earbuds is that they are not made to last. The quality of the rubber on my ex81's being a prime example, fraying. I should be glad my ex81's have lasted me almost a year, but for the price tag, i was hoping for better materials. I am actually going in the other direction to you, haha, having ordered a pair of ath-fc7's, to accomodate my outdoor needs. Depending on how they sound out in the real world, i will get another pair of ex81's further down the line, and use the fc7's at home with my portables, to prolong the life of my ath-900's. Welcome to the earphone scene chris, I hope you are able to take better care of your ex81's than i was. For their price tag, their sound really is worth the money.
  3. what are the point in the lyrics being on sonic stage? are there any devices other than the vaio pocket that the lyrics can actually be viewed?
  4. one word of advice, for any new people to this, make sure u heed the words, not in excess. Or even, dont buffer unless the screen is in really bad shape. I buffd the screen of my r909 and ended up spending ages trying to clear the edges of the screen from tooth paste.
  5. Whats in the box: Screens: Size Comparisons: Some shabby videos from my camera phone turned into GIF's for easy access:
  6. Monitoring while I record the song 'Communication' by The Cardigans, in SP on my JB980. Will be re-recording the whole album (long gone before daylight), to see if I can discern between SP and LP2. By the way, this album feckin rules!! If you have liked the cardigans at all, it is a disgrace not to own it. I'm ashamed i didnt get it sooner!
  7. I prefer the HD5 I own one obviously. The HD1 looked sick with the brushed aluminium, but it was a real stinker with the atrac only thing . The vaio pocket's screen is cool, im just against the bulge at the one end and its size overall. The new A series stuff looks cool, but i think its safe to say it wont look so cool after you;ve held it in your hands..fingerprints. It is without further ado, that i give the award to the HD5. I wont give any brownie points to the hd3 because of the poorly legible screen.
