My Sony A829 Review & Pictorial
Old skool D replied to Old skool D's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
OK party people in the place: To answer your questions: Hi Anthony, and thanks for the question. My A808 feels heavier than my A829, thant that could be because of the materials used in it's make up. watching videos on the unit ( it comes with 4 videos already on the player) is enjoyable. A bigger screen does make a difference( and this from someone who isn't into video watching big time) To conclude, whilst it is lighter than my A808, it seems soild enough for me, and with a decent protective cover, I think it will be fine. Hi Ascariss. I would say the majority of the unit is plastic, with the metal bits being around the perimeter of the unit( similar to my A808) and round the play button. Hey Juli The unit is a lovely size indeed. I have changed the sound settings to meet my sound requirements, and well you know how Sony do! SQ is their thing. I will confirm after I have uploaded some tracks( which i will do this afternoon) and report back. Thus far, to my ears it is as good as my A808(whcih is praise indeed) Hey Dura, please see comments ref build quality above. I'll post more on SQ later. Markey I rang Sony style to clarify the situation, and after muct toing & throwing, they called me back to tell me that the units were NOT meat to come with any Bluetooth headphones. They are accessories. I laughed and said that what was the point of having a bluetooth connectivity, with no bluetooth headphones to utilise it with. I was then told that Sony provide four tpes of headphones(see link below) https://www.sonystyle.co.uk/SonyStyle/b2c/d...002BC29B86)/.do which range from 55 GBP to 130 GBP!!!!!!! Don't you love Sony. I'll have a look around for some myself, but would welcome any heads up to some that I could use If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask, but remember I'm no audio expert -

Markey ref the photos. I'll try & post some later tonight. First impressions of the unit are good. The built of the unit isn't as plasticy as I was lead to believe. THe SQ ( I have only listened to the songs that come with the unit, and after I had adjusted the EQ & other sound settings) is superb as you'd expect from a Sony DAP. Like I say, tomorrow, I plan to upload the WMP CD rom and add some tracks onto the unit. -

Greetings all. day off work today, and the UPS man has just delivered my new baby. I'll try & post some decent photos later on today

Too late. Busted.

Well, it looks like I'll be getting the 16GB in a few days. I had pre-ordered form the Sony Style, but changed my mind, and sent an e-mail to that effect. I just received an e-mail telling me that it has been dispatched. I'll try & post some pics and a review soon ( don't tell the wife !!!! )

Markey To be honest I'd never buy any product from a Sony Centre. Most people on this board have more knowledge than the staff employed within these stores, plus the prices they quote are outrageous. It's cheaper on-line ( I think Amazon are selling them for 209 GBP)

Connect Music Store's demise, whilst sad, doesn't affect me. I have downloaded stuff in the past, but I'm more Old skool D with my music, and I prefer a physical CD/LP with which to work from. This flis in the face of the modern listener. I do hope Bands/groups continue to offer a physical product, through I fear that in the future this may be a thing of the past.
-
Exactly. I currently use a plastic see through cover for my A808. I've only taken it out of said case 3 or 3 times. Looks brand new.
-
To be honest with ya'll I'm not bothered if the new Sony DAPs have a plastic covering. I would like to have 16GB of space to play with, ref my music. I'm not bothered about Videos, gapless or on-the-fly play lists. The joy I have on my daily commute is listening to my Library of Songs on Shuffle, not knowing which song will play next. For my needs 16GB will be enough. Once I get this 16GB, that will be it for now. But then again I'm always saying that

Hi Juli I'm still excited about the 16GB, and I still plan to get it. I've read the comments regarding it on different posts: most seem neutral to negative. I'll take my time & save up. Hopefully by then there may be a price drop

People, I've had to backtrack 225 GBP was to hot for me, so I've had to cancel my order. I think I'll wait for the price to decrease.
-
I have just checked on Amazom & Apple ref the 16Gb Ipod touch, which retails for:229 GBO on the former, and 269 on the later sites mentioned. So 225 isn't to bad. I know you get Wi-fi, with the ipod touch, among other things, but, I'm more concerned about music & the SQ. I think I'll pre-order one, and see what the post man brings me in April !

Many Thanks for the Link. Now I don't wanna get ahead of myself, and as I write I,m having my breakfast, so ( be still my beating heart) I think we may have lift off.

No Worries Shirley Yes it is hard work loving a Company that goes out of it's way to switch people off it products by silly global marketing schemes!

Well as Promised, I spoke with & visited Sony to see what I could find out. Having got through to Sony's UK helpline I was told that there was no rhyme or reason why some countries had the 16GB, and others didn't. That was just the way it was. When I mentioned that that made no sense at all, i was met with a smirk, and well that's the way it is. Helpful? Not very. The Sony centre were a little bit more forthcoming. The guy I spoke to said that he imagined that Sony would increase thier capacity to 16GB, and could not understand why it was availble in some countries, and not others. He did say, that SQ wise it wouldn't be much better than the 800, and 810 series, just a bigger screen (slightly) and bluetooth. He even mentioned that the bluetooth headphones couldn't even compare with my CX300's. He wasn't really sold on the bluetooth feature. The thing is, even if the 16GB was availble in the UK, what price would it be going for? I think the 4 GB starts at 175 GBP, so, as I thought, the 16GB will be 220 upwards. I've decided to stick with my 808 for now, and later on this year, I'll order the 16GB from the US. Happy shopping

Sony NWZ-A820 (Reality Check - Screen size!)
Old skool D replied to WillieDynamite's question in Audio
Hi WillieDynamite. Welcome to ATRAClife To be honest with you I'm more concerned with more storage capacity, then screen size, as I'm only concerned about listening to music, as opposed to watching films.tv shows etc. If you look on you tube, MP3 generation do a live demo of the new A820 series. You may get an idea of the true size from that. ( the link is in one of the previous pages on this post) -
Shirley why not order from the US? The pound to the dollor is good, and no worries about lauguage issues.
-
Hi Shirley yes you are right. Sony are the kings of mis-information. Still, I 'll give it a go & report anything I find.
-
To be honest, whilst I agree with all the sentiments expressed, I'm not surprised. It's comes with the territory of liking/supporting Sony Products. Today I plan to ring Sony's help line, and visit a Sony centre( Tottenham), and get SOMEONE to tell me what's, what!

Is anyone aware of the US release date for these players? I know they are slated to hit the Japanese market sometime this month, can I assume that the US are likely to get these sometime in April?
