Sony NW-A806 vs. Sony NW-S706F: Sound Quality
veggiemusician replied to depeschie's question in Audio
It may be USB2 but speeds are slow as USB1.1! -
All I have heard is that the E01x does not have hissing like earlier sonyplayers.

I compleatly dissagree with your post and Im not if you have really listened to the UM2s to make an Inteligent comment... The earphones you mentioned are not even near the same leauge as the UM2's which also have a newer driver technology than EX90 HJE70's etc. The UM2's have a much bigger sound and clarity. There is as much difference between stock apple earbuds to the HJE 70 as there is from the HJE70 to the UM2s. Out of the box EX90s are not great in my opinion - but once modded they can start to get near Shure E4 standards if not better them.
-
The Bass of the UM2s are far from bloted??! Users that have this problem have not tried other tips - the suplied crumply's are awful and give a muffled bassy sound. Bigflances or sony EX tips work best. The E500/SE530 have a colder sound than the UM2s and dont have the depth of bass. They are very detailed if a little too much - they do bring out treble more than UM2's.
-
Im trying to convince a programming friend of mine to write a programme that will basicly look like a drag n drop window where I drag n drop MP3s into sony mp3 players. It can also make playlists and all the other bells n whistles. At very worst get a windows mediaplay11 plugin that will also rip and suport atrac. I dont mind Sonicstage but wish for simple drag n drop.

I think Westone UM2 would be a better match with the A808 than the Shures. The E500 will bring out the treble of the A808s too much and they are bass shy compaired to UM2s. They are meny on headfi forum that perfer UM2s over E500s. I think UM2s sound best with bright lively mp3 players. My UM2s sound a bit too dark with my S705 and have to add a bit of treble to eq. If you have S700 shure E500s would be best If you got the A800 Westone UM2s

Im uninpressed with ZVM - its fine but wont sent the world alight. The 4150 has a very dry gritty sound thats quite bright(in a good way - not tinny or harsh)... yet has a deep bass grunt Ive been unable to find in any other MP3 player. I do use the Superbass function on it - and keep EQ flat.
-
Do you have a link? Does not sound like the same player - The 4150 never has come with earphones! on full bass settings my eyeballs wobble on a bassy track on my UM2's. Im a Professional musician with 4 degree's in music so I trust my ears.... The iPaq beats most mp3 players out there... its got the same audio chip set as iriver H140. Also its got a great amp on it!
-
I listen to classical, pop and dance. Being a classical musician I like my classical music bassy and full - thats how it sounds sitting in orchestra!

I have the bundled S705 earphones, EX90s and Westone UM2. Now Ive modded my EX90s by putting clingfilm over the 3 vents - this improves both sound quality and isolation. Have a look at my ex90 post on headfi. The EX90s(modded) do sound much better than the NC022's - theres more bass and treble clarity. Also the volume is louder. Isolation is about the same as with the NC022's turn on.... I dont think the NC022's isloate very well on their own! The UM2s beat both - as you would expect for a $300 pair of earphones.... I use sony EX buds on mine and they islolate beter than with NC turned on with NC022's. My advice is stick with the NC022's as they are still very good for "free" phones. Unless they brake theres no real reason to upgrade.
-
I agree the S705 head phones are very good - only a notch or two behind my modded EX90s.
-
I think Im going to wait for the A808 to comedown in price - I payed £49 for my 2 gig S705 and will wait till 8 gig A808 gets under £150 before I think about it. I listened to on in shop and thought it sounded very good, but only had shop headphones to listen to - not EX82s. I do think the S705 is a bit better than ZEN Vision M - may be not as clear as the Zen but I find it more musicial.... However my iPaq 4150 as an audio player trashes the S705, ZVM and even A808 in sound quality. It has a much cleaner and drier sound - yet bass extends a LOT deeper than my S705 yet its not boomy at all.
-
On the back of your headphones you will see 3 vents.... cover them with about 3-4 layers of clingfilm or something similar. You will find sound much better and will isloate almost as good as normal IEMs enjoy!
-
I dont like the Sony EX71/81 earphones - poor boomy bass, shrill highs and takes a lot of volume to drive them! Prob give her my JVC FX33 which are a lot better!
-
She has one problem - the suplied headphones are too big for her ears... So have to think of small headphones now!
-
Although I think there are much better software out there, I think SS is fine for a Flashplayer. Infact I feel that for a beginner SS is easier to rip a CD and transfer it to the MP3 player than WMP11. I think the key is to drag n drop albums into SS rather than have it scan for them.
-
Well gave it to her and she was overjoyed... esp as it was pink! She said she had a tape walkman years ago and it was soo big - so glad I didnt get the CD player. She does not believe that the E002 is an mp3 player as its same size as her flash memory stick lol.

Hi I would like to Convert 20gig worth of MP3's that are very high bitrate to Atrac3Plus 96 or 128 and store them on a DVD for now so I can retrieve them when I need them. I dont have much harddisk space so need to free up some space. I would like to keep the origional MP3s intack. I will keep highbiterate mp3s for my Zen Vision M and low atrac for my S705 to be used in gym. Can sonicstage do this or is there a simple programme that can do this?
-
I dont really hear any difference using clearstereo, maybe its because I use high bitrate mp3s! Someday I have a play round with different atrac settings to see if I can hear anything? For EQ i use 2 settings different earpnones Stock earphones Clearbass +3 then +2 0 0 0 +1 UM2 Clearbass +2 then +1 0 0 +1 +2 Another thing, on the A80* players, theres two cordlenth settings for Clearstereo - on my S705 its just on and off?
-
I only had the choice of Pink or Silver as stocks where low. So got her pink! Looked at other makes but for same price the units looked cheaper than the Sony. I have a S705 that Im very happy with.
-
I did a test... encoded a typical 1 hour CD to Atrac3plus 64 and it came out as 28mb - the sound was ok, a little dull and some harshness in high sounds but fine to listen to if you out n about or traveling. So we looking at 17 Albums on the NWE003 at one time - 17 hours of music.... not too bad really considering she will be happy with bundled headphones... the Hifi she listens too is an el cheepo Sony micro. Atrac@96 did sound better and could fit 11-12 albums at one time - I will prob setup Sonicstage to encode at that rate as she listens to a lot of folk acoustic music Atrac@128 deffo sounded best... Id say on par with mp3@192 - thats 9 albums per NW-E002. Think it will be ok for her.
-
I'm just worried that 512mb is quite small thinking about it now - prob can get 12 CDs at Atrac3+ 96 which should sound acceptible??
-
Both are £29 and ones a CD Player the other MP3 player. My Girlfriend has just finished uni and wanted to get her something small as a pressy - shes never had a walkman or any portible audio player before - so I just got her a Pink Sony NWE002 as it was not expensive incase she didnt use it much... but now I see the Sony DNE330 for same price - what would you think a girl would like better as a pressy? I see her on Thursday next!
