Hey "Me," what does STFU mean? Dude this is a funny thread.
-
Is PCM the same thing as SPDIF? Do optical, PCM, and SPDIF use the same data and just have a different transfer medium?
-
RRRRRRRRRRiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhttttttt..... Why are you posting this on an md forum? I agree with you that true silence is hard to find and is very valuble, and I can understand how it can be seen as a type of pollution...but dangerous to ecosystems, like trees aren't going to grow as well because they can hear an airplane in the sky? What's the point of sending recordings of nothing to someone? When I don't type, I hear silence...and I mean silence, I don't hear a heater or an ac unit and my comp turned off the fan and the hard drive cause I'm not using it so I don't even hear that...

Define obsolete. Just because a new set of recorders comes out doesn't mean the old recorders become obsolete. I consider "obsolete" to be an MZ-R70 that can't read MDLP tracks, even though I use mine almost everyday now. Just because something is "obsolete" doesn't mean it isn't good stuff.

Yeah that thread awhile ago...I resolved what actually laptop it is cause I own it now. No where under it does it say where to purchase the netmd bays; I take pride in not re-asking the same questions! Thanks for the tips guys, I'll check into those.

You need to change the recording mode on your unit and then turn up the volume on your computer's mixer.
-
Why is it definetly not 74 minutes? it should be within a few seconds of 74 minutes...unless you're recording in mono, in which case you'd have twice that...148 minutes.

Got it figured out. The disc I was trying to record is "PSI," by Pitchshifter. Copyright managment...my md occansionally said "no copy," and made all those track marks. It doesn't happen with other cd's though...another weird factor is that I was using a cd-r made from the original cd using nero to make a perfect cd image. I'm going to continue research and see if it was the cd-r or the cd image that is causing the problems. I still welcome input on how to defeat this or what's actually going on...as of right now, I'm just converting the entire cd to wave and then burning it to a cd-rw right now. I'll see if that works in just a sec.

OK so my stereo cd burning unit only has a coaxial out, so I just went out and bought a coax to optical converter. Everything works wondefully, except if I record a cd with 12 tracks, the md (MZ-R70) will detect all 12 tracks...but then when it writes the TOC it writes the max number of tracks possible. I would think it's something wrong the converter, except this also happens on my brother's cd player (has an actual optical output.) It's really weird, like when the cd stops playing and the signal stops, the md pauses like it should and says it is on the 12th track. Nut then I push stop, and it writes as many tracks as possible to the toc. The way it plays back is the first 253 tracks are like the first 20 seconds of the recording and then the last track is the rest of the recording. It's really pissing me off because it's a stupid problem and my unit isn't damaged and shouldn't be acting up like this. Any ideas?
-
Back to earlier in the thread...what equipment is needed to do a TOC clone, and how do you do it? That could be useful...
-
Yanno, that sounds like it would work. I highly doubt that openmg actually deals with the audio files because that would leave a window for audio uploading hackers. Congrats, you may have found one positive side to the thing has been pissing us all off...

I know it's the unit for the NV series, I own a PCG-NV200 CTO Vaio laptop. What do you mean buy it from Europe or Japan, import it? I expect importing it...I mean does anyone know where (as in what site I can go to) I can purchase the unit?
-
Excellent work, TGM! This is getting a big fat sticky on it. I hope you don't mind that I'm changing the title of the thread for clarification reasons.

Now now guys. Let's settle down.

so I guess since no one responded, no one knows....

Well, I don't see why you can't paint it IF you don't get any paint on the internals. I recommend taking the player apart and just painting the casing. It's really easy. From my experience with taking apart players (all three players I own, see below,) here's my recommended procedure: Open the unit and take out md, keep the lid open. Take out all the screws (8?), first from the main unit and then the lid. Fold back the lid, unscrew all the screws from the little circuit board. Set the lid off to the side and try note to rough up your circuitry. Now pull the other larger part of the casing away from the unit. And there you have it, spray paint away without fear of getting paint on your circuitry. One point though, try not to get paint on the inside because if it flakes it'll get on your internals.

It does make tracks with anything but cd audio...and wav. I already tried that. I've tried windows media, winamp, the paid-for version of musicmatch, wincue (through winamp,) a number of different md recording programs, and so on...sonicstage, the cd player thing on my windows 98 computer, yada yada. I don't have a cd player with an optical out (DAMMIT), so I don't have that option. I guess I could convert stuff to 320 kbps audio first, and even though that is relatively good audio quality, you'll still end up with second gen compression and all that. wish there was a magic solution with this thing, a setting that could be altered or something. Any ideas? I really hate doing manual track marks/having spaces in between connected cd tracks cause I was too lazy to do the track mark myself.
-
I have the mz-r70, and I like it a lot. It's very user friendly. Out of all the md units I have, I actually like the feel of this unit best. Go for it!
-
Reason I ask is that I own a dg2 and I don't get track marks when I try to record cd's...and it pisses me off to no end. Any way to get track marks without having to use a spacer?

weak laser power units in minidisc recorders

Did you know that if you use periods, it becomes easier for others to understand what you're trying to say? -
radeon does have a good idea...

"An omg" is the format that openMG jukebox saves atrac3 files as. So, .omg is like .mp3, except it is atrac3 instead of mp3. you can create omg files by recording them in sonicstage or openmg.

dude, that is actually a great idea. if i wasn't planning on sending my unit to MOV1, I'd do that.
