  1. boba, you're going to need a powered mic and a mic pre-amp, to be able to use a mic+R500's line in. If you don't get much more of an answer, post again here: http://www.minidisct.com/forum/forumdispla...p?s=&forumid=11 A lot of live-recording gurus at that board.

  3. Not with an E909, the best you can do is to turn off the EQ, and crank the volume to max. Even that isn't ideal, thanks to pitifully low Sony outputs... If you can afford a cheap deck (MDS-JE440/JE470) that will yield far better results. If you have a friend who has access to a Sharp (or even Aiwa) unit, you will also get better results, but a deck is the best option.
  4. Ricky, they're all the same, as the NetMD upload software is third party. The N707 is probably the best bang for buck NetMD around, has most features and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
  5. Of course! The only thing you won't be able to do is record in Long Play mode (MDLP) on your N707 and expect them to playback in your SR60. Why, you ask? MDLP is the only technology that isn't backwards-compatible with units the pre-date the tech. You can still record in normal mode (SP, Stereo, whatever you wish to call it) on your N707 and they will play back fine on your SR60, as will MONO modes. Both the SR60 and N707 support MONO. The SR60 is a much bettr first unit (esp today) than then R37. :wink:

  8. The letters after the number generally tell you the colour of the unit, and they can vary between manufactuers.

Ah, but the higher output on Sharps also means you can drive more power hungary headphones, and not be stuck with crappy E805s...Sony units can't even drive KSC-35s properly! :shock: Even Sony D66s, designed for portable use, sound better on non-Sony units!! I think the lower powered amps is so they can claim 200hrs+ battery life, rather than any responsiblity on Sony's part. Sharps still have the advantage in live recording (so EASY to use), plus Sony units don't even sync off analog sources...c'mon... Call me one-eyed if you will, but Sony is a no-no. MacOS 7.1 is easier to use than the menus on Sony portables. If Sharp USA is anything like Panasonic Australia, they'll service your unit - I managed to get a unit that was never sold in Australia fixed. If You do decide to go with the Euro MT190, you'll just need to buy a US spec AC adapter. **My $5**

  12. You also must remember that to delete/modify/edit/etc tracks you downloaded via NetMD, you have to go back to your PC and delete them using OpeMG, otherwise your unit will give you a "TrProtect" error. Real-time recordings are unaffected.
  13. routa, do you have any form of consumer protection in the 'States? I imagine you would. You best bet is to go to them for advice/help. Also, how did you pay? I'm sure that if you paid via CC, you can get your payment cancelled, no matter when you paid? Goodluck, sorry to hear about your misfortune.
  14. sullen, adjusting treble and bass shouldn't have any effect on recording from an optical source, because it is a line signal the volume and EQ should be fixed, no matter what you adjust. And line is ment to sound flat - that is what bass boost and EQs are for!

    phoneyb, I believe that the plug in power supplies 1.5V of power. If your condenser mics don't work, then you'll need a battery box. Try www.soundprofessionals.com
  16. Clueless, what model Sharp are you using? If it is the newer MT770/MT888/MT880/MT899 then you should be able to record from the unit and adjust the levels(? I think), but there is no VU metre on the remote - you still have to monitor these on the unit itself.
  17. The 12ELK is designed to display Japanese/Chinese characters, and this is probably useless to most Westerners. It also has the ugliest text on a remote I've ever seen. 11EL is the way to go, cheaper, and you don't end up paying for features you don't use.
  18. I've found that most devices are clever enough to realise that the battery isn't rechargable - and the R700 (not N707) didn't charge while an alkaline was in the battery compartment. Better to be safe than sorry though, and check what battery you are using before you charge. :wink:
  19. BP, probably the best units for live recording are from Sharp. Try looking at the MD-MT190. It is built like a tank, but not as big as old school R37 era units. Plus it's relatively cheap. Note that it doesn't have NetMD, but is that of use to you? I'd recommend staying away from the R37, it is extremely old and cannot compete with newer units. If you're also going to "upload" via line-in on a soundcard, Sharps have are the better unit to do so.

  21. I read that those Shure ain't worth the packaging they come in...and I'd prefer some ER-4S' anyday of the week. Failing that, the EX70s again - I shall continue to curse the day I sold them...

    I guess I should have tried it before I sent - you tried using other PCs? How about quad boot your system - Win2K, Win98, if Win98 no work then Win95 and then Linux.

Mind you, the N10/E10 ain't out officially here yet, but you can get them from Minidisc Australia for a price that would give Sony Australia excs nightmares, as they'd they'd never match that price... EDIT: BTW, where are you headed Down Under, Leland?
