It could be useful, esp since the SB Live! isn't that flash with line-in - mine seems rather a tad noisy. Have you tried analogue real-time recording from your Sharp? If it isn't to your liking, then perhaps it is worth the investment. BTW, don't double post, please.

You can't change the recording levels on the fly with Panasonic - you must set them to either "SENS HIGH" or "SENS LOW" before you begin recording. One thing the MR220 has going for it is the excellent touch pad, and user friendliness. If "on-the-fly" level ajustments are crucial to you, then look at the Sharp MD-MT888 or MT190.

No problems with Panasonic. My No.1 choice for portable recorders. All Panasonic remotes will display English, and some will also display Japanese characters as well.

NooWaaG, I'd suggest you stick to Sharp. Sony units now have the ability to adjust record levels while recording, but this takes some fiddlin'. Sharp are still far simpler. Sony units have AGC (Auto gain control), but that is really only suited to voice recordings (lectures, etc.). No MD unit I'm aware of has a feature that you request. I can suggest the Sharp MD-MT190, MT877 (if you can still get it) or MT888. All small, and should be relatively cheap. The MT190 is the cheapest, but remains functional and could be an ideal unit.

Any recent Sharp unit with a mic in (I assume) would be suitable for the task. ATRAC 3.5 is an older version, and since then we have seen ATRAC 4, 4.5, R and now S. (S only helps on the playback side of MDLP discs, not the encoding). Sharps use an equivalent to 4.5/Type-R, so you'll have no problems. Some models to checkout: (All Sharp) MD-MT190 MD-MT770/888 IM-MT880/899 MD-DR7

Can you playback other unit's recordings (IE, recordings made from machines OTHER than your MT831) on the Alpine? Do the Alpine recordings playback fine on the Sharp? (Or is it a non-recording head unit?) I can only think of an extremely rare, but big ATRAC compatibility glich...

You do know this is a MiniDisc forum? Regardless, try a coax digital cable. Surely it's in the manual?

Perhaps, if the board gets bigger - but not now. If this were to be implemented, one would hope it would be for registered users only. Even then, we can expect an awful lot of rubbish being posted. Keep it this way - there is always PM or email

Yes NetMD can allow transfers faster than real-time, and the supplied software does have issues with VBR and 192kbps+(?) MP3s. They can be done away with though, if you use the "nero/simple burner" method. I can't give a link now, because the board it is being hosted on seems to be down. The speed depends on what recording mode: it is something like 2x in SP, 16x in LP2 and 32x in LP4 - although take these figures with a pinch of salt. You cannot upload via USB with NetMD though - a gripe of many people. NetMD units can record in real-time too, like their non-NetMD counterparts. Copyright stuff restricts you to 3 "checkouts" per song, before the song can no longer be transfered, unless you "check in" one or more of the song. Most people like NetMD for the fact that you can download at high speed and title on the PC - the latter used to be available to MD PC decks, and with the purchase of third party hardware for Sony and Sharp hardware for Sharp units. I'm not a fan of NetMD - nothing beats the "Old School" way of recording, in real-time! I've never had an MD skip - except when someone nearly destroyed mine. He pumped 2x the required voltage through it, then "tried to beat the anti-skip" by whacking it in his hand. :? So don't worry - they won't skip, unless you're a loser and mistreat your gear. The MZ-R910 is an improved MZ-R909, both without NetMD. The MT200 doesn't have NetMD either. The N10 and MT880 do, as does the Panasonic MR250 which is a beauty. Once you've bought an MD, you won't look back, just make sure you buy which one you think suits your needs.
-
No - I'm saying MP3 sucks at whatever quality, and while I don't like LP2 that much I'd prefer to listen to that, rather than MP3.
-
I'd buy the MR250, as I really don't like Sony units and have had nothing but great experiances from my Panasonic. If you were to get the N1, get the non-Japanese version - the Japanese remote won't do much for you, unless you intend to use Japanese characters to title.
-
The MR220 is a great unit, and would be very similar in operation to your MT15 - with some differences of course - but the unit is a gem.
-
If you can source one, the MT190 from Sharp is a little gem.
-
I've got it, and you don't need drivers - plug 'n record.
-
I rarely listen to LP2 - which means I NEVER listen to MP3, even at 320kbps. Sound wise, nothing can touch MD, except CD.
-
I take it you have looked in your manual, or is it Japanese? Has this just started happening, or have you had the issue for a while? Have you tried a different adapter? And the unit works fine otherwise?
-
You should also consider the size of the HDD recorder - and the fact that most HDD recorders I've seen have crap battery life, and even crapper recording quality. I am no fan of LP2, but I hate MP3 with a passion - given the choice between MP3 at 320 or LP2 at 132, I'll take LP2 thank you very much.
-
The problem could lie with your battery... The unit works fine, otherwise?
-
Omad0n, this is already possible - all you need to do is find the thread you want, and click on the "burn orange" icon that looks like a piece of paper with the tip folded, which is next to the thread title and a small black arrow.

Go for the MX500s, or the KSC-35s if you prefer "street-style" 'phones. Thankfully they sound rather decent. (Don't touch the E818/E828) The E838s lack a bit of bass, and are a bit harsh, the E848s are a nice all-rounder and the E888s are very, very nice but for $130AUD, the MX500s are FAR better value at $37AUD, and come very close to matching, and perhaps surpassing the E888s. For the KSC-35/50s you might want a headphone amp, as the low output on most (ESPECIALLY Sony) MDs can't quite power them to their peak, but an amp is inconvieniant IMO, so I stick with my MX500s and D66s for MD. And most other things too.

The MT99 doesn't even have NetMD, so in this case the N505 is your only choice.
