The R500 made it to US shores too.
-
No - the R900 AC adapter only supplies 3V, while the N10 requires 6V. Head down to Radio Shack (or similar) and pick up a US 6V 500mAh adapter with changable plugs.

Even so, I'd rather protect my hearing now, rather than paying for it later it life.
-
Ahhhh! You beat me to it! EDIT: Us, older? What made you think so?

That's what I'd usually do, have 2, 3 or even 4 discs in SP. But the two CDs I recorded are ment to be listen too one after the other, so rather than change MD as I would have to in SP (or even just using the CDs themselves), I decided to record in LP2. Shocker. I can hear things before they are ment to happen, it sounds "metallic" and just "wrong". :? The CDs are a mix of music and speech, and they sound so much better when recorded in MONO, even for casual listening which is what I do. LP2 took all the enjoyment out of listening, with stereo effects being crackly - worse than having no stereo at all - at least the sound was clear in MONO, which made so much more enjoyable, and backwards compatable with my older recorder. My sole disc that is entirely music in LP2 will soon be redone in 3xSP discs as soon as I can find the CDs again. While much better than the two other LP2 discs, it still doesn't sound clear, and the low end seems bloated while the higher end is clashy... Crazy?

The bass isn't bad on this models, and the treble is fair too. They are decent earbuds.

The S1 does have a backlit LCD, as do: Aiwa F80, F70, F3. Sharp SS323.
-
That is the feature I miss most...all the Sharps have it, Panasonics have it and new Sonys have it, but me deck don't! Anyway...

Ever heard "pre-echo" Leland? That is the most annoying thing about LP2, and the next is that it sounds as if the sound is being played "through a brick wall". Mind you, LP2 is what all my friends record in. *Shudders* It annoys me so much that I re-dubbed two CDs in MONO this arvo. We can only hope that Sony can make LP encoding methods better. Type-S seems like a step in the right direction, but I'll be listening to a JE780 tomorrow to see if it does. My opinion, of course, and LP4 is worse. Shorty, currently Sony would have the upper hand with it's ATRAC encoders, especially in SP mode with Type-R. H.D.E.S. from Panasonic is also excellent, but what version Sharp are using today is anyone's guess. All in all though, the differences between the encoding is small to insignifigant in most cases.

I believe you'll need the English version of OpenMG, and then you'll need to re-install your MT880 driver.
-
Yep, but I'd think that the MJ55 uses the tricky 1.8V - goodluck trying to find an adapter of that spec. :| If you can get a power converter, 110V (I assume you're in the US?) down to 100V. If you should happen to find a 1.8V converter (when you get it, confirm the voltage on the Jap adapter) you'll need one that supplies no less than 500mAh. 1.5V adapters won't work.

Meansmile, line out is not ment to have an EQ of any kind, is not ment to be loud and is not ment to be variable. It's purpose is to supply a clean signal to an amp for amplifying and then you select your EQ/bass settings on your receiver unit.

lumina, nothing beats a Sharp for live recording, or sound reproduction. If you decide against NetMD, grab the DR7. Sharp should soon be releasing a NetMD version of the DR7. (But don't hold your breath) At this time, no one knows a lot about the DR7 - it is due to be released tomorrow! Yay! The R910 is an N1 less NetMD, and a slightly different design. The N10 is an N1+more, and less weight/size but the battery life isn't the best but it is certainly acceptable. CD-->MD in real-time, optically in SP mode lays waste to LP modes, and NetMD quality and is the best way to record. I find that MONO is more useful than LP2. Whatever you buy in Japan will need a US adapter. I'd get the DR7 or MR250, if I were to get something from Japan. Sony units are a pain to use.

It means you can title your tracks/discs while listening to the music.
-
Troy - auto pause being when the deck pauses when the source has stopped? If that is it, then it lacks on my PC3 as well.
-
On my deck, the record button does indeed take the place of the trackmark button.
-
phillyisburning, your best be would to buy a cheap deck with optical out, like the discontinued JE770. As for Mac software, I'm not sure what you want but Sony doesn't make any MD software for Apple gear. (They did, but don't anymore)
-
That happens to a lot of users while recording digitally from PC, so it isn't your equipment. Why this happens I don't know - the sound card is probably sending a continuous signal to the MD even while music isn't playing, unlike CD players.
-
Going from my memory, the software on the N1 CD should work (can anyone confirm?), as long as you have the N10 driver, which you'll get.
-
kupoluvsjchix, I would recommend a recorder. Having just a player would be a hassle, but if you have the dosh, player+deck=unbeatable killa setup. 8) HOWEVER, if you friend with the recorder is prepared to be hasseled to record your latest CD, the there is nothing wrong with the MJ55 - I believe it is the only current "slot" loader around. Plus IIRC the internals light up for night-loading. No issues yet with the MJ55 though, a good thing. The MR230 should have better speakers, but I do doubt that they will be decent, good for casual listening yes - I use my D66 headphones as speakers in a pinch... And durability wise, my Panasonic has stood up to everything, except high voltage, and some fool trying to shake the crap out of it in an attempt to beat the anti-skip. As both these events occured within hours of each other, I can't say for sure which one did the damage but I'd say the voltage.
-
I really doubt any damage would occur - until I get my deck, neither of my MD units had a line-out, even if it is only a headphone-fudge line out... Anyway, line-out just provides a clean signal designed to be amplified by your equipment, while headphone isn't ment to be amped anymore. The difference? Headphone out will probably sound slightly worse on speakers than line out. BTW, you have removed the remote before setting line out? IIRC, you can't use line out with the remote connected.

1. AFAIK, the Japanese drivers will work, but the Jap software (OpenMG, SS) won't work on English OS'. Try hunting around on www.minidisct.com/forum/index.php for links to all the English software you need, but they might not be available anymore, as the demand for such SW caused as huge jump in bandwidth. 2. No, the battery is replaceable. 3. Depends, the N10 and E10 are to celebrate the 10 years MD have been around for consumers. The N1 was the 2002 Sony MD recorder, and I would think that the N10 is the 2003 flagship from Sony. 4. Grab a Euro spec adapter as the Japanese one runs on 100VAC, 60Hz(?). Get one with no more than 6VDC and no less than 500mAh output. 5. You bet.

Mecano, ebay is indeed the best place for old-schoolers, and the prices are ridiculously cheap. If nothing there takes your fancy, then the R37 is basically a "budget" R50, with most components in common. The headphone amp may disappoint but the line out is great. Ask me, he should know.

pcombs, it seems that Sony N.A. doesn't see any demand for home decks, even us here in Australia (and New Zealand!) Have had the JE480, JE780 and JB980 available for quite some time now.
