addressing the marketing and the pushing of the product HIMD may not be soo attractive to sony as we may think now especially in this day and age where there's numerous legislations being passed and all sorts of legal fences being put up linking to piracy.. and now it's getting pretty tough on the makers of the devices which these legal busters see as the cause or part reason to all this illegal downloading and sharing of media where as it's the p2p networks who's responsible for this all hmm..... have a look at this if it's still valid http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5280384.h...html?tag=adnews

you know that's a good question and i would like to believe so yet i'm not sure because once i was checking this sony portable DVD player and the unit had 2 different lens one appearing red in color and the other had a blue tint to it so who knows........

Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread? [part II]
crazeybt1 replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
hmm.... my best bet is malaysia because all the units i have were bought in the U.S and they all read at the back made in Malaysia units are MZN707, MZG750 and MZR500 and i'm sure my MZR70 is made in malaysia but it's not near me right now  -
pk3000 wrote  well u might not know if it's up to it's limits but i'm sure sony have better technology up their sleves because MD uses MO technology and so does cds and i'll presume that burners can burn up to 7mb per sec on a cd and i'm sure a time better than that could be met by the md.. it's just a matter of time till they find everybody taking into the ipod frenzie (as i'll b doing for a while) but i'm saying this to say sony acts like most parents do.. they know it "all" and we "kids" don't know nothing.. till we retaliate and then it's too late for them to listen right
-
damn son i feel your pain well i'm sorry this had to happen to you so early and your taking it soo serious especially as you must have worked hard for your money. but overall sony make good quality products but just in the fields where they specialize (if i must say that) like their cd players are made with a lot more dedication and a wide range of other products like their televisions, cameras, head phones, speakers, lo fi sterios and the list goes on and on but i agree they lack in the md area.. so you could give them a try in those other fields.

ppk3000 wrote i wouldn't say that at all i think you are saying this based on your experience with a portable MD unit. we all know we can burn 700mbs on a cd in a matter of 3 minutes now(@52x) but that's possible using a cd burner working on dedicated DC current not battery right? now how long do you think it would take a disc man with burning capability to burn that same 700 mbs??? i believe a lot longer at maybe 20- 30 minutes (@4-16x) even. in the case of MDs being used as portable storage devices and a drive was created for just that purpose i'm sure the speeds of reading and writing would be doubled if not trippled or quadrupled so i wouldn't base the read/write speed to hi capacity data mds on our current technology and equipment

 i was mad when i saw that on their site myself ..u can try mailing them @ sales@minidisco.com i didn' tknow they have a forum hmm.. but Aznsilvrboy you could check out http://www.minidiscussion.com/ -
cd and cassette  i wish they'd use mds to it's highest possible capabilities n stop short shooting it.. i'd use mds over mmc cards just because mmc are so easy to lose  careless me over cds because it's obvious that cds get scratched very easily point: i just hope these people see the light before it's too late.. and not just run to those options because it's their only choice becuase then i'm sure some people might retaliate ( cuz they angry) probably asking why didn't they do this before.. in that case i've been doing fine without it all this time i'm ok without it now  Hey sony do your stuff .. i'm all for ya.

well uhh yeah the ribon cable connecting your magnetic head to ur unit's main board is broken...and uhh.. i don't yet know of a cheap way of fixing it  ... i know this because you said that the information is lost right.. ok now sometimes when the lens is off balanced due to some shock the unit may subdue or many such shocks the lens might be set off and so it might be a lil off the point with the magnetic head causing your unit to stick in the TOC edit instead of actually saving the information to the disc . now when that happens you could try tilting the unit or shaking it or something to help the lens or else the lens is going to keep reading and reading and reading trying to find a focal point direct with the magnetic head.. that's the reason for all those mechanical sounds you've been hearing. my advice: you can purchase a cheap unit from Ebay and discect it taking what part you need as long as you got a suadering gun and you know what you're about your good to gone..
-
Thank God for these forums.. i haven't gotten my hands on my unit yet but you guys are really putting some light on some very important issues. it's totally bad that you cannot upload PCM so much for me saying that PCM playback on MDs is a big step up what good is it if it can only be manipulated on the unit which i'm sure is going to take up a lot of time and battery.. tsk tsk.. Michael Walker said is that true? i mean that's the most nonsensical thing i've ever heard
-
Thank you Sir I never thought of it that way.

hmm...u still need to jump a lil bit higher or ur just too short is my point still way outa ur reach...still with the format thing..??? i'm not.. dropping babies on their heads?????? .. what's that all about.. i mean if ur arguments or soo serious i wouldn't wanna play a fighting game with you  babies don't malfunction still can't c the comparson :wacky: oh n yeah i did typing at college silly you...i can type probably better than you 2 but that typing thing is just one of ur reruns u tried that already
-
when you put it in that context you are right but that's clearly understandable but from the statements i was just addressing what i gleaned from them and then again i don't c the big deal about mp3 support that would have to b compulsary cuz that's the most widely used audio format isn't it? and i'm sure there r ppl with 90% to 100% of their music library in mp3 if sony didn't make SS capable of doing conversion from mp3 to Atrac then who would really go out n buy minidisc in the first place..?
-
Skytherx uhh NOPE!! well for one i just made a statement that needed no opinion  Thank you 4 nothing.. but if u don't think minidisc playing PCM don't deserve an applause good for you..n b sure to never do ne recordings in Linear PCM uhh yah..it's opinions...didn't they teach u to distinguish fact from opinion at school..arguing an opinion is normally a waste of time.. ne ways i'm rather glad that u ended ur last statement by putting "media" in bold.. but ur far off friend.. who was even comparing media.. :wacky: you?...oh sorry i wasn't.. i think i was talking about portable audio devices and yeah i can prove beyond a doubt that minidisc players/recorders r way more durable than all HDD based MP3 players and to an extent flash mp3 players..n even to a larger extent discmans.. Yours sincerely Crazey
-
well seeing ur problem is linked to play back..u could try leveling the while recording if ur recording via optical..if ur using the data cable the most i think u could do is use the AVLS..altho that only controls volume n not output it should aid ..

It's GREAT when the salesman really knows the product!
crazeybt1 replied to Meryl Arbing's topic in Minidisc
LOL  now that's poor knowledge.. my experience well.. i went into a "Sony" store (authorized dealers for sony products) and one of their clerks were arguing that minidisc players can't do drag n drop..n that was uhh..a few months after the drop of the MZN 1 Net MD... so i went in the store requesting the unit and he's telling me that Minidisc can only record the traditional way..... ..the bad experience there was that i'm a customer who knows what he was talking about ..more than that sales man even knew beyond the name of minidisc...bcuz of that experience i never wanted to shop at that store again cuz quite frankly ur not supposed to argue with customers right.. -
well not really here's a few reasons y i think so 1 Size...compare to cd players n most mp3 players ..MD units really represent portable 2 Functionality ..compared to cd players where u gotta purchase cdrs continuosly ..with MDs u can purchase a blank for $2.00 n record over n over n over n over again n again on the same disc whenever ur current media gets outa of date for u..( not to mention u might have to buy a cd burner if u don't already have one) 3 now with HI MD u can play lossless PCM Big + huh ( that's what cd players really had over minidisc) 4 Capabilities... remember with a cd player more or less all u can do is listen to music..n play with the same limited features...where as with MDs u can do live digital recordings n record from ne source with an output VS mp3 need for a pc 5 until HI MD, a major significance when comparing portable audio devices was battery life.. where MD units used to lead by miles in battery life..not to mention MD units use easily replacable batteries ( in most cases Rechargables) but even now mp3 players can't keep up with HI MD where battery life have been cut down to half n less 6 Durability for twice the price sounds like a deal to me..cuz mp3s cost in some cases the same price as MD units..but can u drop them like u can with MDs i think absolutely not. ( i always thought buying mp3 players was gambiling with ur money or like tip toeing through life hoping u'll reach death safely) 7 my final opinion is that once u go MD if u haven't yet i doubt u'll go back to nething else..well not soon ne way..Minidisc got it's faults but it's pros out weigh it's cons .. ( some time back there was a section on minidisc Tstation in which mp3 players , disc mans n minidisc players were compared..i don't c it ne more..but that could have been very resourseful if ne 1 know of such links could u post it for Den)
-
hmm... some ppl seem to b confusing themselves... Sony knows that mp3 is a widely used codec how could they not allow their software to b able to convert that codec into that which the MD uses.. if that's the case how could u say that the MD units support mp3 that's totally not true..and as for storing mp3s on the HI MD units n transfering them ..to me doesn't have much to do with support ..cuz the HI MD specs clearly state that the devices will b dubed portable storage devices for all file types.. with those facts in mind.. i don't c how a minidisc player which only plays PCM and ATRAC,ATRAC 2, ATRAC 3 n ATRAC 3 Plus support mp3 when it wasn't even created to manipulate the format..... and Eydaimon from that link u posted when i visited that page there were only 2 reviews available..so i don't c how i could have miss posted  :wacky:
-
you could until now  i think there's a warning at the bottom of the page stating you can't.. you should try to b not soo quick to make soo many posts... there are administrators and moderators who'll b more than happy to give u a hand you could always private message them n u can always check the Faq k http://forums.minidisc.org/faq.php#15

crazeybt1 replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
Skytherx tsk..tsk.. ne who i had my eyes set on a black NH900 2 i detest silver units or atleast the units that everone else have cuz they lack individuality.... and as for MD units reaching the end of the road i doubt that will happen ..Sony might just kill the ability to record from other sourses n just leave the data port on the units therefore probably forcing us to purchase music to record..well that would just about put MDs on the same wavelength with MP3 players..n then on who knows what's gonna b MDs fate...well .. if they wanna cripple America n the economy cut their own throats y don't they.... it's soo sad....
