  1. I think the digital amp is worth the extra money, and I would assume you might have the same train of thought once you heard one yourself. Let me make sure that you're fully informed, the MSRP of the NH1 is $400, whereas the NHF800 is $250. The NH1 is has a magnesium body, opposed to the NHF800 having plastic construction. The NH1 also features a 3-line remote, and the NHF800 has just one. The batteries are different: NH1 with a LIP-4WM lithion-ion battery; the NHF800 features a Rechargeable NiMH AA. The charging cradles are also very different between the two units - the NH1 comes with one that has the USB port on the cradle [as well as the unit itself] and functions as a charger as well, whereas the NHF800 just comes with a basic charging cradle. The NH1 also has date/time stamping and digital pitch control [allows playback speed change without pitch change]. I think it's worth the extra money. They're two completely different units astethically. http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH1.html http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NHF800.html p.s. I've heard that the radio remote doesn't have that strong of a reception. I can't fully confirm that the radio preforms well, but you have to consider the formfactor..maybe you should post in a relevant forum about radio reception on these remotes and see what people have to say.
  2. Thank you for registering with the forums and reminding me that I didn't turn off member posting in this subforum. Please post in the most relevant forum next time, i.e. "Find your Minidisc" in this case. I am moving this thread to such. As for player, do you mean a recorder/player or just player only? What's your budget? What features are most important to you?
  3. You will not be able to play back LP2 or LP4 recordings on the R30. Also, I would not recommend the 410 as a starting unit, as it's shortcomings are numerous and there are quite a few other options within that price range that would suit your needs better.
  4. Moving this to the correct forum, please post in the most relevant forum next time. Welcome to the forums, btw..
  5. Shucks, sounds like you have one of those 1.2mW Euro 710's, capped because of the French regulations. I agree with darkfusion's recommendations, however.
  6. Since I'm not well-versed on where most Minidisc recorders are made, perhaps you can shed some light on the models that you're interested in? If you're not too sure, list some basic features you'd like [netmd, etc] and a price range and we can go from there.
  7. Actually, the DS8 comes with a 4-pole RCA adapter. Nice, eh?
  8. online sites: audiocubes.com bluetin.com minidisco.com minidisc-access.com
  9. I would definitely recommend a Sharp player with an digital amp, like the DS8 or DS70. These are available at audiocubes.com, bluetin.com and a few other retailers. I have a review of the DS8 and pictures in the link in my signature. I'd probably go with the DS70 since it has an equalizer, but most who have the unit say they don't really use that feature. The DS8 is essentially the same unit, without the equalizer and a slightly different look. Both players are within your price range.
  10. I will note that in my research, optical media's lifespan is questionable since it's still relatively new. In proper conditions, it'll last many years, but changing data between discs every half-decade or so is recommended.
  11. Please give more constructive responses than this.. Anyway, it sounds like you have a defective unit. You may want to try using a lens cleaner.. Did the seller say it was in functional condition when he sold it to you? I'd ask him what's up.

    MD to PC

I think you'd need to employ a program that can cut large audio tracks like that, perhaps like cooledit? There's plenty of editors like that out there..perhaps someone will chime in.
  13. I don't think there is any recent players with a miniplug out, but you can always buy an adapter. I'd love to make a recommendation, but what's your price range?
  14. Pre-recorded MD's? Those are pretty obscure these days..try Radiohead?

    MZ-NH3D

The differences between the NH3D and the NH800 are quite apparent. I invite you to check out our product pages: NH3D: http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH3D.html NHF800: http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NHF800.html I'll sum it up, anyways: The NH3D has a 3-line remote, whereas the NHF800 has one. The NH3D has a HD digital amp, whereas the NHF800 has no digital amp at all; a HD digital amp results in much better sound than a unit without. Also, the NH3D features an exquisite charging stand with USB connectivity whereas the NHF800 will most likely just have a charging stand simply for recharging. There are many more differences but I'll leave that for you to see in the aforementioned links.
  16. Moving this to the relevant forum..
  17. The C150 does not support LP formats, as it came out in 1995. For detailed information about the Sony units you're asking about, please check out minidisc.org's equipment browser; I'll post the link that's most relevant to you. all sony MD car units: http://minidisc.org/part_Automobile_Sony.html
  18. I'm not sure about the speed thing with you, as it's blazin' on my side. Try a traceroute? I think I might be able to remove that message you spoke of, but it's not that bad, is it? I'm sure it's not too hard of a MOD, so I'll snoop around and see what I can do. As for the post in the "Old News" section, yes, it is unlocked because I feel it's fair to allow people to reply-only to topics that are still recent. They cannot post new topics there, though.. Not sure about the moderator bit, but you are a moderator in that forum and that's all that matters. Whatever you feel fit to do within your forum go ahead and do so. This place needs a major cleanup, and that's one of the key things that needs to be revamped.
  19. You know, this may have some validity since the whole deal with the beta test for Connect has still not happened..and it's March! If this is for real, they'll announce it at CeBit.
  20. ExtremeStyles, as per D's recommendation, is in. Cache mode is on to further improve preformance, and I must admit the forum is purring quite nicely. We're still having issues with GZip, but it doesn't concern me as much as it used to since things seem pretty sufficent for the time being. I added a word count, and if you have posts but it isn't showing up on your word count, please PM me and I will fix it [granted you follow an instruction I give you]; it works for mostly everybody, however - the info is in each of your posts and in your profile. I have changed the online/offline icons, and also added a googlecounter to the bottom of the index. Can't miss it. I also fixed some code today that's been bugging me for the last week, whereas when you used to be in a subforum or thread it wouldn't show the links to the thread/forum/etc - it would just show a link to "The Minidisc Community Forums" index. Glad that's over with. :rasp: That's all for now.
  21. I will note the bit about the gumsticks is simply not true anymore - they're a dime a dozen on eBay. Make sure you get 1400-1450mAh, and pay no more than $10 for one.
  22. There is another one, actually..and I own it. It's called the MZ-E7W, sorta old school, and I did a pictorial [click on the link in my sig, very neat, has a remote watch]
  23. Coming back to this, I believe that the MZ-R900 will be an excellent starting unit for you to record things with, or a "backup" unit as you put it. It's probably the best unit of 2001.
  24. You're paying a little too much in my mind, but I'd go with the N707.
  25. Believe me when I tell you this that there is an amazing world outside Sony's standards, although recently Sony has caught up to the times. Sharp's latest Minidisc units with digital 1-bit amplifiers have a sound unmatched by just about any portable [even iPod'ers have said this, numerous times] - same goes with the newer generation Kenwoods [check out the review in my sig]. There's actually two types of digital amps in this era, one mostly for better power consumption/etc, and one that has that AND better sound. For example, a unit like the Sharp MD-DS8 [review in my sig] has an advanced digital amp. A unit like the MZ-E10 has a digital amp, but mostly for the power consumption. Sony recently introduced the E720 which has a HD digital amp and is supposedly on par with newer generation Sharp and Kenwood's, and it'll be featured again in the new NH1 I believe. You haven't heard a Minidisc unit you've heard it through one with the aformentioned amp. Seriously.
