  1. When you say links, what do you mean? Links to more information about the HD digital amp? All of the information I've garnered came from user reviews and Sony Japan websites. About the 5.6mhz bit, your assumptions are a little misguided. Some new Sharp bookshelf and home theatre systems carry the 5.6mhz sampling rate, and as far as I know no Kenwood system does. No portable has this kind of sampling rate. S-Master [mostly for home theatre] is quite interesting, but I believe it's a different entity than the HD digital amp. I'm sure the similarities outweigh the differences, though..

  3. Yes, that is correct. You may want to read the FAQ's on minidisc.org before asking such, though.. As for if the other units can do this: Yes, they can, assuming that whatever you recorded was done through whatever input on the unit. Some of the lesser Hi-MD units only have USB as an input, and that's it. I recommend that you look here for information about all of the current Hi-MD units: http://www.minidisc.org/himd_table.html
  4. Thanks for the suggestion.. http://forums.minidisc.org/viewforum.php?f=68 Is this okay?
  5. Before I continue into the realm of support, did you read the instruction manual? http://minidisc.org/manuals/sony/sony_mdm-x4.pdf btw - Welcome to the forums.
  6. So, when you insert the disc, does it spin at all?
  7. This is a very difficult task that I've never heard of anyone accomplishing. I suggest you look into purchasing a backlit remote off eBay, since they're quite cheap these days. Technically, you'd probably need a few things soldered onto the circuit board on the remote, and in the process making sure that you don't make the insides larger than the case holding it.
  8. Erp, you're right. I was in a rush.
  9. That's not entirely true. Some were made in Malaysia, and some were made in Japan. It's called cheap labor. :rasp:
  10. Hi, and welcome to the forums. There is no point to recording in ATRAC3plus on a non-Hi-MD/Network Walkman unit, as it is incompatible. You would need a Hi-MD/Network Walkman to effectively use these bitrates.
  11. I suggest you read: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4171 Make sure you uninstall everything as per iceeedtea's directions, then follow the SonicStage link to SonicStage 2. Give that a shot.
  12. Then the MZ-NH700 may be of interest to you: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH700.html The only drawback is that it doesn't come with a remote that has a LCD, but other than that it'd probably be a great starting unit for you.
  13. Then I suggest you await the new Hi-MD units from Sony for this functionality. What's your budget?
  14. What, my S1? I don't desire to hack the unit. When I used to own a MZ-R700, I did indeed hack that, but it didn't really do anything for me [feature-wise], as the difference wasn't that great. Hacking is different for each unit, so please exercise caution upon attempt.
  15. No one has attempted to hack the N520, yet..when you hack a unit sometimes you're able to access some features that were hidden in the settings, so to speak. Nothing major, but is an interesting endeavor.
  16. This is a newer unit that unfortunately isn't on Minidisc.org's equipment browser [yet], but I have seen the spec sheets and stuff. The headphone jack is regular size. When you say controllers screen, do you mean remote? Most LCD remotes made by Sony do have a backlit feature. I am pretty sure that the N520 does have a backlit remote..
  17. Where'd you get that unit for that price? I'm glad you like the unit..wish I had one myself!
  18. Well, if you don't get a response from someone, then you may want to try an e-tailer or eBay..

  20. Hello there, and welcome to the Minidisc Community Forums. Question - will you want to put the recordings onto the computer in an easy high-speed manner?
  21. About Hi-MD decks - they haven't made one yet. It fhe format booms then one will come steadfast, I imagine..
  22. Silver, look here: http://minidisc.org/himd_mdcenter_news.html I'll quote the relevant words, though:
  23. I will say this - I spoke with Sony for a good bit of time today concerning Hi-MD and a few other things, and the product specialists and support was top notch. I think I've been so exposed to the facade of Sony = b.s. from disgruntled NetMD users that I forgot Sony isn't really that bad. They're actually like a hurt animal on the side of the road, at least in the North American markets. Honestly, Garret, I think you should pick up a Hi-MD unit for the best introduction to the format. NetMD was just a waste of time [not totally, but compared to this it sure feels like it]. Regardless, welcome to the forums and I shall enjoy your further observations. You wacky San Fran'ers. Sonicstage 2: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4210
  24. Christopher

    Can i?

Yes; it will work in any MDLP-capable unit, assuming your recording in LP2/LP4. SP-discs will work in any player.
  25. Minutes; you can have up to the capacity listed on the disc [74 or 80 minutes]. There's an important thing you need to know, though..SP through NetMD is actually the same quality as LP2. Sony was unable to accomplish a true SP high-speed interface, so you're basically getting "rebadged" LP2. Most people can't hear the difference and don't care, however. That always boggled me, since when you record in SP you're obviously doing it for either compatibility or sonic quality. That aside, welcome to the forums.
