Yup, I just looked it up and it is indeed a "mini b"

I've seen plenty of the replacement USB cables for (Hi)MD on eBay for about 1 dollar US.

With all of their tehnology, humans still cannot make pen and paper obsolete.

I can confirm that the RH10 isn't a proprietary (sp?) USB.

Have you tried using a different USB port on your computer?

Currently my avatar is a photograph of my coffee after I poured the creamer in... Very strange looking as you can see. It's not everyday you see a vision of the apocalypse in your coffee.

Just received my brand new MC-RM40ELK remote. Ordered from ebay for $58USD and it shipped from Japan. Was at my door 4 days after the end of the auction! I'm lovin' it!

Listening to a 3xCD various artists compilation released under Digitalis Industries, who released one of my very own albums about a year ago. Various Artists - Gold Leaf Branches 3xCD Compilation [Digitalis Industries, 2005]

I meant stop playing the instrument I was playing at the time (in order to press anything on the recorder), not stop playing the recorder.
-
I hear that, lol... I've made the mistake of having that option off while I was recording one of our jam sessions, it sounded to me that we might be too loud so I peeked at the recorder only to see those spinning arrow thingys. Then I was left with the dilemma of having to either stop playing, or risk possible clipping because I couldn't see the levels.

I think the life of media depends on the quality and the manufacturer. And their measurements can only be speculative because CDs/DVDs/MDs haven't been around long enough for people to know if they will last 50+ years, let alone the equipment to read the media. I do know that I have MDs from ~1993/1994 that still work fine. Also, it would depend on how the media is stored. I do know that with MD you don't have to worry about so much scratching the disc itself like you do with CD/DVD. Personally I don't fully trust any media, and important music files/recordings/etc of mine are usually archived onto at least 3 different kinds. That said, there are a couple posts I have seen here recently discussing the reliability of (Hi)MD as storage/archival media. Do a bit of searching and you should find a few other threads on this.

If it only happens with certain files, than it is most likely SonicStage getting caught up on the mp3 for whatever reason. If you know what albums cause the problem, you can download dBpowerAMP Music Converter from the downloads section here in the forums and use it to convert those albums to WAV. You should them be able to import the WAV files into SonicStage with no problems. I have a feeling the ntdll.dll file is fine, since this only happens with certain mp3 files and not all of your files. Try out the music converter first and let us know what happens.
-
1 - Does this only happen with certain mp3's? 2 - Are you having SonicStage scan folders for files when it crashes, or are you importing individual mp3 files? 3 - Are the mp3 files on your local hard drive or an external drive? -- ntdll.dll is a windows system file. In a worst-case scenario, this file could possibly be corrupt on your system and need to be replaced...

I guess more than anything else, I'm interested in finding out what exactly it's purpose is. I mean, with it removed from startup SonicStage seems to still work fine. At least for my purposes.
-
Even after removing all references to SSAAD.EXE, the next time you run SonicStage, it will put SSAAD.EXE back into your startup.

I think you are onto something here ... In theory then, would you actually use more battery power by not having quick-mode on if you use the player often? Seems that it would take more power to read the system file each time... It would be interesting to experiement to find out for example, how much the HiMD reading the system file drains on the battery -vs- having quick-mode on and the player off for however many minutes...

Yeah I've heard of those, but they actually weren't the norm while I was in school...

I thought 1° = tan 0.0174 0.0174 x 24 = 0.417 EDIT: I could be way off, it's been a long time since I've done any of this stuff. BIG EDIT: I goofed, you were right GreenMachine, that's what I get for not having a calculator handy... lol Although I can show the work for either answer.
-
I came up with: tan(a) = 0.417 = 24° ???
-
tan(A) = opposite / adjacent = 5 / 12 = ??? Does this sound at all right? I'm assuming you need to get the actual angle though as well...

Be sure Quick-Mode is off as well if you want optimum battery life.

Problem with transferring files from MD to PC (again?!)
raintheory replied to Alien_Poop's topic in Minidisc
I suggest trying first to use a different USB port on your computer, as this should reinstall the HiMD drivers if you haven't used that port before. Failing that, and in a worst-case scenario, you can still get the recrdings to your computer (digitally, although realtime) using the TotalRecorder method since you are able to play the discs in SonicStage. There may be others still to chime in with more suggestions, but I would start with trying a different USB port and see what happens. -

Are you able to play the recording back from the HiMD within SonicStage?
