Only problem with that... If the HiMD disc goes bad, easy to replace and inexpensive. If the HD goes bad you are SOL. FLAC/OGG support would be a treat though.
-
I think he is just stating that you could drag the flac/mp3/whatever files over, but also use sonicstage to put the song on the disc to listen. That way you could listen to it and easily move a copy of the file to any computer. At least I think that's what was being explained. Not sure if I explained it any better though...

You can upload recordings from the optical in... But you will need to use MarCs HiMDRenderer to convert the uploaded OMA files to WAV. Analogue recordings can be converted to WAV within SonicStage.
-
I think it will only see physical CDs (or Images that are mounted).
-
As long as you have the image mounted on a drive it should work fine.
-
Well... If you want to use SimpleBurner, the first thing you would have to do is burn either a CD, or a CD image. And then copy that to MD using SimpleBurner. With SonicStage 3.2, you would have to convert the files to WAV before importing and transferring them. You should be able to get about 2h 20m on a HiMD formatted standard MD (HiSP, 256kbps).

Thanks richyu, I was just about to start looking into those! Sol - Is the disc in your recorder a Hi-MD Disc? You might also try plugging in the unit with a non-HiMD disc inserted and see if it picks up the NetMD drivers at all.

It may be worth searching your system for the driver files themselves. It is possible that uninstalling the drivers doesn't actually delete all of the files, and reinstalling them may not actually overwrite all of them correctly. If you search for and find the driver files themselves that are installed, keep a list of the correct file names, and maybe try adding .bak to the files after their extensions and reinstalling the drivers after doing so. ( example... file.sys would rename to file.sys.bak file.inf would rename to file.inf.bak ) I would only recommend trying this if you are comfortable with renaming system files, etc... Since doing so can possibly harm your system and files if you are not sure what you are doing.

True, To me though, since the rechargeable is just that... rechargeable... It would make more sense to run from the rechargeable, and only pull from the external (which usually isn't rechargeable) only when necessary. Therefore the external battery wouldn't need to be replaced as quickly. Doesn't matter much if the rechargeable drains more, since it can be recharged. IMO, it's just kind of silly.

If the CD player has an aux-input, you can plug into that. Alternately, you may have to get an FM-transmitter.

Can i get some entry level Hi-MD recommendations.

If you are going to be simply downloading music from your computer, and have no use for a line/optical in, or a mic in, the cheapest you will find will probably be the NH-600D. I picked one up recently on eBay for about $30 USD. Works great as a player. Only downside about it being a 1st gen is that your mp3's will have to be converted to Atrac prior to transferring. I've seen these for sale brand new for around $60 a few places online. Personally I would recommend a unit with at least a line-in. That way you are not limited to recording only from a computer. But again, if you will only be transferring from a computer, the NH600D should fit your needs. You can also use it as a removeable disk on your computer. The NH600D also only runs from 1 AA battery, and does not have any AC input for power. However it seems to get power from USB while it is connected to computer and transferring. Best advice I can give though... If you can dish out a bit more and get a unit with a line in & mic in, you will be set. And you won't be unhappy. -
I just won one recently on eBay for $30 USD.

The only downside to deleting the optimized files, is that they will have to be re-imported and re-encoded if you need to transfer them to MD again. In SonicStage 3.2, you can click on the "Settings" button in the transfer screen, and go under "Advanced" where you can check the option to "Delete the converted files from the hard disk after transferring", which will (in theory) prevent SonicStage from keeping the optimized files stored on your computer. You may still have to remove the shortcuts to the files from my library, but be sure to keep the option unchecked when it asks if you want to delete the music file from the computer (as I think this refers to the original mp3/wav/etc. file).

I believe the NH600D is the North American model (which lacks the line/optical input), and the NH600 is the European model which has the input. If you are in USA it may be more difficult to find the NH600.

SonicStage 3.2: ATRAC3plus Frequency Analysis
raintheory replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
I think it means, that whether or not Atrac3+ is better than Mp4 is entirely up to you. What do you think sounds better? -
Theres really no way to determine if software that was designed for 98/2000/XP will work at all on Vista. Not until it is available anyway.
-
This is good to know considering I had heard that the AA when attached actually charges the NiMH battery ...

I'm trying to research this a bit for you during my downtime today... How often do you use Windows Update? EDIT - I'm not sure how different it would be, but have you tried downloading the PA Driver (Zip File) from the Downloads section here in the forums and using that instead of the one at the previous link?
-
Do any of your standard CD players have optical out?

Unfortunately you would have to set levels each time you start recording, as the units don't remember the manual settings. You may want to look into this inexpensive trick http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9069 Alternately, you may want to look into getting a battery box for your mics.
-
Does the HiMD appear in your Device Manager at all? Possibly with some sort of exclamation point or question mark? If so, you may want to try uninstalling the unit through the device manager before installing the PA Driver. Also be sure that the unit is disconnected when you install the drivers. Oddly enough it sounds like it's trying to install drivers that weren't designed/tested for XP... Is that possible?

Unfortunately there is no way (at this time) to upload the audio that you copied over from your computer like that. The audio data will not be read by the HiMD player/SonicStage if it has been copied to the disc from your computer in that way, as this would make any copy protection/DRM that has been implemented by SONY obsolete. It may be worth saving that data just in case someone finds a way to decode it down the road. There is some good information regarding uploading in the safest possible manner here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=6330 Welcome to the forums btw
