The MZ-NF810 is a NetMD MiniDisc recorder. It does have a mic-in, so should work fine for recording. You can also download music from PC to NetMD. However, You will not be able to upload via USB to a computer with this model. Only HiMD recorders enable uploading to PC via USB. Your only option with the NetMD would be to record real-time into your soundcard. If you will be doing a good bit of recording, it may be in your best interest to invest in a HiMD model.

Good call. I bet that works.

can't transfer more than 1 album at a time...

I know SonicStage can be funny with other programs open.,.. I think it uses IE for the connect store window anyway, so I doubt that having an IE window open would cause any problems. What OS are you using? -
I have this problem from time to time with my RH10. I think a few people have mentioned it here, I think I remember someone posting that they had even sent their unit in to get it fixed. It can be pretty frustrating... I was going to send my RH10 in for a firmware upgrade to fix the missing letters when titling, I think I'll mention this issue as well to see if they can fix it at the same time.

What version of Sonicstage are you using? Any other programs running while you are transferring? -
Are the recording levels displayed as numbers? ex. "16/30" or just as a little bar like on the 38EL?

I'm not sure how helpful this may be, but SHNTool is a command-line utility that you can use to examine and fix SHN files. I've never used it myself, but may be worth a try. I beleive it comes with a tutorial... Let us know how you make out!

Line-In would probably be the best bet when using the battery box to power the mics. Provided that what you are recording is loud enough. If your 9v was dying that may have been why there was no response from the mics when it was plugged into the line-in initially. Perhaps the 9v dying might have been causing some problems when you went to mic-in as well... Good luck cleaning it up some with Audacity. If you get decent results you should post some in the live recording gallery here.

Awesome! Thanks mrsoul, guess I'll be scouting for one on eBay then.

Hello all, Quick question regarding the RM-MC40ELK Remote... I am thinking of getting this remote to use with my MZ-RH10. Currently I am using the RM-MC38EL remote that came with my MZ-NH900. I usually have the recorder set on REC-PAUSE and manual recording levels (this way I can adjust rec levels on remote and unpause to start recording), however the remote doesnt actually show the recording levels... This isn't a big problem when I am out doing field recordings of quiet sounds, since I can listen on headphones and adjust levels that way, but ideally it would be nice to be able to see the levels on the remote. Does anyome know if the RM-MC40ELK actualy shows the recording levels while the unit is in REC-PAUSE?

Both of my N707's had issues with the screws. I also have 2 friends that had the same thing happen to their units. Weird.
-
Might have better luck if this gets moved to the "Classifieds" section. And yes, it most likely connects via the charging cradle.

Bought a pair of Piezo Contact Microphones on eBay to use for some of my experimental sound projects. Also got a pair of Sound Professionals SP-BMC-3 Binaural Microphones since my old set of microphones is starting die on me.
-
I just purchased one of those kits the other day to repair one of my N707's. The screws that fit seemed just a tad too long, but they definitely work. I guess I could search around for a different brand repair kit that may have a better fitting screw if I really wanted.

Standard MD discs can be used as well as HiMD discs to store data. Standard MD media holds about 1/3 what HiMD media holds. The time required for the HiMD recorder to physically spin the disc and burn the data makes USB 2.0 speeds impossible.
-
I check out http://www.spaceweather.com pretty often. And eBay of course.
-
Yes, you can copy any data files that way, including mp3.. You just can't listen to them along the way. And yes, it does kind of make the DRM pointless, but thats SONY for you.

You can download the service manual in the "downloads" section here in the forums. It shows step by step how to disassemble the unit and such. I'm assuming you will only need to take the back cover off, and not have to mess with the front door assembly.

I would first try formatting the disc using the NH700 itself, and then plugging it into the computer.

The sound quality is surprisingly clean. I think it works much in the same way putting an electric guitar's pickup near a phone receiver does... In other words it won't record anything if you yell at it, unless you're yelling at it through the phone. Here's an excerpt I found online regarding this suction-cup style apparatus... Apparently it may not work as well on newer and/or cordless phones: Aside from the spelling errors I think it explains it pretty well.
-
I can confirm that the suction-cup model needs mic-in... I've had one of those things for years. Never used the other models. MiniDisco has this model available: http://www.minidisco.com/tr-70.html

Not sure if this still works, but heres a link to an easy workaround to that windows validation thing: http://www.boingboing.net/2005/07/28/micro...genuine_ad.html
